Chapter 99
99 Unity?
Kyle opened his eyes.
Dylan jumped down the military vehicle and looked around. They were in some kind of plains with several giant mutated insects and other giant mutated wild animals were looking in their direction from a distance.
“Meow...”
Jake stretched his hand and looked around. He pursed his lips when he saw a lot of giant mutated animals nearby. “So, is it time to make a move?”
“No.”
Kyle swept his gaze across the other groups.
As it turned out, everyone was also contemplating whether they should make the first move or just wait for other groups.
After all, they didn’t want to be the meat shield for other groups.
“There are not too many giant mutated animals here.” Jake rubbed his chin. Those in front of him were either some giant mutated squirrels, giant mutated beavers, and giant mutated rabbits.
.....
There might be others too.
His biology was not too good considering that he loved to sleep in class, so Jake was not entirely sure the names of some animals.
“Meow?”
Kate peeked her small head out of the jacket and looked at Kyle, who was standing motionless in his place.
Kyle tapped Kate’s head lightly. “Stay inside, don’t go out.”
“Meow.”
Not wanting to disturb Kyle when he was fighting, Kate snuggled into Kyle’s jacket once more. Anyway, she could still peek from time to time if she wanted to from here.
One more thing...
She could actually ‘see’ them through those white and black dots as they formed human or animals’ shape. Without her being able to see them directly, this was technically the only way for Kate to truly be able to see them.
And this ability of hers just made her feel a bit more perplexed.
‘Does other healers also experience something like this?’
This was what Kate wanted to know the most, but she didn’t try to ask because it would be too difficult. She simply stayed silent and watched it from inside. Anyway, she will just try to recognize which one of them was her allies...
Uh, it was difficult.
Aside from the shape being humans, Kate honestly didn’t know which one of them were Dylan and Jake.
Drap! Drap! Drap!
As these people were all still hesitating with each other, the giant mutated animals were the first to make their moves. They rushed over like a horde towards this group of people without any intention to stop in the slightest bit.
Neither one of them moved.
They were with the thought that others will be the first to make a move instead of them.
Still, some people were readying their abilities to block the horde should it be necessary. But they definitely wouldn’t help the others.
“This...” Jake frowned. His fingers were itching to make a move, but he could see the calm expression on Kyle’s face.
For the past week, they had undergone training on their own, so they could exert their abilities within moments. Even the beasts were close enough to them, they would have enough time to react.
Now, the question is...
Who will be the first to make a move?
“Damn it!”
Following a curse, a member from the Sunshine Group raised her hand and a blue colored shield covered everyone from Sunshine Group. It seemed that she was already impatient enough when she saw the giant mutated beasts were getting close.
“What’s the use of shield?” A man from Rodent Group snorted and waved his hand.
Flames appeared on the ground to form a line and effectively killing those giant mutated animals.
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be able to stop all of them as some of them were more resistant to fire. And the fire that the man from Rodent Group used was not so lethal that it could burn through their thick skin immediately.
Some giant mutated animals still pounced over.
Bang!
Another person from Rodent Group stepped forward and blocked with his hand. It seemed that he must have an enhancement strength or something like that because his movements were indeed really good.
Splash! Splash!
Some of the giant mutated animals clashed towards the Sunshine Group’s shield.
The other woman frowned and stretched her hand as earth spikes formed around her and shot towards the animals, killing them in one big move.
It looked quite spectacular.
On the other side, Petra Group only had one person stepped forward. He stretched his hand and the plants around him moved. Even though there has been mutation towards animals, thankfully the plants all around the world were mostly normal.
They might have been affected one way or another, but they were still categorized as normal.
Anyway, with the power of wood element, it was entirely possible for them to control the plant, making them grow and extend.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
These giant mutated animals fell down one by one and then earth spike shot up from below.
Jleb! Jleb!
Blood splattered.
These few people were using their abilities effectively, making sure that they could defeat these giant mutated beasts without using too much of their abilities.
On Kyle’s side, only a few giant mutated animals were getting close to them. Without the need of Jake and Dylan to do anything, these few giant mutated animals were burned to ash directly.
Their cores also disappeared swiftly.
“You’re faster now and your range is a bit further than before.” Jake was astonished. Just what kind of training that Kyle had to make him advance so fast like this?
“It’s your turn next. It’s just a warm up, so don’t use so much of your energy.”
“I know.” Jake grinned and swiftly raised his hand. Now that he had been suppressed by his mother so much, he realized that for people like him, the smaller the items they controlled, the more concentration they need but it also cost lesser energy.
Thus, he was learning how to control a little bit in order to converse his strength.
After all, his mother would never let him off halfway and would make sure that the two of them were dead tired before stopping.
Even he sometimes wondered why did his mother so energetic and strong like that.
Several short metals spears were formed around Jake. They were much smaller than before, but the tip was still as sharp as before.
Swish!
Jleb! Jleb!
Several giant mutated animals were killed instantly. These giant mutated animals were clearly not a match against their elemental abilities that had reached rank 4. Not only rank 4, it didn’t seem that it was possible for them to withstand facing those at lower ranked.
These giant mutated animals were all still of lower rank.
It was easy to deal with them.
“It’s done.” Dylan glanced at the other sides and saw that the other people had also finished their part. They technically only attacked and dealt with the giant mutated animals that were attacking them.
As for the giant mutated animals that attacked others?
Sorry, we’re not paid to protect you, so you have to deal with them by yourself.
The sense of unity between these four groups were basically nonexistent as it could be seen very clearly from the way they dealt with the giant mutated animals.
“Alright, shall we begin walking?” Jake asked while he watched the others busy gathering the crystals. Some of their members seemed to be of space element as he or she were the one collecting the crystals.
Kyle narrowed his eyes.
He could remember that previously, Little Kitty had to touch these crystals to put them into her space. But after she had upgraded to rank 4, she could basically add the items around her into her space without coming into contact with them.
It seemed that advancing to rank 4 was harder than he thought.
At the very least, for those who didn’t’ advance to rank 4 during the second red rain, they were all now struggling.
But time will definitely tell when they would eventually rank up.
“Let’s go.” Those from Rodent Group had already finished dealing with the giant mutated animals and already felt somewhat impatient.
It was time to move.
Petra Group and Sunshine Group had also finished their battle.
They looked at each other warily and began to walk in the direction of the granary.
In any case, they knew that they were all going in the same direction. However, they refused to walk with other groups.
.....
The sense of distrust was very great.
“Tsk, tsk, I thought that there will be some foolish people who will trust others.” Jake clicked his tongue.
“Those who can survive for 3 weeks in this place are definitely not some stupid people. Those who dared to trust strangers easily will die first.” Kyle was calm.
“I see. That makes sense.”
“Additionally, many people will rather trust their teammates rather than strangers whom you met for the first time. At the very least, your teammates are someone whom you trusted at a certain degree.”
