Chapter 447: 250 Hope
Chapter 447: 250 Hope
In the alternate world of the Ninth-turn Trial, the frontline defense of humankind.
Years sped by in an instant.
Once the human equivalent of a war god was lost, the frontline defense could only be described as hanging by a thread.
In just four and a half years, the frontline had gone through twelve marshals.
Not one of the twelve marshals resigned, all of them without exception died in battle.
In four and a half years, twelve frontline marshals and 870,000 soldiers paid the ultimate price and yet barely managed to hold this line. Most of the human world’s strongest fighters were killed or gravely injured.
Easier said than done though, every month, the frontline still managed to squeeze out some supplies to send to the rear.
For this reason, the frontline was willing to complete shut down the Thunder Network construction which significantly bolstered frontline defense, just to ensure uninterrupted supply of these materials.
This extreme measure caused massive casualties on the frontline multiple times.
Many soldiers on the frontline couldn’t understand this strategy.
Why would the top brass make such a decision?
Whether they understood it not, the supplies would always be dispatched from the frontline on time without any delay. Even if the frontline were to be cut off, the frontline marshal would personally lead the charge to get the supplies out.
At least two of the twelve marshals died this way.
Recently, it has once again become time for the front line to send back supplies.
Unfortunately, this time, the front line is, once again, being besieged by the endless beast tide.
Moreover, this blockade is much more stringent than any previous ones, with the frontline marshal’s multiple attempts to breakthrough served unsuccessful. The supply intended to depart ten days ago was still stuck, which made the frontline marshal anxious.
“What is the current situation?”
Zack Murphy, the frontline marshal who had suffered heavy casualties during the last breakout attempt, had barely a day’s rest before stepping down from the critical injury care, pushed open the door to the strategic meeting room, and walked in.
The moment the frontline marshal walked in, everyone in the strategic meeting room stood up.
Harlan Ainsley, the frontline military advisor, hastily walked over, “Marshal, you’re here, please be careful…your injury…”
Zack Murphy waved his hand, interrupting Harlan Ainsley’s words, “I know my body well, rest won’t help, the more I rest the weaker I feel. While I still have some strength left, we need to plan the next breakout. We’ve already been delayed for ten days, we can’t procrastinate any further, we must send the supplies back! What’s the situation?”
Harlan, frowning, said, “It’s not looking good. Although you managed to create a pathway last time, we failed to get the supplies out and the beast tide shows no signs of receding. It appears to be getting worse.
If we’re not careful, we may be dealing with an extremely large beast tide!”
Hearing this, Zack knits his brows and says, “Then we must ship the supplies out as soon as possible!”
Harlan massaged his temples, “I’ll figure something out!”
Their conversation only served to infuriate the many soldiers in the meeting room!
“Excuse me, gentlemen, if I may interject!”
The most youthful frontline soldier, Christian Hyde, stood up with a blistering rage simmering within him.
All eyes were instantly drawn to Christian, revealing a tall, young figure and a countenance filled with rage.
“Gentlemen, I find myself perplexed. Why are you so fixated on these supplies?
Shouldn’t the imminent massive beast tide beyond the frontline be our main concern right now?
Once the massive beast tide takes shape, we could easily face the danger of catastrophic collapse if we aren’t careful. Once our frontline collapses, all of humanity will be in danger of extinction.
At this clinging-on-for-dear-life moment, why are you two more concerned about the supplies? Isn’t that absurd?
Are these supplies really so crucial that they must be sent back at any cost?
These questions reflect Christian’s anger, his confusion, but also the confusion of all the frontline soldiers. They don’t understand why top brass insists on sending the supplies back regardless of the cost, even when it could alter the destiny of the entire frontline.
As Christian asked this question, all eyes were cast upon Zack and Harlan.
They remained silent, but their eyes spoke volumes.
Zack and Harlan exchanged glances, discerning a need for resolution from the gazes of these soldiers.
Zack looked at Harlan: “Shall we tell them?”
Harlan nodded: “We might as well, it’s about time!
Besides, we don’t have much of a choice not to!”
With Harlan’s permission, Zack turned to face Christian, took a deep breath and said, “I can tell you that those supplies are indeed that important!
They’re even more important than you could imagine.
Even if it means sacrificing myself or the destruction of the entire frontline, those supplies must be sent back!
Because whether or not these supplies get sent back, it will determine the future of mankind!”
“They would determine the future of mankind? They’re nothing more than some Thunder attribute materials. How do they determine the future of mankind…”
“Because of this!”
Harlan quietly activated the Strategic Holographic Sandbox behind him.
This time, instead of a holograph of the frontline defense, a four-dimensional attribute board with fluctuating attributes appeared on the sandbox.
