Chapter 78 - To bake more bread

Chapter 78: To bake more bread

<<Second Disciple: Lee Yuri>>

The word didn’t mean any harm to Dohyuk. Yuri raised her face to look at Dohyuk. Her face was crushed, and her beauty was gone. As she opened her mouth, a broken voice came through the destroyed teeth.

“...ngh... ha...”

“I don’t know what you are trying to say.”

He was curious about what she was trying to say, but there was no time to waste. Dohyuk kicked up a small stone and grabbed it, then threw it at Yuri. It cleanly hit Yuri’s head and Yuri fell unconscious and dropped back down.

“Yoo Giwon!”

Giwon then moved from the distance along with the Bermurans. The eight men were shocked to see Giwon.

“It’s him!”

Giwon was a famous figure next to the Tyrant himself in the south. That man was now kneeling in front of Dohyuk when they knew what those eight men had to do. The message window then appeared in front of Dohyuk.

...

Giwon then asked Dohyuk, “Should I take care of them?”

Dohyuk nodded and Giwon turned to them.

“You all must know what I do to the likes of you. I will give you thirty seconds.”

All of them began to move. They took out a small dagger and began cutting their own arms and legs.

It was a sign of submission, to render oneself incapable of fighting, rather than being destroyed by the enemy. Giwon then checked each of them. They all spaced themselves out, knelt, and placed their heads on the ground. The Bermurans seemed to understand what was going on as they walked up to them and tied all of them with rope. The rope was then connected to the livestock that the Bermurans brought which then began dragging them along the ground.

“But...”

Giwon spoke as he tied the 9th. It was Yuri.

“Are you taking her alive?”

Dohyuk nodded. “We’ll send them first.”

After the Bermurans walked back toward the city, Dohyuk explained what had happened. Giwon was surprised.

“...Disciple. Like I said, this ‘Disciple’ is different from what I know.”

Disciple. In most cases, it was called a ‘Champion’ where a god would choose one follower to wield his power. Yet, Giwon and Yuri... putting aside all the other differences, there were two of them. Dohyuk and Giwon knew only one thing.

“When you first became my disciple, you said you felt thankfulness toward me.”

“Yes, that is correct.” Giwon confirmed it. The feeling he felt when Dohyuk helped him keep the desire from the fight was shown in the rating.

Dohyuk then placed his hand on Yuri. Just like Giwon, a message popped up.

-Faith: 89/100

“It’s only 4 off from yours.”

“Then there are only two reasons. Either my loyalty isn’t that great or...”

“Or this woman was so pleased by the fact that she got beaten up by me and thus acquired a new feeling.”

“I would say that’s very possible,” Giwon said as he frowned at Yuri. They were now close to the city. Heeyun jumped down from the city wall and ran toward them.

“Dohyuk!”

She looked at Dohyuk, then toward the Bermurans and Giwon, and then the other tied up men.

“Uh... a train play?”

“Maybe.” Dohyuk smiled and Giwon spoke from his side.

“Oh, so she is ‘the’ administrator. Nice to meet you.”

“...”

Giwon offered a handshake and Heeyun flinched.

“He is different from us, but we can trust him.”

“Uh- okay. Nice to meet you too,” Heeyun answered as she shook hands with Giwon.

“This is more than what I expected,” Giwon admitted as he looked beyond the city gate.

“But I wouldn’t be allowed to enter.”

Without answering, Dohyuk laid his hand on Heeyun’s shoulder.

<<Changing the Law>>

The city repelled all ‘corrupt’ people, but it was easy to make changes for special cases.

“Yoo Giwon can enter the city.”

<<Changing the 1st law>>

Dohyuk frowned. He had enough, but it was very costly. Before Dohyuk could finish, Giwon waved his hands.

“Oh, I don’t need to go in right now. I have to leave soon.”

“Oh.”

There was the bracelet they earned at Yabadop’s region. The Tyrant forced Giwon to return it within a day.

“I have some time left, but it wouldn’t be bad to give it to him early.”

Giwon didn’t mention it, but Dohyuk knew. Giwon would die to keep his family save.

“If I don’t return in five days, please use Divine Intervention.”

Dohyuk nodded, “Be careful.”

“...It’s been a while since I’ve been cared for by someone else other than my family.”

Giwon smiled and walked away.

“He’s weird,” Heeyun commented.

“How was it while I was gone?”

“It wasn’t too long since you were gone. I mean, there something came up but you solved it already.”

Heeyun spoke as she glanced at the Bermurans and the tied people.

“...There’s something now.”

Dohyuk nodded.

...

“Heeyun?” Dohyuk asked as he heard something coming from behind.

“Eek! How did you know?”

Dohyuk had the ability to guess who was approaching by the distinct footsteps. It wasn’t perfect, but he knew the people he spent some time with when they approached.

“Aren’t you tired? You’ve been awake for two days already. There are others who can replace you.”

“It’s okay,” Dohyuk answered.

“Is that it? The one in that plastic bag.”

“Oh, yeah it is.”

“I can smell it.”

Heeyun gave the plastic bag to Dohyuk. There was warm ‘bread’ inside.

“Did you try it already?”

“No. I brought it so we can have it for lunch.”

Dohyuk took one out from the bag. It was a bit smaller than his palm. Dohyuk cut it in half with his hand as he glanced down the city wall. There were Bermuran tents 30 meters in the distance, and between the wall and the tents were the fields that the Bermurans helped people grow crops on.

Piyam.

It was the plant that produced pumpkin-like fruit. It had steel-like covering with white powder inside. After combining it with the water, it was then made to bake the bread that Dohyuk was eating. It wasn’t as good as he expected. After drinking some water, he was able to eat half of what he was chewing.

“It’s enough.”

Heeyun nodded. Although it was only bread that they could get their hands on, it was enough.

“But the Bermurans weren’t too happy with it.”

“Why?”

“I guess their crops are more valuable. It takes a month to harvest and there were less fruits than usual.”

Heeyun couldn’t continue as people shouted in joy from below. People were rejoicing in front of the oven that baked the bread from below.

“...People were worried.”

Heeyun spoke again.

“I mean, we had more people to feed... and the food storage was getting low.”

If Dohyuk couldn’t find the answer to the food, the people would’ve turned unruly by now.

<<Faith increased>>

-Faith: 681339

The amount increased in a large amount at once.

“I mean... I’m sure everyone is thinking that maybe we can live like how we did ‘before’, if this continues. It won’t be the same, but it may be similar.”

“...Yeah,” Dohyuk answered. He was looked toward the grassland, a giant piece of land with no fields or buildings.

‘If I can’t wipe out all threats outside, we won’t be able to utilize the land.’

Even now, he felt eyes from the distance, near the ashes. That’s why he made the Bermurans set up their tents and fields close to the city wall to make it easy to defend.

“Heeyun, can you take my place?”

“Of course,” Heeyun answered and Dohyuk closed his eyes. The five days that Giwon spoke of had passed. It was time to move.

<<Used 31000 faith to use Divine Power>>

<<Divine Power: Divine Intervention>>

Dohyuk then began receiving information from Giwon.

“...!”
