Chapter 383 - Unedited
Inside the office of the Commissioner of Police, a middle-aged man was sitting on the chair. Apart from him, there was two men present there, one was quietly occupying the chair in front of him, and another was standing to receive the order.
"Please call officer Zheng right now!" The commissioner was beyond angry this time. He could not believe that things like this could happen with their department. He was ashamed to even show his face to the seniors.
"Is everything alright sir?" The man who was standing asked in concern. He had a bad habit of sucking up to his seniors. And he was doing the same this time too but too bad, the commissioner was not in a condition to hear him
"Are my words not clear?!" Tan Qin, the police commissioner asked, his nose flaring up in anger. He wouldn't tolerate one more disobedient officer no matter how capable they were.
"I will call officer Zheng Right now!!" Poor man ran for his life. He didn't want to get demoted.
Running outside, he began to look for officer Zheng and when someone told him that the latter was having lunch in the cafeteria, he reached there and informed him while panting that the Commissioner was asking him to report right now.
"Alright, I will take a look," Officer Zheng said as he left the untouched food there and headed towards the Commissioners office. Although he was pretty confused with the sudden call, he still didn't say anything. He was too busy with Xin Zhenyu case and other personal stuff to care about anyone else.
"You called me?!" He voiced out as soon as he entered the office.
Never had he thought that he would be answered with a thud. Looking at the source of the sound, he saw a file smacked on the wooden desk.
"Look at it and answer it yourself!". Instead of commissioner Tan, officer Wang answered as the former was busy firing glares at him.
Obviously, he slowly opened the file. His guess that it had something to do with the Xin Zhenyi case wasn't wrong. It indeed has everything to do with that case.
" This…"Officer Zheng had no words to say right now. Hell, he hadn't even thought about this.
"Will you tell me, my good officers, why you called Xin Zhenyi on the night of the blast?!" Commissioner Tan asked him in a loud voice. He was not holding back his anger. This case was already so messy and his officers had to go and make it easier.
Thankfully, Officer Wang took over the lead of this meeting now as he said," According to the report we received, she received the last call from you before going to Du Zheng's Villa."
He was obviously asking Officer Zheng why they were not informed. Even when interrogating Zhenyi, he was raised against her. He still couldn't understand if he was against Zhenyi or not.
"Do you know how messy this case has become?" Officer Wang voiced out. "Our department's regulation is at risk. Thank heavens and these bigshots that the media has yet to know about this case!"
Xin Yichen and Long Shaoming had done a pretty good job at sealing the information. No one except for a handful of people knew that Xin Zhenyi was in jail. If the media were to know of this…
No one dared fathom what would happen then…
There would be journalists swarming outside the gate of the police station. People's eyes would be on them.
"If the news went out, it would be the most high profile case of the country!" These words spoken by Officer Wang were not incorrect. Perhaps, the most high profile might be an understatement. " Will the media and the party in power gawking at you like an eagle spare us? What will we do? Are we already under less stress already?!"
It was not easy and simple to put someone like Xin Zhenyi in jail. She was the richest woman in the country, if not the richest person. Her connections were not limited to the business sector too. She had a very close connection with the government too. Her grandfather had been president of the country for more than one term. She was Xin Yichen's only heir, one of the most feared men in the whole country. And not to forget, Long Jie's wife. The man didn't need an introduction to define him. He was a brand of his own.
"I know it was my mistake…" Officer Zheng was ready to admit his fault. His hate for Zhenyi caused this problem. He accepted it.
"Now spill the beans…"
"Three years ago, I was sent to deal with a gang who were directly linked with women traffickers. They would kidnap girls and sell them at higher prices in other countries," Officer Zheng begin narrating the event of what happened three years ago. "Although we managed to catch the criminals, we still couldn't catch their mastermind." He sound still offended about this. "We have saved more than a hundred girls back then… I was injured then as I was disguised as one of the traffickers…"
He paused for a minute, remembering that particular day, "A girl of not more than fifteen years old saved my life." Even if he wanted to, he could never forget this memory. "She was the only girl who wasn't freed in the end."
Both Officer Wang and Commissioner Tan were listening to his story and wondering where he was taking them to.
"When I was freeing all those girls, I still remember how she shook her head at me and had taken steps back, saying she couldn't go with me. I was startled. And why wouldn't I be? Those people tried those girls very cruelly. How could one not want to leave them?"
From the look on Du Zheng's face, it was estimated that he still regretted that moment.
"I tried persuading her but she didn't agree with me. I still felt that my persuasion wasn't enough…"
Keeping aside guilt, for now, he continued," The gangsters had gotten wind that someone was acting as a mole inside them, giving the information out. So, I was given orders to take out all the girls that night when the gang members were distracted. It wasn't easy but I managed to do so. Once again, I attempted to convince the girl and again she refused."
"I couldn't leave a vulnerable and such a young girl like her there alone. I tried and tried and tried yet I failed in the end. I couldn't put the lives of hundreds at risk for her alone. However, I still left my number with her, asking her to call me if she ever needed help."
Looking at the two men in his front he said, "That girl is my regret, Sir. It was her who technically saved me and all those girls. Yet, I couldn't save her life. That girl was no one else but Du Yue Ling. One of the people who is said to be dead in the bomb blast caused by Xin Zhenyi."
"How is this story connected with this attack and your apparent lie?" Officer Wang asked him, still not being able to connect the dots.
"In all those years, she only called me twice," Officer Zheng said. She refers to Yue Ling here. " One time last year….that time she was quite scared and begged me to save Xin Zhenyi. I was confused...I asked her where she was. Clearly to tell her that I will come and take her out. but she told me that she would be put in danger along with me if he came to save her. I didn't know how Xin Zhenyi was back then. It was only when President Xin of XC was said to be injured in a blast, I found out who the girl was talking about."
"On the night of the blast at Du Zheng, the girl contacted me again. This time begging her to save her. Unfortunately, I was out of the city on a mission...I couldn't help her even if I wanted to," Officer Zhang mumbled. "So, I called Xin Zhenyi and asked her to save her. In return, I will owe her a favour."
"And what did she ask you in return?"Officer Wang asked, quite curiously.
Zheng Han paused for a moment before saying, "Breaking up with my ex-girlfriend. She and Xin Zhenyi are cousins."
After hearing the whole story, the other officers had a look.of bitterness on their faces. One of them asked, "Do you know what the real identity of the girl named Yue Ling was?"
"What?" He asked in hesitation.
"Xin Yichen's long lost daughter!!!" Commissioner Tan said out loud, shocking a certain person.
"Are you sure?" Officer Zheng still asked. "Just because the girl is said to be the long Lost daughter of Xin Yi Chen, it still didn't mean that Xin Zhenyi didn't kill the people and blast the property."
"No feminine remains were found at the crime scene. If the girl had burned in the fire, we would have at least found something? She was not there at all!" This was what they only found recently.
"What do you mean?!!".
"It means she could be alive!!!"
