Chapter 24 Boss (4)
It seemed like a pretty powerful skill, but the cost seemed a bit too high. It wasn't high, considering its utility, but by considering Jake's regen speed of mana. For the time being, without potions, Jake will only be able to use the skill eight times per hour. While he had ten mana potions that recovered his mana by fifty points due to the missions completed, he doubted that with them, he could even make the skill reach level three.
"The design is pretty simple but cool, don't you think?" Luke asked.
"Since it has only one cutting side, then I will have to adapt myself," Jake said. "You should have warned me of that."
"It is a pretty cool weapon," Lana said. "But I think it is more suited for calm and polite warriors."
"I think you can also use the scabbard to hit the enemies and make some combos," Louise said.
"Hello there, let's fight, and once I defeat you, may I have the pleasure of splitting your head?" Jake asked. "Am I being polite enough?"
Putting jokes aside, Louise was right. The weapon had a scabbard, and since it was probably a part of it, then it wouldn't break easily. Moreover, it would cause blunt damage, and it probably could stun some enemies.
"Before you ask to sell your older sword, I would advise against it for the time being," Luke said. "You can obtain a certain class if you find a certain shield now that you have that breastplate. If that is too troublesome for you, I can keep it for the time being."
"Well… aren't you helpful," Jake frowned.
"Your rudeness knows no bounds?" Lana asked.
"It is fine, it is normal for players to be that suspicious of others," Luke said. "Well, it is up to you. I wouldn't risk fooling you this time for such a cheap weapon when it can become such a valuable customer late."
p
"Very well," Jake said.
"The price of that armor is fifteen thousand coins, so you can always buy it from me if you feel like it," Luke said.
"... Let's get going," Jake said after a long sigh.
"Where are we going today?" Lana asked as they were walking toward the crystal server.
"I want to try cleaning the dungeon of the first map," Jake replied. "It is up to you where you want to go."
"We imagined you would do that, and that is why we bought new items," Lana said. "Now, Louise can use Ice Arrow as well."
"I am sure a skill level one will be…" Jake said and then stopped to think for a second. "I guess this might work…"
"What might work?" Lana asked.
"You will see," Jake said.
Once again, they touched Jake's shoulders when he selected the mission. While he could have accepted the mission to clear the dungeon, he accepted the second since he couldn't risk failure.
Thanks to the fact that they touched his shoulders, Lana and Louise spawned in the same place as him. Before anything, Jake looked for a secluded place and then put his plan into action.
"We can challenge the dungeon later, first and foremost, we need to level the skills that will help us clear the dungeon," Jake explained. "I will train my Fire Resistance by letting the monsters hit me, Lana will level up her Heal by healing me and Louise will train her Ice arrow."
"So, we are going to grind some levels… I suppose this will be very tedious work," Lana said.
"Until when we should do that?" Louise asked.
"I have no idea what the max level of the skills is, but I suppose level ten is probably a good level," Jake said. "Any more than that, it will be hard to attain while fighting slimes."
It didn't take long for some slimes to begin to appear. As usual, Jake's first intention was to unsheathe his sword and dash toward them. However, he stopped at the last moment and let the monsters hit him. Since he didn't increase his mentality and willpower, the attack damaged him quite a bit.
"You can attack them when their numbers become too high, or when Lana healing can't keep up with the damage output," Jake said.
"This is pretty hardcore…" Lana said. "Don't you think it is too much considering that it is just a game?"
"Yeah… that doesn't hurt?" Louise asked, visibly uncomfortable with the scene.
"It is better than wasting time and then failing in the last moment," Jake said. "Don't forget that a game over means that we will have to start from scratch."
"You are right… come to think of it," Louise said. "Since that is the case, wouldn't it be better to store items instead of selling all of them?"
Jake didn't consider that, but it was true. Someone smart and careful would do that, but he wasn't either. He needed all the money he could get to obtain more skills and status.
"You can do that from now on," Jake said.
Jake didn't want to do that for the previous reason and because he needed to force himself to become stronger by knowing that if he failed, he would have to start from the very beginning.
Soon enough, the group understood that Jake could only endure being attacked by three fire slimes at a time since the cooldown of the skill was three seconds. Thanks to that, Lana began to level up her Heal pretty steadily since she only used it when Jake made mistakes. As for Louise, even at level one, her Ice Arrows could kill the fire slimes.
