Chapter 307 - I Like Uncle More

Chapter 307: I Like Uncle More

“Of course I remember!” Tan Mo smiled. “It’s May 20. It’s an amazing date.”

Ming Yeqing had already celebrated his 18th birthday as he was a little older than Tan Mo and Qin Muye.

However, his birthday wasn’t that far away from the girls’. He had celebrated his just a month before Tan Mo.

Since both Tan Mo and Qin Muye lived in different dorms, they separated on the path and went back to their own rooms.

After Tan Mo cleaned herself up, she climbed into her bed to get some rest after a long day.

However, she couldn’t get herself to fall asleep and decided to watch some drama as she chatted with Qin Muye and Ming Yeqing through WeChat.

She had no idea how much time had passed, but she’d fallen asleep with her wireless earbuds still in her ears and her phone in her hand.

Tan Mo had always been wary about her own health and cared for her body. That was why she never set her earbuds volume very high so that it wouldn’t harm her ears. Thus, when she fell asleep, the drama was still playing on her tablet.

The low sound became more like a lullaby to her.

Her tablet was mounted onto the headboard with a special mount so that she could watch the drama comfortably while lying on her bed.

As she continued to sleep, the drama automatically played the next episode.

She kept on sleeping until a WeChat notification woke her up.

Her earbuds were connected to her tablet and her phone at the same time.

Even though she’d set the volume on the tablet to very low, she didn’t do the same thing with her phone.

The loud notification woke her up from her dreams and her eyes shot wide open instantly.

She struggled a little, and the first thing she realized was that the drama was still playing on the tablet over her head.

The tablet’s battery had dropped from 50 percent to 15 percent.

She quickly got up, closed the application, and turned the tablet off.

The notification was still ringing on her phone, and she quickly realized it was a voice call instead of a message.

Tan Mo reached for her phone to check who was calling her in the middle of the night. As soon as she saw it was a call from Wei Zhiqian, her sleepiness was gone in an instant and she picked it up right away.

“Uncle…” Tan Mo whispered as she was scared that she would wake her roommates up.

Since she was woken up from a deep sleep, her voice was hoarse, and Wei Zhiqian recognized it right away.

“Were you sleeping?” he asked.

“I wasn’t planning on sleeping so early but got tired watching a drama,” Tan Mo replied. She was more of a night owl than an early sleeper.

She then checked the time and realized it was only a few seconds past midnight.

“Can you get up now?” Wei Zhiqian asked as he tried to control his laughter.

“Why? Are you on campus?” Tan Mo asked.

“Why don’t you go to the balcony?” Wei Zhiqian said.

Tan Mo could feel her heart racing. She hopped out of her bed with her phone and walked to the balcony.

The street lights below her dorm were still on, but she couldn’t see anyone.

Tan Mo tilted her head in confusion and was about to ask where Wei Zhiqian was when she heard a loud bang.

She immediately raised her head to look up into the sky.

The dark sky was now lit up by fireworks. It looked like a flower that was blossoming in the sky.

Before the first fireworks disappeared, another followed and merged with the first one.

And then another exploded in the sky. The fireworks continued for a long time.

They were in all sorts of colors and sizes, from pink to purple to yellow to red and silver. They filled the sky with different colors

Tan Mo was in complete awe.

The sound of fireworks caught everyone’s attention on the campus.

Although it was already midnight, most of the students weren’t asleep yet.

Even though it was past the curfew, most students would stay up late to either talk with their friends, watch dramas, or play games in the dark.

Those who had already fallen asleep were woken up by the explosions.

Everyone was now standing on their balconies, looking up into the sky.

“Is there something going on? Why is someone setting off fireworks?”

“They’re so pretty!”

“Is today a holiday or something?”

“No.”

“Judging from the size and distance, I think the fireworks are from our campus.”

“Aren’t these like professional fireworks? It’s not like those normal people can get to play with during the Lunar New Year.”

“Yup! This looks more like those they use in Disneyland or something!”

“Really? Sh*t! Isn’t this a huge treat for us? We can enjoy it in our rooms while other people have to pay for expensive tickets just to watch the fireworks show there with a huge crowd!”

“You’re right! We’re so lucky!”

Finally, a row of white rays was shot into the sky as if they were comets and exploded into dandelion-shaped fireworks in the night sky.

Everyone thought that was the end of the fireworks once the dandelion-shaped fireworks died out, and they were all satisfied with the show.

However, when the dandelions opened up and began to descend, each strand burst into firecrackers and made the sound of corn kernels popping.

The color quickly changed from white to blue as they popped.

It was as if the sky was suddenly filled with blue stars.

“It’s so pretty,” Tan Mo exclaimed with her mouth wide open.

She was sweating from the humid night, but she didn’t even notice it.

Her heart was racing so fast that she couldn’t feel anything else.

When the popcorn-like sound ended, the night returned to its quiet self once again.

Yet, Tan Mo still could not calm herself down.

She could hear her roommates guessing why someone had set off such a high-quality fireworks in the middle of the night.

“Happy 18th birthday, Mo Mo.” Tan Mo could hear Wei Zhiqian’s voice from the phone.

“Uncle! You prepared that, right?”

She’d already guessed it as the fireworks started as soon as Wei Zhiqian asked her to head to the balcony.

“My plan was to set it off at 12 o’clock sharp, but I was worried that you might miss it, so I called you first,” Wei Zhiqian explained. “Did you like it?”

“Yes! It was so pretty!” Tan Mo exclaimed, but her tone suddenly seemed a little disappointed. “Though, I thought you were here…”

Wei Zhiqian raised his brows.

Oh? Is she saying she’s disappointed that she didn’t get to see me?

The man smiled and asked, “So, which would you prefer? Me coming to see you or the fireworks?”

“I want Uncle here!” Tan Mo replied without even thinking.

Wei Zhiqian did not expect that Tan Mo would give him a reply instantly.

Even though he’d spent a lot of effort to prepare the fireworks show, it seemed as if that wasn’t what Tan Mo liked the most, which meant that he didn’t give her the biggest surprise that she wanted.

But Wei Zhiqian was still genuinely happy.

Well, in the end, there’s nothing more important than me for her, huh?

Just as Wei Zhiqian was still indulging in that thought, Tan Mo suddenly said, “I like the fireworks. They’re pretty. But I like Uncle even more!”

Wei Zhiqian couldn’t help but laugh at that.

What did I do in my past life for God to give me such a sweet little niece?
