Chapter 30 – Caught a Scam Artist (5)

By now the owner of the toyshop next door had also came out. He was a chubby middle-aged man in his fifties with the last name Zhao. He had a really good temperament and always had a pleasant demeanor.

Uncle Zhao gave He Qingwan a thumbs up, “Yo, sister, your Tiantian was quite impressive. She just came into my shop and asked me – ‘ Uncle Zhao, can I borrowed that U-lock of yours real quick?”. So, I asked her – ‘girl, what do you want that for?’ Your Tiantian replied – ‘Uncle Zhao, I want to catch a scam artist. You just wait and see!’....”

Uncle Zhao has the knack for performance art and was very dramatic in the way he recounted the story. Now, He Qingwan finally realized what was going on.

Smiling, Uncle Zhao turned his head and look, “Ha! I remember this guy. He came to my store to scam me too when my shop first opened up. He made off with $600 of my money!”

By now Su Tian had already dialed the police and reported the incident, provided them with their address, and asked them to come over quickly.

Seeing that Su Tian had called the police, the man was surprised, furious, and worried. He couldn’t kick the door open, so he picked up a chair and smashed it against the door madly.

As he was smashing the door, he also shouted all sorts of threatening words at them and swore that he would kill Su Tian and He Qingwan when he got out.

Su Tian merely giggled as she watched him going ballistic inside the shop and said softly, “Okay, I will be waiting when you get out of jail.”

She smiled, “I am someone who holds grudges. You tried to cheat us out of our money, I am going to send you to jail. If you dare try anything else, I will repay you in ways that are much worse. Feel me to try me if you don’t believe me.”

Su Tian somehow managed to make even the threatening words sound sweet and soft.

Her words weren’t only aimed at the man. The ruckus they had caused had already brought on a group of onlookers. Some of them were passersby and some were neighbors in the surrounding areas or other shop owners.

Su Tian had a pretty good idea what type of person He Qingwan was. She was too easy of a target. She didn’t want her to be scammed again when she wasn’t around.

That was the intended audience of her speech – do not think that they were easy targets just because there was just the two of them.

Looking at Su Tian’s smiling eyes, the man suddenly shuddered. He regretted being too careless; he should have done more research ahead of time.

This girl, she wasn’t an ordinary girl.

Some of those gathered around gave a round of applause, and others were slightly embarrassed. No matter what their thoughts were, all of them had quietly put them in the category of “do not offend.”

When Su Tian return the cell phone back to her mother, she noticed that He Qingwan was looking a little bit off. She asked, “Mom, what is wrong?”

Suddenly, He Qingwan threw her arms around her.

“Tiantian, mom was too useless!”

Su Tian was worried that it was something else. She patted her He Qingwan on her back and, instead of comforting her, said, “That’s alright, Tiantian can protect you.”

He Qingwan busted out laughing and silently made up her mind – she would never let her daughter worry about her again.

One incident like this one would be enough.

Across the street inside Lu’s Walnut Cookies, a boy dashed in frantically, “Sister Zhang! Sister Zhang! That little b*tch called the cops! What are we going to do?!”

Zheng Ke gave him a stare and said, “Would you stop that already? You all stay calm for me. When the cops come, just say that we didn’t know if those are counterfeit. There’s nothing the cops can do.”

Making excuses came easy for those in this line of business.
