Chapter 323: Accident
(Chapter Nine)
After having lunch, Luo Ziling received a phone call. Unexpectedly, the caller was Shanque, whom he hadn’t seen since.
“Luo Ziling, at twelve-thirty noon, I’ll be waiting for you at the gate of your school. The chief sent me to pick you up.”
Receiving the call from Shanque, Luo Ziling hesitated.
He had classes in the afternoon, and it seemed like the first one was a Chinese class. It would be hard to justify taking leave.
But with Shanque coming to pick him up directly, it would also be quite awkward to refuse.
As he was hesitating, he heard Yang Qingyin, who overheard Shanque’s voice on the phone, pull at his clothes and whisper, “Don’t go to class this afternoon, go to Li Haiyang’s place.”
Yang Qingyin’s words made Luo Ziling make up his mind instantly.
“Alright then,” he immediately agreed to Shanque, “I’ll be at the school gate waiting for you at twelve-thirty.”
Checking the time, it was already twelve fifteen, so Luo Ziling hurriedly finished the food in his bowl and stood up. “Senior, I’m going to wait at the school gate then.”
“Be careful,” Yang Qingyin said, not too worried after having seen Luo Ziling’s injuries.
Luo Ziling’s wounds had already scabbed over and healed. It looked like they would indeed be better in a couple of days.
While marveling at Luo Ziling’s miraculous medical skills, Yang Qingyin also breathed a sigh of relief.
At least she wouldn’t have to worry about Luo Ziling’s wound healing anymore.
After bidding farewell to Yang Qingyin and Ye Xiaoli, Luo Ziling went straight to the school gate.
At twelve twenty-nine, Luo Ziling had not yet seen any sign of Shanque, but at twelve-thirty, he saw a military license plate Humvee speeding towards him, with a sudden brake stopping right in front of him. Military people really are punctual!
“Get in!” The driver’s side window rolled down, and Shanque, wearing sunglasses, pushed them up and smiled inviting Luo Ziling to get into the car.
Amidst the gaze of many students entering and leaving the school gate, Luo Ziling opened the passenger door and got into the car.
“Looks like my acne medicine is still doing pretty well,” Luo Ziling glanced at Shanque’s face and teased with a smile, “Your face is much smoother than before.”
“Right,” Shanque sounded very happy when Luo Ziling brought this up, “The acne really has reduced some. If I keep using your medicine for a bit longer, it might completely disappear. Thanks, yo!”
“What will you use to thank me?” Luo Ziling chuckled and said, “The people from Dragon Rise all have a unique skill. You should use your unique skill to thank me.”
“Haha,” Shanque suddenly laughed, “You’re really straightforward. How about this, I’ll teach you Disguise Skills, that’s my forte. If you want to disguise yourself as a woman, under my guidance, you can totally do it. It’s just that you’re quite tall, and women that tall aren’t very common.”
“That sounds great,” Luo Ziling thought about it for a moment and felt that the skill could be very useful, so he readily agreed.
“Once the leader has finished talking to you, I’ll teach you Disguise Skills,” Shanque didn’t have Lin Lan’s penchant for playing it cool and readily agreed when discussing matters.
“Just yesterday I told my senior that today would be my first official day of school, so I wasn’t going to go treat him,” Luo Ziling also expressed his confusion, “How come the senior has sent you to pick me up again?”
“I just got back from a mission, and the leader asked me to drive you. I don’t know the reason either,” Shanque carefully looked at Luo Ziling twice before asking in a low voice, “You’re injured, what happened? Could it be that the leader suddenly had me pick you up because it’s related to your injury?”
“I have no idea,” Luo Ziling looked completely baffled.
“I heard that you were ganged up on and beaten at the school gate last time. Kong Que stepped in and chased them all away. She even personally inquired into the matter afterwards. It seems like those guys were instigated by a member of the Yang Family, someone named Yang Shubao. Originally, Kong Que wanted to take revenge for you, but she was stopped by the leader, who told us not to get involved in this matter,” Shanque explained, then realized she had leaked a secret and hastily shut her mouth.
However, after she stopped talking, she couldn’t help but add, “Pretend you didn’t hear what I said, and definitely don’t repeat it, especially not in front of the leader.”
“Got it,” even though it took Luo Ziling a moment to make the connection between Kong Que and Lin Lan, after hearing Shanque’s words, he couldn’t help but feel sorrowful. It really was a plot orchestrated by the Yang Family; they truly wanted him dead.
“Can you tell me, what happened?” Shanque whispered again, “When Kong Que left, she specifically told me to help you out if there was trouble.”
“Heh, she’s really gone to a lot of trouble,” the words uttered by Shanque warmed Luo Ziling’s heart.
The woman who liked to act cool and didn’t talk much, she was indeed quite nice to him.
“Kong Que is really good to you, I never thought she’d care so much for a man,” Shanque pursed her lips, a bit displeased, “A lot of our comrades are jealous of you!”
Of course, Luo Ziling didn’t want to admit anything and made an excuse for Lin Lan, “I saved her life, so it’s normal for her to express her gratitude. Just like I helped you with your acne, and you do something to show your appreciation, what’s so strange about that?”
Shanque gave Luo Ziling a blank look but said no more.
Shanque drove fast, and it only took forty minutes to reach Dragon Rise base. The traffic was not very congested at midday, and the speed was obviously faster than in the morning. After the car entered the Dragon Rise base, Shanque took Luo Ziling directly to Li Haiyang.
“You’re here?” Li Haiyang, enjoying the ministrations of the nurses, greeted Luo Ziling with a smile as he arrived and motioned for him to sit by the bed. After Luo Ziling sat down, Li Haiyang also instructed the nurses and Shanque, who had shown the way, to leave.
“You weren’t supposed to come over for treatment today,” Li Haiyang explained, then added, “I really didn’t expect that on your way home yesterday, you’d actually face an assassination attempt.”
“Senior, you know about this too?” Although Luo Ziling had guessed that Li Haiyang had asked him to come over at noon because of what happened yesterday, he still showed some surprise.
“Some people are just lawless,” Li Haiyang said with a stern look, then turning to Luo Ziling, “In this matter, your mother will definitely attack back. But I want to remind you that what happened yesterday might be more complicated than you think. Also, in the coming time, you may encounter even more incidents, so at any time, you must be fully prepared.”
Luo Ziling was quite surprised that Li Haiyang would warn him so directly and quickly agreed, “Thank you for the warning, senior. I’ll remember that.”
“I’ll have someone look into yesterday’s incident and find out who was really behind it,” Li Haiyang said, a hint of a playful smile on his lips, “As for the results, it doesn’t matter whether you know or not, just do what you think is right.”
Luo Ziling thought about it for a moment before he understood Li Haiyang’s meaning.
Things were indeed more complex than he had imagined.
