Chapter 57: Calm Before the Storm (2)
Xi Yun was dazed for a moment, before he quickly yelled “yes!” and turned to run back into his house to get what he needed for school tomorrow.
Su Tian grabbed him before he could go and covered his ears as she brought him down the stairs.
Wang Haoxue had been wondering what Su Tian was up to. It was only until she saw Xi Yun enter the room that she realized what was going on. Looking at Xi Yun with a blank expression, she opened her mouth before closing it without speaking.
Su Tian sent Xi Yun to the bathroom to wash up, while Wang Haoxue stood by the door, waiting for the chaotic footsteps to go up the stairs and for the door to open and close.
After witnessing such a thing, Su Tian was afraid that Wang Haoxue would be uncomfortable and wanted to send her back downstairs.
Wang Haoxue declined, but still went out with Su Tian. Looking in the direction of upstairs, she snorted again: “Shameless.”
Walking on the ground those two just walked on, she felt nauseous.
At the door of her house, Wang Haoxue sighed: “Tian Tian, you’re too soft-hearted.”
Su Tian laughed: “Quickly, go inside.”
Wang Haoxue sighed again as she went back into her house. Filled with a new sense of mission, she felt as she was a brave knight protecting their princess.
When Su Tian went back, Xi Yun had already come out of the bathroom. His face had indifference all over it, an emotion unusual for a child of his age. Only when he saw Su Tian did he smile, expressing the innocence of a child.
Su Tian was about to knock on Ms. He’s door, but Xi Yun pulled her away: “Jie jie, Auntie He is already asleep.”
Xi Yun had stayed at their home before. The house had two bedrooms and one living room. Su Tian and He Qingwan each had their own bedroom. Because Xi Yun was twelve now, it wasn’t appropriate for him to stay with either of them. Later, He Qingwan bought an air mattress for him. When he needed it they’d blow it up and put it away when he wasn’t staying over.
Xi Yun helped Su Tian set up the mattress, hemming and hawing.
“Jie jie…”
“Hm?”
“Never mind.”
After a while, he spoke up again: “Jie jie…”
“Speak.”
“……”
After a few more rounds of this, Su Tian finally grew impatient and pulled him over to ask: “Say what you want to say. If you don’t, I won’t want you anymore.”

Xi Yun had already laid down in bed but when he heard this, he opened his eyes, tearing up.
“I heard him and that woman say that once I got married they would kick me out.”
Su Tian froze, not sure how to respond.
Xi Yun: “Before, I was really afraid of this. But, now I’m not scared. I know jie jie will never not want me, right?”
Su Tian took a quiet breath, pinching his face: “Of course not, jie jie likes Xiao Yun the best.”
Xi Yun smiled through his tears, pulling Su Tian’s hand: “Then let’s pinky promise.”
Su Tian played along with the child to finish the childish pinky swear of “promising for a hundred years to never change.” Finally, she was able to coax the naughty boy to be obedient.
She also went to sleep, finally closing her eyes.
Marriage… if it’s marriage… you’ll need a lot of money right…?
