The Unexpected Rise Before My Exit from the Entertainment Industry

Chapter 57: Remarks

Chapter 57

Li Yao had never thought that Qin Wei would call Shen Kai "brother" one day.

Were they that intimate? Even when they were dating back then, Li Yao had never heard Qin Wei call him anything other than Shen Kai.

And they didn't even date for that long...

How could they become so intimate again after being apart for so long?

Could it be...?

Li Yao asked her:

"You're not still in contact with him, are you!?"

Qin Wei asked back:

"Should I be in contact with him?"

Her brain must really be damaged...

"Why don't you search for it..."

After saying that, Li Yao focused on driving and didn't say another word.

Qin Wei opened up the search engine and typed in "Shen Kai song".

She flipped through the results but only found a director with the same name but different surname, and a 58-year-old male professor of veterinary internal medicine at an agricultural college who had the exact same name.

"Probably not him..."

Qin Wei murmured to herself, envisioning the original owner dating the professor. She found it offensive to both parties.

"Ugh..."

Qin Wei shook her head, hoping these strange images would quickly leave her mind.

Could she be on the wrong track?

Qin Wei suddenly remembered that Shen Qingqing had worked with him before and spoke very highly of him. If she had searched for "Shen Qingqing" instead, she would have naturally found the actor Shen that she had worked with.

"Shen Qingqing, known for her work in Fire Line, starring: Shen Kai, Shen..."

Qin Wei realized why she couldn't find anything. His name was Shen Kai, and "brother" was just how Shen Qingqing addressed him.

"Shen Kai, huh..."

Qin Wei clicked her tongue, blaming herself for not looking into it more carefully earlier. That's why she made such an embarrassing mistake.

"I should pay more attention in my next life," she thought to herself.

"Remember now?"

Li Yao glanced at her.

Qin Wei was afraid Li Yao would think there was really something wrong with her brain, so she casually brushed it off and opened Shen Kai's Wikipedia page to study up-

"Shen Kai, graduate of the Shanghai Film Academy's acting program in 20xx, up-and-coming young actor, known for his roles in..."

It listed all the works he had been in, awards he had won. Qin Wei had seen some of them, but her impression of him was limited to "that actor is quite handsome".

He had shot some commercials and MVs before college because of his good looks. Now 10 years after his debut, he had many noteworthy works under his belt and was a well-deserved "Best Actor".

In the past decade, he had acted in movies and plays, released two albums, held two concerts, but only acted in one TV series.

After that, many TV series had invited him, but he had rejected them all. Nobody knew why he never acted in another TV series after that one.

And the name of that one TV series was Xia Yu.

Qin Wei was taken aback. Could it be...

She clicked in and the cast list had her name, Qin Wei as Lin Yu, and Shen Kai as Zhao Wuxia, first.

"Qin...Qin Wei as Lin Yu, Shen Kai as Zhao Wuxia...Oh my gosh...I acted with him before..."

After saying this, Li Yao laughed loudly and took the chance to mock her relentlessly:

"Well, well! What's so shocking about acting together! You two even secretly dated behind your agents' backs! Your love was legendary! Acting together...that's nothing! You're too modest!"

Even as an observer, Qin Wei could sense Li Yao's resentment.

Although they didn't announce it publicly back then, it was clear Shen Kai was the original owner's ex-boyfriend.

But what did this have to do with her? Sure, Shen Kai was good-looking, but he wasn't her type...

Qin Wei held her forehead. She now understood the original owner's past was also her past. So even if she didn't actually do those things herself, she had to bear responsibility for many of them...

She wondered how many more surprises or shocks from the original owner's life were still in store for her.

Thinking back on the "Shen Kai song" slip she made on the show earlier, and everyone's reactions, she finally understood why they were so surprised. She wanted to tell her past self to "be more careful in the next life".

Just thinking about it made her head wound start hurting again:

"I really can't remember anything. Let's move on, Li Yao. Didn't you always say we should move on?"

Seeing that Qin Wei's head really was hurting, Li Yao didn't continue to purposefully vex her. After getting off the highway, he drove straight to the hospital to get her checked out further.

...

Since the show was covering all medical expenses, Li Yao booked appointments at the best private hospital in the capital. He didn't think about saving the show any money and got Qin Wei the best of everything, with staff personally taking care of her from entry to exams, saving time and energy.

Some results came back the same day, others required waiting until the next day. But after the exams, the doctor said there were no issues. The wound was quite severe and needed careful recuperation. Once it healed, she could come back for an assessment on potential scarring.

Li Yao was very concerned about this and asked many detailed questions.

Qin Wei sat bored to tears, constantly nodding off.

Her phone buzzed with a WeChat message from someone:

[Changming: Is your injury serious?]

Who was this?

Qin Wei was confused and flipped through their chat history, but there was nothing.

This was the original owner's phone all along, everything was still on it, including chat history. Either the original owner had deleted things, or they simply never chatted.

Regardless of who it was, messaging with no greeting upfront meant it must be someone the original owner knew well.

She typed out "Who are you?" but hesitated before sending it and deleted the words without replying anything.

In her contacts list, everyone was listed by their full name and company, even Li Yao. Only this "Changming" was neither in a family group nor had a descriptive handle—it was a nickname given by the original owner.

Changming, meaning "river of stars".

These were the respective nicknames of the male and female leads in the TV drama Xia Yu that she had acted in. Plus, this person's WeChat ID was "kkshen1210"—birth date, nickname, last name, everything matched. It was Shen Kai for sure.

Xia Yu was the work that defined their relationship. So the contact name Shen Kai had for her was probably "Star River"!

They already broke up!! Why didn't the original owner block him!? At least change the contact name!! Could the original owner really be that lovesick!! You're broken up!! Qin Wei, get a grip!!!

"Ugh...inauspicious. I'll change it."

Qin Wei muttered to herself and then changed his contact name.

...

Half an hour had passed and Shen Kai's phone screen didn't light up once.

Silence. Just silence.

"Mr. Kai, we're starting!"

A crew member called out. Shen Kai had no choice but to put his phone down and go do his job first.

An hour went by.

"Cut! Great!"

They finished one take and Shen Kai came off set to rest. He hurriedly asked his assistant to bring him his phone and turned on the screen—nothing.

Shen Kai's brow furrowed as he opened WeChat. The account labeled "Star River" still hadn't replied to him.

He tapped in. His lone message sat at the top of the screen:

"Is your injury serious?"

It was only five words, but it had taken Shen Kai several days of effort!
