Chapter 1: Wearing a book
Chapter 1
Ji Nian suddenly felt sore all over her body. She tried to open her eyes but couldn't no matter how hard she tried. She felt her strength was slipping away steadily. Unwilling to give up, she struggled again. Her fingers seemed to move a little bit.
Could it be sleep paralysis? Ji Nian thought clearly in her mind. Then a sudden dizzy spell came over her.
She opened her eyes with difficulty. What came into view was a shower head. The surroundings were luxuriously decorated. She looked down puzzled at where she was - a bathtub, filled with red water.
The pain from her wrist made her shudder involuntarily. She turned her head and saw a deep gash on her wrist. She cried out in fright with a hoarse voice.
At this moment Ji Nian felt she was having a nightmare, but the constant pain from her body kept stimulating her to stay awake. There was fear in her eyes. Where was this? Wasn't she sleeping at home?
The fear in her heart made her struggle to get up with difficulty. She was completely naked now. Stumbling, she staggered out of the bathtub. Dizzy and nauseous, she slipped and fell hard on the floor. She gave a muffled grunt, even more dizzy now.
With great effort she got up, leaning against the bathroom wall and slowly walked forward. Passing by the mirror, she froze.
Who was this? She stared wide-eyed in disbelief. In the mirror was a strange woman, deathly pale, soaking wet hair, naked body, vacant eyes.
Ji Nian was so frightened she fell to the floor again. The woman in the mirror also fell. Trembling, she reached out and touched the mirror. She discovered that the woman in the mirror was herself!
"No, no, no, this is a dream," Ji Nian closed her eyes, unwilling to believe it. Then she thought this must be sleep paralysis. Mumbling to herself, "Evil spirits begone! Evil spirits begone! Prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony..."
After the chant, Ji Nian opened her eyes again. The scene before her was unchanged. The woman was still this stranger. The bathroom was still this bathroom. She was bewildered.
But the blood from her wrist kept flowing. She became dizzy and nauseous again. With strong willpower she struggled to her feet, pushed open the bathroom door and walked out.
The house was huge. As Ji Nian walked, looking at everything before her eyes, she could tell it was expensively decorated with a minimalist European style. The sofas and furniture in the living room looked extremely expensive.
Yet the whole room was in complete disarray, with clothes scattered everywhere, broken bottles on the floor, and blood stains trailing along the floor.
She had no time to think anymore. Her eyesight started to blur, the scene before her eyes growing indistinct. A phone ring made her jump again. Stumbling, she made her way to the phone and with difficulty brought it to her ear.
"Ji Xiaonian!" an angry roar came from the phone. "Are you home?! Do you know we're finished?!"
Hearing the voice over the phone, Ji Nian's consciousness gradually faded. Before passing out, she struggled to ask for help, "Save me..."
The person on the other end was stunned, hearing this powerless reply. With a loud bang, no more sound came. She anxiously called out, "Ji Xiaonian! What are you doing?! Where are you?!"
The phone on the other end didn't hang up, and no sound came. She grew uneasy, hurriedly grabbed her bag and rushed out the door.
After 30 minutes, He Yi arrived in a panic, took out her key card and opened the door. The scene before her made her gasp.
A naked woman was lying on the floor next to the sofa. Around her were the broken shards of a knocked over lamp. Her mobile phone next to her wrist was covered in bloodstains. The beige carpet was speckled with red.
He Yi screamed and rushed over, lifting up the woman. Her hands shaking, she dialed 120 for an ambulance.
"Ji Xiaonian, have you gone mad?!" He Yi's eyes were red, glistening with tears.
Hospital —
Ji Nian slowly woke up and opened her eyes. What came into view was white, and the IV drip hanging on the stand. Her first thought was that she had been saved.
Turning her head, she saw a teary-eyed woman staring at her. Ji Nian was startled.
"You're crazy!" The woman scolded loudly, then burst into loud sobs, saying, "You nearly scared me to death!"
Ji Nian moved her lips, not knowing what to say. Who was this person? Was she the one who sent her to the hospital? But Ji Nian didn't recognize this stranger at all.
"I..." Ji Nian's hoarse voice.
"What I! Even if you were kicked out of the company, even if your reputation is ruined, you can't commit suicide!" He Yi looked at the woman, eyes red, tone angry.
"Who are you?" Ji Nian asked.
He Yi was stunned. She touched Ji Nian's head, shocked, "Slitting your wrists could damage your brain?"
Ji Nian looked confused, telling her this was such a realistic dream.
"Ji Xiaonian, I don't have time for your jokes!" He Yi had a serious expression. "I told you before not to be lovesick, lovesick! And now look, not only is your money gone, you nearly died!"
"Who are you..." Ji Nian asked in bewilderment again.
"I'm He Yi!" He Yi gritted her teeth in reply.
"He Yi?" The name sounded familiar. Ji Nian thought for a moment, then remembered she had called herself Ji Xiaonian. Her expression froze as she stared wide-eyed at the woman before her.
"You're called He Yi!" Ji Nian exclaimed loudly, then pointed at herself uncertainly, "I'm called Ji Xiaonian?"
He Yi looked at her as if she was an idiot, her face dark, saying, "I don't have time for your jokes!"
Ji Nian now felt she had been struck by lightning, lying in bed doubting life itself. She had transmigrated into a book, a novel she had been reading before bed called "The CEO's Strong Pampering of His Sweetheart."
The sweetheart was the female protagonist Shen Shuyao, and He Yi was her future agent. But this female protagonist would become a top actress with numerous honors in the future.
Ji Xiaonian was the first celebrity He Yi managed, or rather, the failed product she created. An occasional mention in the novel, a woman who didn't succeed and went cold even before becoming famous, committing suicide over a male celebrity...
She didn't know who this male celebrity was exactly, because in the novel she was just an extra with no details written about her. Everyone was focused on the storyline between the female protagonist and the CEO.
"Sigh." He Yi looked at the woman and sighed.
Ji Nian was still lost in thought and looked at her blankly.
"Let's go back and clean up the house today. Sell off whatever luxuries you have that can be sold." He Yi said dejectedly.
"Why?" Ji Nian asked.
He Yi glared at her. "Your affair with Cheng Liran was exposed! And Cheng Liran accused you of harassment. The company terminated your contract. You were broke to begin with, and with these damages added up, it's 10 million!"
Ji Nian was confused. She had woken up with a different body, and now she had also inherited a huge debt of 10 million.
"Cheng Liran," she murmured blankly. In the novel he was a top idol, excellent at singing, dancing, everything. Ji Xiaonian actually had a history with Cheng Liran?
