Chapter 399 - Jealous
Chapter 399: Jealous
“I think I should be consistent with how I refer to my uncle and you based on seniority.” By just looking at them, Tan Mo could tell that they were on a blind date.
It would be inappropriate for her to address Wei Zhiqian as her uncle, but Wen Nuanxin as her sister.
Tan Mo had a pretty good impression of Wen Nuanxin.
She did not give off the same vibe as Qin Murong.
Back when he’d gone out with Qin Murong, Tan Mo had purposely referred to Wei Zhiqian as Uncle while calling Qin Murong Sister.
She had done it to create a gap between them in terms of seniority specifically in order to irk Qin Murong.
But Wen Nuanxin seemed to have a good personality and seemed a humorous person. She had broken the ice quickly.
So there was no reason for Tan Mo to pick on her.
Unbeknownst to Tan Mo, Wen Nuanxin had already given up on Wei Zhiqian.
It would take an overwhelming effort to make a homosexual fall in love with a woman. So Wen Nuanxin would rather look for someone who was into women.
“I don’t think that we should be lumped together. Otherwise, you’ll make me sound old,” Wen Nuanxin remarked with a smile. “Are you two…having a date?”
Upon saying that, Wen Nuanxin took a stealthy glance at Wei Zhiqian’s reaction.
Just as she had expected, his gaze darkened, and his expression turned gloomy.
“No, it’s not like that,” Tan Mo immediately explained. “We’re still waiting for another two of our friends who are stuck in traffic.”
“How long will it take them to arrive? If they won’t be here any time soon, why don’t we have dinner together?” Wen Nuanxin suggested, looking pleased. “The more, the merrier. Besides, we can order more dishes too.”
“Nah. It’s fine. Don’t worry about us.” Tan Mo thought to herself, I’m not an unobservant person.
I won’t be a third wheel for two people who are on a blind date.
Upon hearing that, upperclassman Cheng heaved a sigh of relief.
“Let’s eat together,” Wei Zhiqian insisted. “Or else, people may mistake you as a couple who are having a date.”
“Mr. Wei. Aren’t you having a date with Ms. Wen?” Upperclassman Cheng could somehow pick up on the situation from the vibe. “Wouldn’t we be in the way of your date?”
“Not at all!” Wen Nuanxin responded instantly.
“There weren’t many common topics between us, anyway. So the two of us felt bored sitting together. Besides, the atmosphere was rather awkward with just the two of us.” Wen Nuanxin remarked in an unrestrained manner. She could not care less about keeping up Wei Zhiqian’s appearances.
Why would a person who would engage in a sham marriage care about keeping up his good image?
After Wen Nuanxin spoke, she pulled Tan Mo’s hand and walked back to her table without giving anyone a chance to decline.
Noticing that, one of the servers came up to them to ask about their situation. Then Wen Nuanxin replied, “We’re acquaintances. Since we bumped into each other, we might as well sit together. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
“No worries. Please go ahead.” The server smiled and placed new silverware for Tan Mo and upperclassman Cheng.
Wen Nuanxin pulled Tan Mo to sit beside her.
Since Wei Zhiqian was sitting opposite Wen Nuanxin, upperclassman Cheng reluctantly sat down beside him.
At that, upperclassman Cheng was overwhelmed with tremendous pressure, to the point of feeling breathless.
How did a proper dinner date end up with this peculiar development?
Initially, he had felt blissful and thrilled, as he was finally going to enjoy dinner with Tan Mo alone.
He had even planned to impress her with his good points that night.
But who would have thought that he would run into Wei Zhiqian here?
Furthermore, Wei Zhiqian would not get back to his blind date after encountering upperclassman Cheng.
He’d even gone so far as to invite them to join him at his table.
So upperclassman Cheng felt dismayed, seeing that his precious opportunity to go on a date with Tan Mo had been ruined for no apparent reason.
“Have you flipped through the menu already? What do you want to order?” Wen Nuanxin questioned Tan Mo as she smiled.
“I know her favorite food. Let me order for her.” With that, Wei Zhiqian beckoned at a server and ordered several dishes that Tan Mo loved.
“Upperclassman Cheng, what do you feel like eating?” Tan Mo asked.
At that, Wei Zhiqian’s already sullen expression got worse.
He then shot upperclassman Cheng a dark look. His glare was full of disdain.
Upperclassman Cheng was stunned at the sight of it.
“All those dishes that Mr. Wei ordered for you are the same ones I wanted to try,” upperclassman Cheng turned to Tan Mo and said.
“All right then. If there’s anything else you feel like eating, just go ahead and order it.” Tan Mo was worried that upperclassman Cheng might be hesitant, so she added, “Don’t be shy.”
After hearing that, Wei Zhiqian gulped down a mouthful of water to hide his exasperation.
Did she just spend my money on an outsider?
Then Tan Mo said to the server nearby, “I’d like to have a Stir-fry Okra.”
“Okay,” the server answered as he noted the order.
“I thought you didn’t like okra?” Wei Zhiqian asked. “Didn’t you always hate its slimy texture?”
“Uncle, you haven’t seen me for at least three weeks now. So how can you be sure whether I still hate it or not?” The little snow fairy instantly became a devil’s advocate. “Too bad, I like to eat it now.”
Having been ignored for three weeks, she had changed a lot during that time.
At that moment, an epiphany struck Wei Zhiqian! Tan Mo was mad at him.
He deserved to be the recipient of her anger, he must say.
After all, he hadn’t visited Tan Mo at all during the past three weeks.
At first, she’d thought that she could visit him instead since he was busy and didn’t have time to come and see her
Yet, she was informed that he was absent every time she went to Wei Manor or Wei Mansion.
If the truth were told, Wei Zhiqian was indeed not around as he had been going on blind dates, although he had intended to avoid Tan Mo as well.
After many attempts, Tan Mo finally understood that he did not want to see her. So she decided to stop looking for him altogether.
She did not know what had gotten into Wei Zhiqian.
But upon seeing him in front of her, Tan Mo realized that she missed him a lot, though it was a fact that she was vexed with him.
“I’ll remember it,” Wei Zhiqian noted.
Tan Mo immediately peered at Wei Zhiqian, who sat diagonally across her, from the corners of her eyes.
What was he going to remember?
Was he going to remember that she loved to eat okra or that he should stop avoiding her?
If it was the former…
She still hated eating it.
In a short while, dishes began to be served to their table in intervals.
Upperclassman Cheng said to her attentively, “I didn’t know that you liked to eat okra. Dig in before it’s cold.”
Tan Mo didn’t say anything as she hated the dish.
“Don’t tell me you know her meal preferences?” Wei Zhiqian snorted.
Not to be outdone, upperclassman Cheng answered, “Of course I do. I did my research before coming. I’ve asked Yeqing, Muye, and even Tan Mo’s roommates about it.”
He really had gone out of his way to get to know more about Tan Mo.
Needless to say, she was oblivious of the things he had done for her behind her back.
Even though she had no feelings for upperclassman Cheng, she was moved by his sincerity.
He had never once told her that he was pursuing her, but she could more or less pick up on it.
She would find an excuse to reject him every time he asked her out.
Upperclassman Cheng too did not cling to her: he was a man with good manners.
WHAM!
Wei Zhiqian slammed down his water glass on the table.
At that, Wen Nuanxin’s eyes widened in excitement.
He’s jealous!
OMG! He’s green with envy!
She realized that upperclassman Cheng had a crush on Tan Mo.
He was heterosexual.
But Wei Zhiqian had been trying his best to make upperclassman Cheng be attracted to him to no avail..
Now, Wei Zhiqian was jealous of Tan Mo because upperclassman Cheng seemed to try to fawn on her constantly.
He felt envious of upperclassman Cheng’s attitude toward Tan Mo.
And he was upset that his niece had a date with upperclassman Cheng.
That must be how the story played out.
“He investigated you in secret. This behavior is hideous.” Wei Zhiqian turned to stare at Tan Mo in bewilderment. “Would you like to keep a person like that near you? Someone who would ask around about you secretly? Just think about it for a moment. Isn’t that scary?
“Now, he still limits his questions within the boundaries of your likes and preferences. Can you guarantee that he won’t ever probe into your privacy and secrets?” Wei Zhiqian chided her in a deep voice. “Are you not afraid even after knowing that there is a man like this around you?”
