Chapter 412 - Unlocked a New Ability
Chapter 412: Unlocked a New Ability
Tan Mo knew that she did not hear things.
Yet, she could not make out the disembodied voice’s direction.
Could it be that she was having auditory hallucinations due to her excessive nervousness?
Wei Zhiqian covered the seeds with soil and buried them.
Next, he watered them with the watering can. He stopped after taking a cue from Tan Mo.
There was a flowerbed next to him.
His fingers would often run through the flowers’ leaves accidentally.
At that, a voice could be heard saying, “Please touch me. I want more.”
“Here! Me too!” another voice echoed.
Surprised, Tan Mo turned in the voices’ direction.
This time, however, she was confident that her mind was not playing tricks on her.
After taking a second glance, the flowers next to his hand could be seen rippling gently.
If one did not examine carefully, it could be easily mistaken as the aftereffect of the light breeze.
Upon her observation, Tan Mo noticed that the remaining flowers were at a standstill.
Only the ones near his hands were moving.
If the wind caused it, they would sway in a single direction.
But those flowers revolved around his hand and inclined toward it.
At the sight of it, Tan Mo’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Had she unlocked a new ability again?
If so, she had to look for an opportunity to test her newfound power after that.
While she was lost in thought, Butler Zhu came up to them and said, “Young Master, Momo. It’s time for lunch.”
Wei Zhiqian and Tan Mo got up in a synchronized manner. After which, the latter grabbed the former’s jacket to dust it off.
After Wei Zhiqian moved forward, Tan Mo took a few steps backward and squatted down.
Right then, she caught the flowers teetering back and forth.
Simultaneously, she heard them calling, “Don’t go!”
“Hey handsome, when will you be back again?”
“Uncle will not come here anymore, so just give it up,” Tan Mo whispered.
Following that, they could be heard gasping in shock.
They then began mumbling among themselves.
“Can she hear us?”
“For real?”
“Were you the ones who expressed your desire to slide down his collarbone or said something about pleading him to touch you?” Tan Mo muttered, gritting her teeth. “If so, then yes, I can hear you. Clearly.”
Rustle!
Whisper!
“Uh-oh! She can understand us!”
Tan Mo snorted inwardly. It went without saying since the little snow fairy.
Still, unlocking the ability to communicate with plants out of the blue was beyond her expectations.
During her previous incarnation as the little snow fairy, she could understand the utterance of plants of all kinds.
Back then, she thought it was only natural to comprehend the other plants’ articulation since she was a sentient being born out from a snow lotus.
She certainly never thought of being able to understand the words of plants again after she reincarnated into the current world as a human.
Tan Mo was sure that she could not hear the plants at all before that day.
Yet, for reasons unknown, she could pick up their voices again.
“Duh! I can hear you loud and clear,” Tan Mo replied to the flowers to let them know that it was not a fluke.
Upon hearing that, the flowers trembled in fear.
“Momo?” Wei Zhiqian turned back and called out to Tan Mo from a distance. “What are you doing over there?”
“Nothing. I’m coming,” Tan Mo responded. With that, she turned to the flowers and warned with a soft voice, “Don’t you ever try to get your claws into him. Consider yourself warned.
“He’s mine,” she murmured with an even softer voice, putting on a brave front at his absence while clenching her teeth after contemplating.
Following that, she stood up and caught up to Wei Zhiqian.
Tan Mo was frozen to the spot as she stood beside Wei Zhiqian.
It completely slipped her mind earlier, but she recalled it again. Wei Zhiqian had a hearing so good that it could be compared to the superpower called clairaudience.
Even if Tan Mo spoke with the softest voice she could produce, Wei Zhiqian could still hear her if he wished to.
Did he hear me just now?
Nevertheless, upon seeing Wei Zhiqian’s usual expression, she surmised that he did not hear her earlier.
“What were you doing earlier?” Wei Zhiqian asked in confusion.
He had not heard what Tan Mo said.
Unless it were necessary, he would activate his ability to listen to Tan Mo only occasionally.
After all, it would be an invasion of her privacy if he did that.
“Nothing much. It just occurred to me that I only spent time watching you plant the flower seeds but disregarded the growth of the other flowers.” Tan Mo made up a random excuse. “So, I went and checked them out.”
Wei Zhiqian nodded. Although he felt that her facial expression was somewhat abnormal, he did not think much about it.
Knowing her little secret was safe, Tan Mo heaved a sigh of relief secretly. She followed Wei Zhiqian and Butler Zhu to the dining area.
When they arrived, Aunt Zhang was placing the dishes on the dining table.
Tan Mo perched on her usual seat, which was right beside Wei Zhiqian’s.
Before she could speak with Old Madam Wei, she noticed the latter was staring at Wei Zhiqian with an odd expression.
“Zhiqian,” Old Madam Wei said.
Wei Zhiqian turned to look at his grandmother.
“How were your blind dates so far?” Old Madam Wei asked.
“They have been unremarkable.” Wei Zhiqian seized the chance to express his opinion. “Initially, I thought blind dates could be an alternative way to look for a suitable partner for myself. Besides, it could be regarded as fate bringing us together if I did find one.
“However, there was not even a single candidate who gave me a good first impression after so many attempts,” Wei Zhiqian explained. “Some of them had conflicts with my personality and aura. As for the rest, they made poor first impressions with me.
“I’d never gone on a blind date back then, so I just thought that I should at least give it a try.” Wei Zhiqian heaved a deep sigh and continued, “I’ve now realized that this isn’t working.
“Granny, we should just forget about blind dates altogether. After trying, I finally know that it isn’t suitable for me,” Wei Zhiqian added.
Tan Mo’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing that.
Did he plan to stop going on blind dates?
She had the recollection of asking Wei Zhiqian if he would go on a blind date the night before, but he said no.
Did he mean to imply that he would stop going entirely?
Tan Mo felt as if there was a weight off her mind. She was instantly on cloud nine.
Even though she tried her best to hold back a burst of laughter, bliss was written all over her face.
Nonetheless, Wei Zhiqian could not see the look on her face as he was sitting beside her.
With their minds occupied with thoughts and questions, the elders paid her no heed.
“Zhiqian, there is no outsider here right now,” Old Madam Wei uttered.
To them, Tan Mo was not an outsider.
“Be honest with me. Do you… Do you like women?” Old Madam Wei questioned.
At that moment, Tan Mo was sipping soup.
She had the habit of drinking some soup to warm her stomach before her meal.
After hearing Old Madam Wei’s question, Tan Mo near spewed the soup out of her mouth.
Fortunately, she could hold it back. Still, it was enough to make her choke on a mouthful of soup.
At once, she put the spoon down and started coughing non-stop. Hence, she could not continue to drink the soup. Naturally, she did not dare to do so anymore.
Tan Mo cupped her mouth with her hand, but the coughs went on perpetually, so much so that tears began coursing down her face.
To avoid having bad table manners, she held in the coughs and spluttered, “Please… Please excuse me for a while.”
“It’s okay. We’re family,” Old Mister Wei commented.
Meanwhile, Wei Zhiqian hit Tan Mo’s back gently.
Aunt Zhang passed Tan Mo a glass of water.
After Tan Mo felt a little better and was no longer coughing forcefully, she gulped down a few mouthfuls of water. At last, her throat felt more comfortable.
