Chapter 47 (My Best Friend Had A Thing for Me) Gu Kai and Zheng Kai’s Past
Chapter 47 (My Best Friend Had A Thing for Me) Gu Kai and Zheng Kai’s Past
As Chen Wanxin’s dancing team and Zhao Yuan’s basketball team had been built up, Chen Wanxin invited all her team members and all the members of Zhao Yuan’s team to have a party tonight. Everybody was excited upon hearing this suggestion and readily agreed. The three boys from Dorm No.216 enjoyed singing and drinking and could not wait to start the party and impress everyone. Zhao Yuan managed to invite another person to this party. He believed that this person’s coming would pleasantly surprise everyone.
Despite the complicated relationships between the guys of Dorm No.216 and the girls of Dorm No. 213, they never felt awkward playing together. All the girls of Dorm No. 213 would go to the party. Zhao Yuan also dragged Lin Wenxi, who was not on his basketball team, out of their dorm to join this party.
Zhao Yuan said, “You should go out to play. You read that piano score every day. If you continue to do that, you’ll get moss growing on you.” Lin Wenxi said, “I won’t join any contest unless the trophy is a piano.”
Zhao Yuan found this hilarious and sighed secretly, “This Lin Wenxi is indeed childish. Credits are much more valuable than a piano.” He said, “Fuck the piano. Forget about it now. I’ll buy you a piano in the future!”
Lin Wenxi clapped his hands and asked gleefully, “When?” Zhao Yuan replied with a smile, “When you get married.” Lin Wenxi grumpily turned his face away.
Gu Xi happened to hear that. He pettishly shook Zheng Kai’s arm and said in a sweet voice, “Kaikai, I want a piano too.”
Zheng Kai was rendered speechless and used his thumb to poke Gu Xi’s head. He sighed, “Alas, can you just try to act normally?”
“I’m acting normally now. Haven’t you gotten used to me? Don’t they say that living things can always manage to adapt themselves to circumstances?” Gu Xi blinked his eyes and said smilingly.
“Living things can change the circumstances as well,” said Zheng Kai.
“Come on, let’s see whether you can change me. Change me now! Big Xixi, come join me!” Gu Xi grabbed Zheng Kai’s thick arm and pulled himself up. Some substitutes of the basketball team sneered at him, but he did not care about it at all.
Zheng Kai felt really helpless.
Back in the Green Fields Military Academy, Zheng Kai had always been a silent boy, except at the monthly parties of the school. One night, when he walked past a public washroom, he happened to see a group of boys bully a good-looking boy. That boy just refused to back down no matter how the other boys abused him. Such a thing could be seen from time to time in the Green Field Military Academy, and most people in this school, including Zheng Kai, would never interfere in such a situation. Nevertheless, he was tipsy that day and somehow decided to help the good-looking boy out. He quickly knocked all the bad guys down and saved that boy. That boy was Gu Xi. At that time, he was the top chef of his class, and the boys loved his dishes very much and wanted him to cook for them privately. Gu Xi did not want to defy the school rules and refused them. As such, they dragged him into the public washroom to pour cold water and even urine on him.
Since that night, those bad boys had held a grudge against Zheng Kai. Althought they could not defeat him in a fight, they could make all kinds of troubles for him. At such times, Gu Xi would always step forward bravely to help Zheng Kai. Despite that, most of the time, both of them would still get framed by the bad boys and punished by the school. As Zheng Kai worked diligently day and night and had to receive harsh physical training every day, he fell ill and did not have a good appetite. Gu Xi, who was younger that Zheng Kai but was in a higher grade, decided to stay down this year to take care of Zheng Kai. He lived together with Zheng Kai in the school hospital and prepared medicine and food for him every day for three consecutive months. Gu Xi was tired out and fell ill during these three months, but he never stopped taking care of Zheng Kai.
On a rainy night, when Zheng Kai suddenly took a turn for the worse and needed blood transfusions, he accompanied the school doctor to go to another county several kilometers away to fetch the blood that Zheng Kai needed. On their way back, their car crashed. He took off his coat to protect the blood freezer and took a taxi to deliver the blood to the hospital. When he came back, he fainted and fell to the ground after giving the blood storage box to the doctors at the gate of the hospital. When Zheng Kai viewed the video footage from the security cameras in the hospital, he saw Gu Xi, who was slender and wore only some light clothes, stumble all the way to the hospital in the cold winter rain while tightly holding a blood storage box. Since then, Zheng Kai had always considered Gu Xi his best friend.
Zheng Kai recovered very well after the three months. Not long after that, he won a martial arts contest of the school and made great achievements in a military training. Because of his increasing reputation, those bad boys dared not to bully him anymore.
Beyond Zheng Kai’s expectation, he gradually discovered that his best friend Gu Xi seemed to have a thing for him. The other boys in the school also discovered this and looked at them differently. Zheng Kai did not want to lose this good friend, but he still tried to talk with Gu Xi about this matter. Every time they talked about this, Gu Xi would end up crying like a baby. As such, Zheng Kai decided to keep Gu Xi at a distance and stopped talking about this matter unless Gu Xi did something out of line. Zheng Kai was always a straight guy and disliked guys who were sissy. He had never expected that one of his best friends would have turned out to be sissy.
When the dancing team, which had 12 finalists and 3 substitutes, and the basketball team, which had 5 finalists and 5 substitutes, gathered at the gate of the university, Chen Wanxin was surprised to find out that there were 27 of them.
“Oh, Wenxi is here too. And hey, Gu Xi. Do you guys come to boost our morale or something?” Chen Wanxin grabbed Gu Xi’s arm and asked. Gu Xi wiggled his body and said, “No, please don’t touch me!”
Upon seeing that, everyone burst into laughter. Suddenly, they heard a loud female voice. “Nannan, why didn’t you invite me to this big party? How can you do this to me?” Wang Zhengjuan said and came over to grab Zhou Nannan’s arm. Zhou Nannan was startled but then when she found out that no one was looking at them differently, she felt relaxed. Wang Zhengjuan gently poked Zhou Nannan’s forehead with a finger and said, “Relax. It’s not a big deal. Don’t you see that An’an and Xiaoman always go hand in hand when they go shopping together. Don’t be so sensitive!” Zhou Nannan snorted and could not help but blush.
The group laughed and walked to a karaoke near the university.
As it was the first time Lin Wenxi had come to such a place, he felt somewhat nervous. Shu Xiaoman looked around with interest and then she gently pushed Lin Wenxi while asking, “Wenxi, look at this well-decorated place. Do you think that we can afford playing here?”
Wang Zhengjuan laughed out loud and said, “Don’t worry. It’s my treat!” Upon hearing that, everyone was surprised and shifted their gaze toward Wang Zhengjuan, who was dressed in pure black and looked cool. Chen Wanxin swallowed her words and smirked. After that, she thanked Zhou Nannan with a smile. Zhou Nannan smiled bashfully and said, “That’s alright, as long as you guys can have fun here.” Chen Wanxin felt a little uncomfortable and said, “Look at you. You really consider yourself a hostess to us all.” Zhang An’an echoed and then teased Wang Xiang since he had not offered to pay for this party just now. The girls chatted and giggled.
They went into their karaoke room and got deeply impressed by this well-decorated place.
“This is Rococo style, just like the style of the Palace of Versailles. It’s delicate and exquisite.” Zhou Nannan commented calmly.
Their room was on the top floor of this building. It was the best room in this karaoke. It was about 200 square meters and big enough for more than 50 people. Its ceiling and walls were all covered with exquisite patterns, and the chairs here were all light golden. The mats and cushions inside the room were all beautifully embroidered. Lin Wenxi looked at this place and thought, “If we went dutch here, I would have to ask Wang Xiang to lend me some money.”
