Chapter 4 – As for what she would do in the future, she would decide later after the upcoming disaster was averted. (1)
Although Mr. Song didn’t have any feelings towards the original Ruan Xia, he was never stingy. At the very least, when it came to materistalic things and creature comforts, he never treated her unfairly. He didn’t have any opinions about the original Ruan Xia’s extravagant lifestyle either.
Ruan Xia had gotten her driver’s license during college. Later, she brought a used car. Although she wasn’t as skilled as an experienced driver, she had no problem driving on the road. The original Ruan Xia owned a BMW X5. As Ruan Xia sat down in the car, she guessed that this car model was the best available one. A new car was probably more than 100,000 yuan higher than a used car. Sure enough, this car was very different from her old one.
On her drive to the Ruan’s, she used the time to think about the novel characters’ relationships.
The author hadn’t written much about Mr. Song in the novel, but there was enough written for her to know that he was a successful person. Mr. Song’s parents had died when he was young. He didn’t have many relatives left.
Actually, in the novel, after he had died, the original Ruan Xia had inherited everything and should have had enough money for the rest of her life. However, after Mr. Song had died, a crisis erupted in his company, and the company went into debt. The original Ruan Xia didn’t know how to manage a business at all. She went through half a year of struggling, but she didn’t have the power to reverse her desperate situation. By the end, the mother and child were left with two houses and a car.
From the viewpoint of Ruan Xia, who had been struggling to remain above the poverty line before she transmigrated, having two houses should have been enough for the mother and son to live quite well if they weren’t wasteful. After all, the cost of houses wasn’t low. If they rented out one of those houses, they would have enough to cover their living expenses.
But, what kind of person was the original Ruan Xia? She was a femme fatale type. With her beauty and ambition, she wouldn’t be happy only having those two houses. And so, she wanted to find another ATM. When she went traveling to relieve her boredom, she met a widower, who fell in love with her at first sight. She stoked the flames, and the two of them seemingly just clicked. They started dating. The man did have sincere feelings for the original Ruan Xia and said he wanted to marry her. At this point, the original Ruan Xia reached her goal. Although her first husband had died, she found another ATM.
The original Ruan Xia could have been forthcoming with that man, but she wasn’t. She even thought her son would be a hindrance. She wouldn’t let anyone ruin her plan and her lifestyle, including her son. Thus, she did something awful. She had a foreigner college classmate, who hadn’t gotten pregnant two years into her marriage. It was discovered that the man was infertile. So, the original Ruan Xia contacted her college classmate and said she would give her son to her. But, there was a condition. She didn’t want her son looking for her in the future. This suited her classmate perfectly, and she immediately agreed.
Father Ruan and Mother Ruan were very fond of their grandson, so the original Ruan Xia made up an excuse. She told them that Mr. Song had a younger sister that was living abroad. So that the child could grow up in the best environment, she was sending him abroad to live with his aunt.
At first, Father Ruan and Mother Ruan believed the original Ruan Xia’s lie. However, as more time went on, they started to suspect. If their grandson had really gone abroad, would he have really broken off contact with his grandparents and even his mother?
But, even if they stopped believing their daughter, there was nothing they could do. The original Ruan Xia ignored them most of the time.
The original Ruan Xia was someone that had easily give away her son for her own convenience. Saying she was devoid of a conscience was an understatement. Ruan Xia thought; no other individual would do something like this. There was a moral baseline, and the original Ruan Xia had gone past it.
