Chapter 23 – The Grand Opening (1)
1. Chapter 23 – The Grand Opening (1)
The course schedule was tight for senior high school and the lunch time was fairly limited. Su Tian hadn’t planned on going home for lunch usually.
But today was different, she had struck a deal with Boss Liu and she needed to go home and give He Qingwan a heads up so she could have a cheesecake prepared. If Su Tian told her tonight, He Qingwan would have to pull an all-nighter to fill the order.
The cheesecakes that were in the fridge, well.... She and little cutie had eaten all of them last night and she had brought the only two left to school with her today.
Plus, she wanted to go home and check on little cutie.
In order to save some time, Su Tian borrowed a bicycle from a classmate and reached her building in three minutes.
As soon as the door opened, she heard chuckling sounds from both Ms. He and Xi Yun. Su Tian took off her shoes and walked over to them; she couldn’t help but to roll her eyes to herself.
There was flour, coconut flakes, evaporated milk, milk, and other random ingredients. She figured they were working on some coconut cubes, she just wasn’t sure if they were just about to start or were already done.
The two got flour all over the place, especially Xi Yun. He looked as though he had applied a layer of flour to his face and it was entirely white.
Anyone who didn’t know better would think there were two kids in their house.
Xi Yun quickly jumped up when he saw Su Tian and said shyly, “Jie jie, you are back.”
He Qingwan thought it was odd too, “I thought you said you were going to have lunch at school. How come you are home?”
Su Tian repeated to her how Liu Kaiyan wanted to order cheesecakes from them. He Qingwan’s first reaction was, “Aiya, he’s a classmate of yours, how could you take his money?”
Su Tian sat down on the couch and explained, “If I don’t take his money, it’d seem like he was trying to take advantage of us if he hanged out with me in the future. Oh yeah, mom, is lunch ready? I have to head back to school soon.”
He Qingwan heard that it would affect her relationship with her classmate and with her distraction, that subject was over.
“Yes, it’s ready. I was just about to have lunch with Xiao Yun!”
Su Tian, “What did you make?”
Xi Yun responded right away, “Stewed ribs and rice.”
Su Tian, “......”
They’ve already had ribs for the last two days, why were they having ribs again?
As expected, He Qingwan, feeling a bit awkward, went on explaining, “The store owner of the rib place accidentally grinded his pinky when he was grinding meat so it was just the store owner’s wife right now. I figured I’d buy some more so she could return home earlier to take care of him.”
Su Tian, “Then how about some braised pork ribs and corn soup tonight?”
He Qingwan was worried that Su Tian would be tired of ribs already, but she was happy after she heard that. She brought the food out from the kitchen and the two adults and a child sat down around the dining table to have lunch.
He Qingwan’s cooking was amazing. The rice was stewed to perfection. Each grain was plumped with rich juice from the ribs and taste incredible. Even the ribs were stewed to the point that the bones were crisped and the meat fell apart. With each bite, the marrow would splatter in one’s mouth, amazing beyond words.
