Chapter 474 474: 7th Floor Welcome III
Inky black shadows slithered out of the wall, grabbing a hold of Cole as a chill seeped into his bones. His body shook, as apparitions of his dead family members appeared in front of him, stabbing their ghostly fingers Into his flesh.
Cole leapt off the ledge, dismissing the system prompt about the synergy between bloodline and stat. He leapt from the ledge as those inky shadows appeared again, perhaps it was best not to call them shadows but actually darkness.
Without a doubt, Azrael has already had time to understand his stats and skills and whatever other advantage he had brought with him here. But regardless of what it was, Cole was not the kind to go into the darkness quietly, it was still too early to see who was going to die here.
He twisted his body and landed on the scorched ground, the aftermath of his fiery attack. Cole moved to the side, using the body of the hand cannon to deflect a strike to his ribs. The angle and precision 9f the attack as it had come out of his own shadow was a notch above Cole's own control. The shadow blade would have slipped in between his ribs and into his heart.
Cole stomped on the ground, without a technique he could only use his skills with brute force. He released a wave of gravity but accompanying it with a blast of lightning. He might not know the limits of his new skills but he at least remembered what it felt like to use the skills that had been combined to make the new skills. He would adapt and learn on the fly.
His attack was pretty useless as it had not hit anyone, however Cole was not aiming to land a hit. He knew his enemy was close to him, but even with the bloody Divination stat, Cole could not catch even a smidge of trace of Azrael, instinct was what has been keeping him alive and of course the damn stat.
Azrael is better equipped and prepared to deal with Cole, after all this was not just an assassination but a trap that had been set and one that he had foolishly walked into, thinking his power would save him. Yet here he was, akin to a baby, a total noob in a hardcore game….he needed to retreat and think up a strategy to defeat this guy.
The gravity blast made impact, a shimmer in the air before it vanished a split second later. Cole did not have time to chase after it as he blasted himself forwards, rushing towards the ladder to the walkway and the maintenance entrance behind it.
He slid on the ground, as a shower of shadow spikes stabbed into the ground, following after him as he, roughly used Gravity to drag himself, before jumping and blasting himself through the door. Cole smashed into the wall and crashed to ground, skidding on the uneven debris covered metal floor for close to 5 meters before he came to a stop having left a bloody smear behind.
He waved his arm behind him, manipulating gravity to slam the maintenance door shut. Then he got up, half his face peeled raw and bloody as he ran down the pathway, putting his gun away. He was wearing his armor absent his helmet, that was a mistake Cole would never repeat as he gave Lyren the order to cover his head.
Bleeding and very sure there were things in his body that had been either moved out of alignment or out rightly broken, Cole used [Auric Galaxy] again, covering himself in a cocoon of wind and gravity, he blasted himself forwards, and just in time as shadow scythe had slashed down from the ceiling.
*Boom!*
Cole's movement broke the sound barrier, and in such a small enclosed space, that was twice as damaging as most would expect as Azrael was blasted out of his stealth, his ears ringing and bleeding at the same time. Cole on the other hand did not look back, he needed space, even 20 minutes of quiet would be enough for him to make that shadowy sneaky fuck pay!
"Master do you know you curse a lot?"
"Not now Lyren, as you can see I'm trying to save our lives." Cole replied as he turned a corner, smashing into the side roughly but not even slowing down as he blasted forwards and through and opening at the side of the wall out into what looked to be some sort of aqueduct.
"Well just so you know, only one of us is defenseless here. Master we can become one! Even more so now that I can become a part of you, why the hell are you hesitating!" Cole blinked once then twice as he said with a dead pan tone.
"And how do you propose I do that, when we're running for our fucking lives!"
"You're the only one who's running! And you're using my body to do it! Wolves don't run!" Cole chuckled, guess he understood what was wrong with the Chaos Pup. He did not like running from a fight or feeling as if he had lost in a confrontation….
Cole gave a bit of thought to what Lyren had said. Perhaps the secret to dealing with this guy was attaching weapons to his stats, or Animechs, which can also be considered a sort of equipment. This new system for humanity was crazy, there was synergy in everything, and it was not just having 5 stats and skills or in Cole's case 6 stats and skills, but rather having 6 classes that could be catered and trained to deal with different scenarios.
The potential this system has, compared to the previous prism based system was massive. And the skills drove the advancements which meant that any sufficiently strong person would be genuinely dangerous to deal with rather than reaching the peak by relying on prisms to raise stats.
Cole crashed out into an open plaza. He could see the ruins of once massive sky scrappers, a transit system across the sky and debris floating everywhere. But beyond that were the giant metal space sharks and octopuses that were floating about with eerie red eyes.
"Maybe we should get out of the open." Cole said to Lyren, as the pup responded.
"Yes master, that would be wise."
