To Bewitch a Devil

Chapter 4

Chapter 4: She is not her

”Why did you send her away? ”

Zavian asked, an angry look in his eyes. The smile on Freya’s face disappeared when she realized he knew everything. Freya scratched her head casually;

”My bad, I should have killed her when I had the chance. ” Zavian’s golden eyes grew dark. He was angry.

”You know how much I missed Delilah, and yet you wanted to kill the only woman in centuries who looked exactly like her. ”

Freya chuckled. ”Don’t be silly, brother. You and I know that she’s not Delilah. We both saw her disappear into the air. That girl is just a lowly slave and a human at that. There is no connection between them. ” Freya replied.

”Even at that, did you have to kill her just because she looked like Delilah? ”

Freya scoffed;

.....

”It’s not like this is the first time I’ve killed a human without a reason, and besides, you are in no place to lecture me. You have killed thousands without a reason, too. And, I did not kill her, I sent her away from the Castle. If you had not returned when you did, she would have left peacefully. ”

”And you would have kept it away from me. ”

”Indeed. I did not want you to get confused like you are now. If she is in the castle, you will keep seeing her and you will keep thinking that one day, something might happen and she’ll might be Delilah, which is impossible!”

Freya sighed and walked to where Zavian stood; ”Brother, you were finally getting over her. I did not want you to return to that hole where you were before.”

”You don’t get to choose what I do and don’t do, Freya.”

”I know, but I get to protect you when I can. And I can tell you, that girl is no good. I can smell trouble. ”

Zavian frowned; ”She is going nowhere;”

Freya shut her eyes and took in a deep breath, controlling her anger. She knew this was exactly what was going to happen if he saw her. He would never let her go.

”She’s not Delilah, Zavian. ”

”I did not say she was. But she is staying in the castle. ”

”what are you going to do with her?”

”She is a maid brought to work in my court, so she would work here. ”

Freya grew furious; ”There is no empty position in your court, someone else has taken her spot.”

”I don’t care. Find something for her to do. ” Zavian said and walked closer to his sister.

” I know you are scared I would call off the engagement party, but I assure you, I would do no such thing. She found her way to me, even when you tried to get rid of her, so surely there is something extraordinary about her, and I’ll find out what it is.”

”Zavian, you do not want to make that mistake; what if you fall for her?”

”She’s not Delilah, and I cannot risk another war. ”

Zavian said and walked out of the room. Freya sighed, brushing her fingers through her hair. She had a terrible feeling about this.

...

Neera opened her eyes; she looked around her in surprise. The last thing she remembered was the king telling her to open her eyes. She thought he was going to kill her, her heart had raced so fast that she collapsed.

”You are awake. ” Neera heard a voice say, and she looked in the direction. An elderly man sat beside her. He was not handsome at all, but seeing his purple hair, she knew he was a demon.

This was the first time she was seeing an ugly demon. She didn’t know they existed.

”You look so much like her. ” The man exclaimed, shaking his head in surprise. Neera frowned.

”Who do I look like? ” She asked, sitting up on the bed.

”No one has told you? ” the man asked, and Neera shook her head. She knew something was wrong with how strange everyone behaved, but she did not know it was because she looked like someone.

”You look like the dead queen. The only difference between you two is the color of your eyes. ”

The man said, and Neera’s eyes widened in shock. Was that why the king was staring at her earlier?

She thought it was because he wanted to kill her. She did not know it was because she looked like his dead wife.

”I did not know that. ” Neera said.

”You’re a strange one, a human with the looks of an immortal. And not just any immortal, the dead wife of the king. ”

Neera felt her heart beating faster. She had a bad feeling about this.

”Who killed her? The queen? ” She was an immortal, right? How could she die?”

”The king’s father, the Devil. Only ancient demons can kill demons, and he killed her during the war against his son. We watched her disappear like mist into the air. Once a demon is killed, they never return.”

Neera didn’t feel too good. The last thing she wanted was to be entangled in the demon’s matters. Why did she have to look like the queen?

Why?

The man sitting by her side was still staring at her, with unbelief in his eyes. By now, word must have spread that there was one who looked like the queen.

Neera sighed. If she had walked faster, she would have escaped all of this. She knew things would never be the same. There was no way it was. But would she be safe?

The door flung open, interrupting her thoughts. Neera turned to the door and saw the red-haired demon she had seen with Beatrice. The woman walked to her, and Neera grew scared when she saw the angry look on her face.

Freya glared at Neera for minutes before she turned to the physician;

”What is wrong with her?”

”It seems she fainted from hunger, your highness. ” The physician said, bowing his head.

”Tell the maids to get her something to eat. She would be needing her strength. ”
