Chapter 391 - What Will Happen?
Long Yuhan's funeral was an intimate affair. The news was released the morning after he died but no one was allowed to join the funeral except for the intimate family.
Zhenyi wasn't allowed to join. Not because the police had restricted her movement and she couldn't attend but because Long Jie refused to let her attend it. She could have taken permission from the authorities as such a tragedy had happened but Long Jie told her that it was not right for a pregnant woman to attend the funeral. It was superstitious as hell but she agreed in the end because he easily got worried these days.
So, he went to fulfil his duties and she stayed in the penthouse. No one asked questions as to why his wife was not with him. Even if they had, he wouldn't have told them the truth. They had decided to keep her pregnancy news hidden until the case was over.
Two weeks passed and it was the day of the court hearing. She was dressed as she usually did. Just Because she had a court hearing would she dress less extravagant? Not at all!
She was wearing a loose beige long dress and an oversized long coat. In her second trimester of pregnancy, she only had her boobs to prove that she was pregnant, no bump or whatsoever.
Her doctor claimed that it was normal for some women to not have a very apparent baby bump even in the second trimester. As much as she was excited to have a baby bump, she knew how unsafe it was for her. It was not easier for her to hide this information but she and her husband did a good job at this.
She heard someone opening the bedroom door and turned to find her well dressed hot husband coming her way. When he glanced at her clothes, he scowled. "Why are you wearing heels? Did you not complain last night how your feet were hurting?"
"I just wanted you to massage my feet. It didn't hurt that bad," Zhenyi said with a smile. She hugged him, rubbing her face against his chest. "Sometimes, I want extra love and care."
"Of course, you do," Long Jie said. He hugged her in his arms. He didn't feel even a tiny bit angry that his wife made him massage her feet for two hours straight just because she wanted some extra love and care. He knew how difficult it had been for Zhenyi to adjust to the sudden change in their life. But she was trying a lot. There were sometimes when she couldn't handle her erratic emotions. She would shout. Fight with him. Other times, she would bury her head in his arms and cry for an hour straight. He would always prefer her angry mood to her crying sessions.
His Cat eyes never cried but the pregnancy hormones were making her do things she never did like demanding extra care and love. She would wreak havoc if he didn't give her time.
Some days she would demand that he cook for her because she was craving something cooked by him. And how could he cook? He was a mess in the kitchen just like her. But he tried. And whatever disaster he cooked, she would eat with a wide smile. And that wide smile of her compelled him to learn cooking for her. And now he could cook some simple dishes that didn't need a lot of science and logic.
"How are you feeling today?" Long Jie asked. Last few months, she had lost way too much weight. And now she was slowly gaining it. Still, it looked like she was malnourished.
"I'm feeling sleepy," Zhenyi murmured. "I couldn't sleep well last night. Right now, I just want to sleep. I don't want to walk. Don't want to go out of the house. Don't even want to talk to some people. Surely, don't want to look at those sickening law protectors."
Suddenly, Long Jie laughed. You see, it wasn't easy for him to adjust to this Zhenyi. This always tantrum-throwing Zhenyi was unknown to him. And did he mention overly clingy too?
"Baby, let's get it over with," Long Jie said as she wrapped his arms around her shoulders and walked out of the building where a car was waiting for them.
"Jie, what will happen today?" Zhenyi asked him in a soft voice as they sat inside the car.
"What will happen but your husband bringing you home?" Long Jie asked back making her smile a bit. "What are you worried about, Zhenyi? You don't trust your family?"
"It's not like I don't trust my family," Zhenyi said, looking at him. "I know you all are doing everything it takes to bring me home. But you should know that the enemy is not someone weaker. He had this planned for a long time. He will not leave without a fight."
"Don't worry, Zhenyi. You have us. Nothing will happen to you," Long Jie said.
"What I am worried about is not me but our baby. He has yet to come to this world and is facing problems because of us," Zhenyi expressed ber concerns. " What if I had to go back to jail again? How will we hide my pregnancy?"
"What is the need of hiding the pregnancy now?" Long Jie questioned. "You already crossed the first trimester. The doctor said if nothing went wrong in the first trimester, your pregnancy wouldn't be as difficult. We can finally tell the news to everyone."
"Jie, I refuse to believe that everything will sort out easily today. Something will surely go wrong," Zhenyi said, expressing the fear in her heart. "I'm scared for the unforeseen circumstances. Let's not disclose the news yet. I don't trust anyone."
"Don't stress. Everything will be fine," Long Jie said, rubbing her back. "I will make sure nothing goes wrong. I will protect you and our baby."
When Zhenyi was thinking that she and her baby were the targets, the enemy had long changed his target. Even he knew that putting Zhenyi in jail wouldn't solve anything.. So, he moved to the next prey.
