This Childhood Sweetheart is a Little Sweet

Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Yi Ming and Jiang Wei's families had been neighbors for over ten years. Neither felt their new relationship was unfamiliar.

Yi Ming was scheming to take advantage of the situation. There was a saying that the closest tower gets the moonlight first. He thought his tower was already in place and catching the moon would be a piece of cake.

Little did he expect that the journey would be as arduous as the Monkey King's trip to the West. His road to romance was even more difficult, truly harder than rising to heaven!

When postgraduate candidate Zhou appeared at Jiang Wei’s door with her suitcase, she looked up at Yi Ming, who was as tall as an oak tree, stared blankly for a moment, then blushed and quickly lowered her head to apologize, “I’m so sorry, I walked into the wrong room!”

Zhou was about to leave when Jiang Wei heard the noise and hurried over in her slippers. She pushed Yi Ming, who had come to eat and drink, out the door, "Hello senior student. I'm your roommate. You didn't walk into the wrong room."

"Then who is he?" Zhou's eyes widened.

"The neighbor begging for food," Jiang Wei lightly kicked Yi Ming's calf. "You don't need to bother with him."

"Hey, you—" Yi Ming hadn't managed to retort Jiang Wei's cold-shoulder before she slammed the door in his face with a "bang". Suddenly shut-out with half a chicken leg in his hand, it no longer smelled appetizing.

Zhou was still flustered as Jiang Wei pulled her into the room. As she changed shoes, she murmured to herself, "Is the beggar industry really so dominated by youths nowadays? He looks quite handsome though. How could he have fallen to this?"

Jiang Wei smiled slyly to herself. She guessed it was probably because he was lazy!

At lunchtime today, a certain someone didn't want to eat in the cafeteria. Hearing Jiang Wei was home cooking nutritious meals for Xiao Shi, Yi Ming wedged himself through the door. Stew with low-salt chicken legs and breast was bubbling in the pot. Jiang Wei stirred it twice with a ladle. The aroma dispersed and she turned to find two pairs of dark eyes, one human and one canine, staring at her.

"This is for Xiao Shi." Jiang Wei waved the ladle, hinting that a certain someone shouldn't try anything.

"I'm not greedy. I just want a tiny chicken leg." Yi Ming pleaded, biting his lip. Jiang Wei sighed. My friend, is it really ok to compete with a puppy for food?

"No..." As Jiang Wei shook her head, before she could finish speaking, Yi Ming suddenly appeared before her. He braced his hands on the cupboards, trapping Jiang Wei in his embrace.

Jiang Wei blushed but kept her voice steady, "What are you doing?"

Yi Ming raised an eyebrow, smiling at her red lips, "Never mind then. I found something tastier."

"Yi Ming—" Jiang Wei froze for a couple of seconds. As she lifted the ladle to hit him, the man spun in a flash. Chopsticks that had been concealed made their way accurately into the pot and snatched up the tender, fragrant chicken leg. Yi Ming turned and ran.

"..."

Jiang Wei shook her head. When she looked down:

Xiao Shi glanced at her then back at Yi Ming, who was hiding on the balcony to stealthily eat. The puppy's eyes said he was about to cry, as if complaining: How shameless! Stealing from a dog!

Thinking of this scene, the corners of Jiang Wei's lips curved into a gentle smile.

"What are you smiling about? You look so happy." Zhou smiled, eyes curving, as she watched her intently. She felt this roommate was the most comfortable girl she had ever seen.

She used the word "comfortable" because although Jiang Wei was pretty, she wasn't flashy. Her eyes were gentle and though the young lady didn't seem to smile much, whenever her mouth curved the slightest bit, it was enough to melt ice and snow.

Jiang Wei pressed her lips together and laughed softly. She didn't intend to answer Zhou's question. Instead, she said, "I'm going to cook in a bit. Senior student, you're welcome to eat with me if you don't mind."

And so, the taciturn Jiang Wei won over her senior roommate's heart with her cooking on the very first day.

Zhou really liked this junior. She was preparing for postgraduate exams and Zhou needed peace and quiet. She was thousands of miles from family and often missed her dog. Jiang Wei frequently brought Xiao Shi for her to play with. Zhou feared the dark and studied with the light on all night. Jiang Wei never complained about splitting electricity costs. She was thoughtful and considerate.

If not for a certain someone's meddling, Zhou could never have imagined voluntarily moving out and leaving such a sweet junior roommate.

Of course, that was a story for another time.
