Chapter 915
Chapter 915: Arriving At The Palace
‘Lower your senses the next time I’m talking to your mother.’ Rutherford chided the young girl seated opposite him.
The family of three was currently inside a moving carriage that was heading towards the Palace gates not too far away from their estate.
Since the Earl had used the same method to communicate with his child, the Countess once again was left in the dark.
However, Yvonne who had heard those words echoing in her head could not help but blink while staring at her father as though she had just heard something absurd.
‘He makes it sound as though I have any control over it.’ She thought to herself, continuing to display that expression of disbelief that had now appeared on her face.
The aura residing within her body allowed her senses to be sharper than those who did not possess it.
It also helped her to heighten her senses whenever she pleased, in order to achieve any task she had taken upon herself.
.....
However, this did not mean that she could lower her senses whenever she pleased as well.
Even if she did not wish to overhear what they were whispering earlier, as long as they were within a certain distance of her, she could not help it as their conversation would have entered her ears regardless of whether she had plans to eavesdrop on them or not.
Therefore, her father’s grumbling words from earlier made no sense to her as he was asking her to do something that wasn’t within her powers.
However, she could tell that he had been embarrassed after what had taken place.
For this reason, she cleared her throat and gave him a slight nod so as to not alert the clueless Countess before averting her gaze once again.
Rutherford was satisfied with this response even though he knew that he was asking too much of her.
This made his face flush once again and he too looked out of the window, staring at the scenery to avoid getting noticed by his wife and child.
While Rutherford was staring out of the window on the door of the carriage, Yvonne had been viewing the world outside the other window.
Thanks to this, she had gotten the perfect view of the Palace they were drawing closer to as time passed by.
She also realized that they weren’t the only ones following this route as many carriages were either before them or following after them on the same path.
Since they were on a straight path, moving ahead, the little girl could not observe their carriages properly.
If she had gotten the chance then she would have known just who those carriages belonged to as the emblems of the families seated inside were depicted in vivid colors on the sides of these carriages.
Similarly, the carriage the St. Claire family was seated inside also had their family’s emblem painted on the sides just like the rest.
Usually, such carriages were used only when the Fief Lord wished to head out for official purposes.
As the event being held at the Royal Palace was also considered to be an official meeting, many families had brought out these carriages and were now on their way to their destination.
___
Yvonne knew that they were close to their destination when their carriage had slowed down and had been moving at a snail’s pace for the past few minutes.
It was necessary to maintain strict security whenever any outsider was allowed to enter the Royal Palace.
Therefore, on days when numerous such outsiders were invited to enter the Palace, security measures were more stringent than ever.
So it was obvious that their carriage was also made to wait in a line while the ones who had reached before them were going through the safety inspections.
‘I wonder if Grandpa and the twins have already entered the Palace?’ The little girl wondered while they waited inside the carriage for their turn to arrive.
She had heard from her Grandfather that the Valente family had also received an invite to the King’s birthday celebration.
For so many years now, they had not attended this event and only sent their gifts to the King beforehand.
However, as three members of the Valente family were in the Capital right now, this event would be unavoidable for them this year.
Hence the young girl was curious to know where they were right now.
She sighed as neither her cousins nor the old man had an etcher so it was impossible for her to contact them and know about their current whereabouts.
The twins, though had turned adults a long while ago, had not found their fated beasts while the old man’s beast had been dead for many years now.
Therefore, Yvonne could only wait patiently until they entered the Palace to know whether the twins had arrived or not.
However, contrary to her current plight of being made to wait outside the gates of the Palace while the carriages in front of them were being checked, there was someone who had made their way inside the Palace already.
The Marquess with the beautiful long silver hair smiled as he scanned his surroundings.
He had arrived earlier than the rest and was brought to the Banquet hall where today’s event would be held.
It wasn’t his punctuality and respect towards the Royal invitation he had received but his eagerness to witness numerous exciting incidents on this occasion that resulted in him appearing ahead of the others.
Right now, his sharp red eyes were observing each and every person who had arrived at this Banquet hall while also waiting to see who else would be here soon.
‘Master, your favored pupil has arrived at the Palace gates.’ A chirping voice echoed in this Marquess’ mind, disclosing the whereabouts of a certain someone he was eager to meet soon.
Today’s event was unlike anything ever before as there would be women and young girls attending as well, something which had never taken place in the past many years.
Therefore, Marquess Samed had been excited to see how their future would unfold after this revolutionary event took place.
To be aware of everyone approaching the Palace, he had instructed his etcher, Keira, to keep an eye on her surroundings outside the Palace gates.
No etchers were allowed to enter the Palace grounds so his etcher, a raven, could only be stationed close to the entrance of the Palace and keep him updated on the guests who were arriving one after the other.
‘I see the Master’s sister here as well.’ Keira continued her report, making the Marquess scoff when he heard his sister being mentioned.
‘Forget about her! Who else is there?’ Marquess Samed questioned to which the etcher was quick to scan her surroundings and disclose the names after viewing the emblems she was able to catch sight of from her vantage point.
Hearing quite a few familiar names, the Marquess smirked at the thought of the thrilling incidents he would soon get to witness.
___
“Don’t you think the Marquess is a little strange?” A middle-aged woman whispered to her husband who stood next to her.
This couple was one among those who had also arrived early at the Palace, escaping the rush which was now found outside the main entrance.
Ever since they had arrived at the Banquet Hall, this couple had been standing in a corner as they were members of the lowest tier of nobility in their Kingdom.
Though they were well-to-do and had made a name for themselves in this society where people did not mind being connected with them thanks to their prosperous businesses, their status still was at the very bottom.
Hence this couple was standing by themselves, at least until they could find someone they were familiar and comfortable with.
During this time, the wife had been observing those around her and this was when her eyes caught sight of an eligible bachelor who also happened to be the Royal Tutor.
However, her high opinion of him was beginning to dwindle when she saw the various expressions fluttering across his face as he stood by his lonesome in another corner just like them.
Hearing her evaluation of the Marquess, the husband too turned in the direction she was looking at and shook his head in response.
“The word you are looking for is ‘eccentric’, my love.” Baron MacIntyre chuckled while correcting his young wife.
The Baron who happened to be in his early fifties had married a woman ten years younger than him.
When they first got married, many mocked his wife for wasting her future on an old man like him.
However, he had been caring and considerate toward her ever since they had first met each other.
Now, almost twenty years after their marriage, though they had no children of their own, he had worked hard to prove those mocking words to be false.
His young wife was someone he cherished the most and he was willing to do everything within his power to keep her happy.
Therefore, when he saw her staring at the Marquess as she uttered her low evaluation of him, he smiled and corrected her rather than chiding her for being rude to someone with a higher status.
Not to mention that he too had a similar opinion regarding the Marquess but recalling that all geniuses were eccentric in one way or the other, he shrugged his shoulders and dismissed this thought from his mind before asking his wife to also not focus on it any longer.
“Do you think she will come?” He heard his wife whispering once again but this time, her voice was lower and more cautious than it had been before.
Glancing at her from the corner of his eye, he knew just who she was talking about.
“I’m not too sure either, my Lady.” He replied with a sigh as there was no saying what the person associated with the one they were talking about was up to.
