Chapter 272: 272 Does She Care About What The Family Gives Her?

But there were no messages from Yang Qingyin on his phone, which made him somewhat nervous.

Yang Qingyin had told him not to contact her first; she would get in touch when she was available.

Luo Ziling followed Yang Qingyin’s instructions, refraining from calling or messaging her first.

Just as he was feeling conflicted, the WeChat notification sounded—it was from Yang Qingyin, and he brightened up as if he’d found a treasure.

“Junior, I was forced to chat with my mom for ages and only just got free,” Yang Qingyin first explained the situation, then sent another message, “Have you gone to sleep yet?”

“Waiting for your message,” Luo Ziling replied, adding several happy emojis.

Yang Qingyin immediately sent back two smiling faces.

Following this, Yang Qingyin sent an invite for a video call, which Luo Ziling accepted without hesitation.

Through the video, Luo Ziling saw Yang Qingyin in her pajamas, sitting in her bed with her hair casually scattered about.

Although the image in the video wasn’t very clear, Luo Ziling was quick to notice that Yang Qingyin looked somewhat haggard.

“Senior, you don’t look so well, what’s wrong?”

“Didn’t sleep well,” Yang Qingyin shook her head in the video, indicating to Luo Ziling not to worry, “Woke up in the middle of last night and couldn’t get back to sleep for a long time, and then all this happened today.”

“You didn’t look like this when I saw you during the day,” Luo Ziling wasn’t easily fooled.

“Got happy seeing you,” she said.

This made Luo Ziling very happy, and he quickly responded, “I’m also happy seeing you.”

Luo Ziling then briefly told her about his encounter with Ling Ruonan that evening and mentioned that he had cried as well.

Yang Qingyin was also somewhat moved by his story, but in order not to make Luo Ziling upset, she joked with a laugh, “Did it look like a little tadpole searching for its mother?”

“Senior, you’re kind of evil,” replied Luo Ziling, who was studying medicine and interpreted the comment in a different sense.

Yang Qingyin, clueless, protested innocently, “What do you mean? Don’t talk nonsense.”

“Alright, I won’t talk nonsense,” Luo Ziling dropped the subject and started asking about what had happened at Yang Qingyin’s home.

“I’ll be back at school tomorrow, can we talk about it when we meet?” Yang Qingyin still preferred to discuss these issues face to face with Luo Ziling, so she whispered a request to him.

“Alright,” Luo Ziling agreed, “Where shall we meet tomorrow?”

“My dad has assigned two more people to follow me, and according to Xiaoli, there are another three people at the school monitoring my every move,” Yang Qingyin honestly told Luo Ziling the situation, “They are there to watch me and prevent us from meeting.”

At this, Yang Qingyin appeared very angry and disappointed.

She had always believed she was the apple of her parents’ eye, that her father was very democratic and reasonable, never forceful about what she should do, and that she could make her own life choices, including her marital life.

But to her surprise, everything had changed; not only had her father altered his approach, but he had also taken steps that made her extremely angry. Only then did she realize that her father’s affection for her had conditions and limits.

Her relationship with Luo Ziling had crossed those limits.

She was certainly angry, but also helpless.

Of course, her stubborn nature made it impossible for Yang Qingyin to simply submit. To her, as long as there was oppression, she would fiercely resist.

If her father had treated her kindly, talked to her nicely, and clearly explained his reasons, hoping she wouldn’t continue to associate with Luo Ziling, without using any coercive methods, then she might have seriously considered it.

She was someone who couldn’t be coerced by force, never yielding to a harsh approach. Of course, sometimes she wouldn’t yield to a gentle approach either, depending on the person and her mood.

After thinking for a while, Luo Ziling whispered, “Last time, didn’t we sit on the willow by the lake to chat? How about I go up the tree first, then you come over, and I’ll pull you up. That way, nobody will see us.”

After saying this, Luo Ziling felt proud of his quick wit.

“Not a bad idea,” Yang Qingyin said with a smile.

After a pause, Luo Ziling added, “What about your dorm mates?”

“They’ve all gone home.” While answering this question, an idea struck Yang Qingyin, making her heart flutter. “You want to come to my dorm?”

“I’m willing to take a risk and play the role of a flower thief,” said Luo Ziling, grinning indecently.

Yang Qingyin couldn’t help but laugh at Luo Ziling’s teasing, reaching out to the phone screen as if to pinch his face, “You annoying junior, always making fun of people.”

“I’m not making fun of you, and I wouldn’t dare to.”

“Let’s decide tomorrow, whether it’s by the lake or in my dorm.” Not knowing why, Yang Qingyin’s face turned slightly red.

Fortunately, they were chatting through a video call on the phone, and the subtle changes in her face were not easily noticeable.

“Then I’ll wait for senior’s supreme directive tomorrow.”

“Smooth talker,” a few teasing words from Luo Ziling significantly lifted Yang Qingyin’s spirits.

The two didn’t chat for too long. Fearing her parents might notice something wrong, Yang Qingyin ended the video call early, using the excuse that she was tired and wanted to sleep.

Meanwhile, in the room next to Yang Qingyin’s, Yang Yunlin and Chen Qiaoyu lay in bed, discussing matters concerning their daughter.

“Yunlin, I had a long chat with Yin’er this afternoon and told her some of the situation,” said Chen Qiaoyu, sighing softly, “You should know our daughter doesn’t budge easily. Once she’s set on something, unless she changes her mind herself, nothing anyone says or does will sway her. Your forceful approach is just causing her to rebel.”

“Am I not afraid of our daughter getting hurt?” Yang Yunlin was aware that what Chen Qiaoyu said made sense, but he still insisted on his method, “If we let her continue with her reckless behavior, she might create an even bigger mess. Back then, Ling Ruonan got together with a guy from outside and ended up pregnant before marriage. If this kid follows in his father’s footsteps, then what will Qingyin do? What will we do?”

“I’m afraid of that too,” Chen Qiaoyu said with a downcast mood, “At their age, it’s all too easy for boys and girls to have such incidents.”

“That’s why I’ve sent a few people to keep an eye on them at school.”

“Will that be of any use?” Chen Qiaoyu asked softly.

Yang Yunlin was silent for a while and then shook his head with a rueful smile, “It really might not work.”

“Then why still do it?” Chen Qiaoyu glared at her husband, “You can imagine what kind of reaction our daughter will have if she finds out about this. She might even break off ties with the family one day.”

“If she does, she will lose everything.”

“Do you think she would care about what the family can give her?”

Yang Yunlin fell silent.
