Transmigration of the Famous Cyber Star

Chapter 66: Buying the Copyrights

Coco had just finished her third live steam in Shanghai when her agent received a call from Xue Yunfei. The group was about to leave Shanghai.

When the person on the other side of the phone call identified himself, Coco’s agent was so shocked he thought he misheard.

Xue Yunfei was a famous music producer. He was young and talented, and he had been writing songs ever since he was eighteen. In the past ten years, he had participated in the creation and production of more than 100 popular songs. Every one of them was a classic, and the singers related to those songs all became stars. Some TV series and movies originally didn’t have a good plot, but they still went popular because their theme song was composed by Xue Yunfei.

The company that Coco’s agent worked for was a small album company, under which there were some cyber singers and unknown third-tier singers. All of their reputations were not even worth mentioning. The company mainly relied on live-streams and bar performances to operate and make money. They only produced albums for particularly good singers, like Coco, who could write lyrics, compose, and sing. After all, nobody would buy an album from an unfamous singer, so the company would only lose more money; plus, it cost them extra time and labor.

Coco was now the pillar of their company, a cornucopia in the eyes of the boss, but even so, they never expected Coco to cooperate with an official top-tier musician.

The agent hurried to knock on the door of Coco’s room.

“The door is unlocked.”

“We will not be leaving today,” the agent said as he pushed open the door.

Coco’s luggage was all packed, and two and a half tall suitcases were standing at her feet. Perplexed, she asked, “The boss has assigned me a new job again? I thought we agreed that from tomorrow on, I will be on holiday for the Spring Festival?

The agent was very excited, “No, no, this has nothing to do with your boss, but it has everything to do with your future. Xue Yunfei just called me and asked you to meet him tomorrow. You can take your vacation any day, and you can take it as long as you want. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity; it is everything you could have ever wanted.”

“Xue Yunfei?” Coco repeated the name quietly to herself, then suddenly remembered, and said in surprise, “Isn’t Xue Yunfei the famous top tier music producer?”

“Yes,” Xiao Zhu, the agent, said excitedly, “He took the initiative to find you to cooperate. I have been in this industry for many years, and I have never seen people like him act so humbly. Coco, you had hit the jackpot.”

Coco was stunned. It was something she dared not to even think about, cooperating with a big music producer like Xue Yunfei. At the same time, she also wondered how did such a famous man like Xue Yunfei know about her?

The agent quickly notified his company of the good news, and the boss told Coco that no matter what Xue Yunfei requested, agree!

With Xue Feiyun as her lead, Coco’s future would be much smoother.

The boss exclaimed how talented and diligent ones would always be discovered one day, and Coco’s day was here.

On the next day, Xue Yunfei had a meeting with Coco and her agent. The trio discussed revising “Thinking About You.” No matter what Xue Yunfei demanded, Coco always nodded and answered with a “Yes.” Even if her boss didn’t remind her beforehand, she still wouldn’t have dared to demand anything from Xue Yunfei.

Of course, Xue Yunfei’s requirements weren’t harsh:

One, Coco had to write out the lyrics for “Thinking About Her” within a week, and Ye Zian and Xue Yunfei will proofread it. Number two, the main rhythm will not change, but Xue Yunfei will rearrange the song. Number three, Coco owns “Thinking About You”, but Galaxy Films owns “Thinking About Her.” Coco had no right to disagree with whatever Galaxy Films decided to do with “Thinking About Her” in the future. Number four, Coco had to participate in the recording of “The Sound of the Wind.” The copyrights of “The Sound of the Wind” will remain with Galaxy Films. Number five, everything is confidential. Before Ye Zian and Xue Yunfei gave permission, she could not reveal any information about the movie or the songs.

That same day, Coco and Xue Yunfei managed to sign the copyright contract.

After the contract was signed, Xue Yunfei handed the script of “The Sound of the Wind” to Coco, “Read over the script so you can get familiar with the plot. Remember, the lyrics of ‘Thinking About Her’ must be centered around the plot.”

“Okay, okay,” Coco immediately answered.

She felt a bit dizzy from all of this luck that went her way. She only gained a bit of reality when she had the solid script in her hands, “Mentor Xue, can I…”

“Ah, why do you and Liu Man both refer to me as a teacher or a mentor?! Stop calling me a teacher!”

“Liu Man?”

Xue Yunfei saw Coco’s confused expression. He was even more bewildered.

“You don’t know who Liu Man is?”

“Who’s Liu Man?” Coco had never heard of this name before.

Xue Yunfei felt strange, “Aren’t you two friends? You were recorded in the same video, and you’ve gone on a live-stream together. She has your WeChat and your phone number, and now you tell me you have no idea who she is? Are you two kidding me?”

Coco instantly realized whom Liu Man was after hearing what Xue Yunfei said. Liu Man was her Hanfu Goddess.

She laughed, “She is my friend, I just didn’t know what her name is.”

Nowadays, people made friends online, and everyone used a nickname or an alias. If two were happily chatting with each other, it was strange to suddenly ask someone what their real name was. Coco only had Liu Man’s WeChat, and her nickname was ‘MAN.’ Coco thought Liu Man meant ‘men’ in English, and she even thought this alias was cool.

Coco’s WeChat name was Cocoa Beans; it was an alias. Even the name, ‘Coco’, was fake. Her real name was Zhu Co, but ever since she started publishing songs online, she rarely used her real name. Now, except for her family, nobody would call her Zhu Co.

“You young people nowadays… I’m impressed,” Xue Yunfei was speechless, “Liu Man was the one who recommended you to me. She’s the one you should say thanks to.”

Coco froze, but Xue Yunfei continued,

“Since you don’t know Liu Man, I will kindly introduce you to her. It’s winter break for her, and her part-time job is to act as an extra in ‘The Sound of the Wind.’ She’s a piano major and hasn’t been in the entertainment circle before. I don’t know if she will try developing her career this way after the movie gets published.”

No wonder she came to Shanghai, Coco thought. She now confirmed her thought on Liu Man being a gift from God. Ever since she met Liu Man, her entire life had been heading to success.

When she met Liu Man at the music-themed restaurant, her song, ‘Thinking About You’, went on fire even before it got published. She and her company both earned lots of profit.

When she met Liu Man at the pedestrian mall live-stream, Coco’s Wei Bo, Tiktok, and live-stream platform all gained two times their original fan count. She earned three hundred thousand RMB just from that one night of live-stream.

And now, she even received Xue Yunfei’s approval because of Liu Man, paving her path to success in the music society.

Coco, from deep in her heart, appreciated Liu Man and confirmed Liu Man as her great friend.
