Chapter 422: Chapter 422: You Come to My Door to Snatch the Bride
(Thanks to the novel readers for their rewards. The seventeenth update; another triple update)
Four people sat down together for dinner. Wuyue was originally reluctant to sit down and eat with the other three, but at Luo Ziling’s repeated insistence, she finally sat down at the dining table, though somewhat constrainedly.
Luo Ziling also paid close attention to observing the expressions of Ling Ruonan and Yang Qingyin, trying to decipher something from their changing expressions.
The two women had spent time together in the kitchen cooking, during which they must have talked about a lot of things.
Ling Ruonan had mentioned over the phone that she wanted to discuss some things with Yang Qingyin.
Luo Ziling knew they must have already spoken, and he was very curious to know exactly what they had discussed.
But he couldn’t discern anything from their demeanors, and though he was slightly disappointed, he also breathed a sigh of relief.
During the meal, Ling Ruonan only asked Luo Ziling about his studies and life recently, as well as about the performances at the welcome party. Luo Ziling took out his cellphone and showed Ling Ruonan the video that Ouyang Huihui had filmed.
After watching the video, Ling Ruonan’s eyes widened in astonishment, and she then seemed very proud.
“Ling’er, I didn’t expect you to be so adept, just like an acrobat,” Ling Ruonan looked at Luo Ziling with adoration, smiling happily, and asked Wuyue, “Wuyue, what do you think of Ling’er’s performance?”
As Ling Ruonan watched the video, Wuyue, too, curiously leaned in to have a look, and she was equally astounded by Luo Ziling’s challenging moves.
Hearing Ling Ruonan’s comments, Wuyue sincerely praised, “The young master’s martial arts skills are truly remarkable; they’re breathtaking.”
This made Ling Ruonan even more delighted.
Seeing his mother so pleased and receiving praise from Wuyue, the normally cold and beautiful woman, right to his face, Luo Ziling felt quite proud too.
To Luo Ziling’s surprise, after dinner, Yang Qingyin was the first to say goodbye, stating she was tired from walking so much that day and wanted to go back early to rest. She mentioned she had to prepare a little for a charity event that she would be attending with some student council members the next morning.
“Alright, let Wuyue drive you back,” Ling Ruonan surprisingly did not insist on Yang Qingyin staying any longer and let her leave.
Although Luo Ziling found this strange, Yang Qingyin was determined to leave and Ling Ruonan did not try to keep her, so in the end, he said nothing.
Yang Qingyin declined Wuyue’s offer to take her home, saying someone was picking her up.
Ling Ruonan did not press further and asked Luo Ziling to walk Yang Qingyin out of the complex.
Ling Ruonan had asked Luo Ziling to stay the night to have a talk with her.
Naturally, Luo Ziling complied and accompanied Yang Qingyin towards the complex’s gate.
“What did my mom talk to you about just now?” After leaving the villa, Luo Ziling curiously asked Yang Qingyin, “There’s nothing that I shouldn’t know about, right?”
“It’s all things you’re not supposed to know,” Yang Qingyin said, holding back a laugh and teasing Luo Ziling.
“No way?” Luo Ziling was dumbfounded.
Yang Qingyin took the initiative to grab Luo Ziling’s hand, smiling happily, “I’m just kidding, there are certainly things you need to know.”
“Fine, I’m all ears.”
“Your mom said that the street assassination attempt on you can almost certainly be traced back to the Ling family, with Ling Haining and Ling Haijun being the prime suspects,” Yang Qingyin said, slowing her pace, “Actually, you’ve probably guessed it already, haven’t you? It’s not our Yang family members, so I feel somewhat relieved.”
“My mom hasn’t told me about this yet,” Luo Ziling shook his head slightly, “It seems the Ling family can’t tolerate me even more now.”
“If you continue to perform even better, the Ling family will have even more reasons not to tolerate you,” Yang Qingyin said with a somewhat playful smile on her face, “During Ouyang Huihui’s birthday, they tried to get you drunk, but you were fine, and the Ling brothers ended up in the hospital. Although it’s a small matter, those who are dissatisfied with you will still see it as a monumental disgrace. Maybe next time, they will directly aim for your life.”
“Okay, you’re making me a little nervous now,” Luo Ziling smiled at Yang Qingyin, “I mean, I’m bringing you along for free food and drinks today, don’t scare me like this, my courage is rather small.”
“Cut it out, you? Scared?” Yang Qingyin rolled her eyes, “If you’re scared, then no one is brave.”
“Seriously, I really am timid. Don’t believe me? Want to check?” Luo Ziling said, pulling Yang Qingyin’s hand toward the area over his gallbladder.
As a result, Yang Qingyin pinched his waist fiercely, making him grimace in pain.
Their jesting took the edge off a serious conversation, and Yang Qingyin had to regain her seriousness, “Because of some women, others also have complaints about you. Now you’re making enemies everywhere; let’s see how you deal with this.”
At this point, although Yang Qingyin hadn’t initially wanted to speak of the events that happened when she returned home the previous day, she ultimately told Luo Ziling what Yang Yunlin had said, “My dad urgently called me back yesterday to announce something. The Yang family is preparing an arranged marriage with the Fang family, and they plan to betroth me to Fang Dongxun.”
“What?” Luo Ziling was utterly shocked and stared at Yang Qingyin in disbelief, “How could this happen?”
“Seeing how unfazed you are,” Yang Qingyin felt a bit relieved to see Luo Ziling’s reaction, but couldn’t resist teasing, “Since it doesn’t bother you, I won’t speak of it further.”
Now Luo Ziling became anxious, persistently asking Yang Qingyin for more details, urging her to tell him everything.
“That’s all,” Yang Qingyin tightened her grip on Luo Ziling’s hand, “I went back to my room right after my dad told me. He had to go out for something this morning, so I came back to campus.”
“You’re kidding, right?” Luo Ziling’s face was filled with incredulity, “Such an important matter, and you just left it at that?”
“I didn’t want to talk about it, so I ignored them,” Yang Qingyin said as she continued walking Luo Ziling toward the exit of the residential area, “I was thinking, in the future, there will surely be a lot of conflicts between you and Fang Dongxun. All the young masters from the great families are your enemies; let’s see how you handle them.”
“If I can’t handle it, I’ll just get them drunk or knock them all down with my fists,” Luo Ziling waved his fist fiercely, unafraid, “After all, none of them can outdrink me or outfight me, and they’re not as handsome as me either, so who’s afraid of them?”
The last sentence cracked Yang Qingyin up, “I can’t with you, you never forget to show off no matter the situation.”
“Okay, I’ll stop bragging,” Luo Ziling put away his smile and asked Yang Qingyin seriously, “So, what do you plan to do about it?”
“What do you think I should do about it?” Yang Qingyin countered Luo Ziling.
“Heh, why are you asking me again?” Luo Ziling pinched his nose awkwardly, then said earnestly, “If your dad insists on marrying you off to someone else, I’ll storm in and whisk you away. Didn’t I just say I’d take you to be The Lady in Charge of Suppressing Bandits?”
Yang Qingyin looked at Luo Ziling seriously, then broke into a radiant smile, “Alright then, I’ll agree with my dad. When the day comes for me to marry into the Fang family, you can come over and snatch me away!”
“…” Luo Ziling stared at Yang Qingyin with his mouth agape.
