Chapter 2 Awakening
Before long, Adam saw himself in a dark place… it felt like he was floating somewhere, and his body was pretty heavy since he couldn't move or feel anything moving around him. His last memories returned to his mind, and he felt like sighing. He did something good, so he could feel proud of himself… more or less, if only he didn't have second intentions by being so reckless.
"Note to self: the next time you try to be a hero to impress a lady, have a clear plan in mind."
Not like he would have the chance to try something like that… Regardless, like father like son. While Adam couldn't remember much about his old man, he still followed his job and even had a short career like him as well. He probably was proud of him wherever he was… as long as he didn't know what Adam was thinking.
"Despite the fact that I decided to become a firefighter, death always scared me… If I had a body, would I piss my pants off due to fear? Anyway, what is next?"
While a bit afraid, Adam was also quite curious about how the afterlife is. Even if he had second intentions, saving someone's life is a plus on his karma, right? He shouldn't be sent to hell or something similar… while it wasn't much, he did other things as a firefighter to improve his karma. Still, since he was being paid to do all that, perhaps it wouldn't balance things favorably for him.
"That being said… for mom to lose her only child and her husband due to this career, I wonder what she is thinking now…"
Before long, Adam began to feel pretty sleepy while something warm was enveloping him. It didn't seem like something bad, but it was hard to tell since it was dark, and he didn't know how things in the afterlife worked. He tried to fight back, but that sensation of warmth was too strong, to the point that he even felt himself getting stronger as well.
"You have your shortcomings, but your soul is something that I need… you can do this."
Unfortunately, Adam's mind was no longer working properly, so he didn't hear that. Still, perhaps that had been for good. Otherwise, his next steps wouldn't be the same…
"Ah… ah…"
Even with his eyes closed, Adam felt like yawning, but only weird noises came out of his mouth. Were they too… acute? If he had a cold, it sure messed up with his voice. Adam only found shadows around him when he tried to open his eyes. His body also felt a bit hot and wet. Before long, he felt like something was carrying him, and then he was put in a bed.
"Could it be that I didn't die?" Adam thought.
Something was off. If he didn't die, it was weird the fact that he couldn't hear the sound of machines in the hospital. Besides, it would be dangerous for someone to move a wounded patient. In any case, Adam's senses were pretty messed up. Maybe it was due to the blood loss, or perhaps because he slept for a long time. Nevertheless, he eventually found a big hand caressing his head. At least the hand was gentle and soft.
"..."
Adam heard something, but the words seemed weird like they had been silenced by something. He was quite worried, but Adam decided not to react too much. Logic says that when you find a dangerous animal, you should pretend to be dead. That was stupid as hell, but at least the terror won't last for long.
In the end, Adam wanted to believe that he was dreaming… because he understood that he had reincarnated. In the end, the last thing that made him understand that was when his new mother began to feed him. That was really complicated in more ways than one, so Adam tried to fall asleep whenever that happened.
"I feel like I am cheating my mom… I should have phrased this better… Still, did I really reincarnate, or Am I in a coma or something? I was just joking around when I said those things when I died… it would be too lame to look scared at the very end…"
Several days passed, and Adam felt that his vision was getting clearer. If he recalled well, babies only start to see things and open their eyes properly after six months. Still, he wasn't a real baby, so it wasn't surprising that his body worked a bit faster. Regardless, it was weird the fact that he was getting used to that lifestyle… only eating, doing his necessities on his diapers, and then sleeping for more than half of the day.
Still, that made him wonder if he had been revived on Earth. It would be a bit weird… usually, people would be reincarnated in other worlds, but if they had diapers in there… putting that aside, Adam was trying to learn the words of that place. They were too weird to be from Earth. Unfortunately, his mother didn't talk much, and she didn't receive many visits either. For some reason, she rarely leaves the room as well… Nevertheless, after a few days, Adam heard his new name several times and confirmed that he was no longer Adam… but Aion.
Aion was a Hellenistic deity associated with time, the orb or circle encompassing the universe, and the zodiac. The time represented by Aion is unlimited, in contrast to Chronos as empirical time divided into past, present, and future. He is, therefore, a god of the ages, associated with mystery religions relating to the afterlife.
He knew that much since he played a game in the past that had pretty long descriptions of Greek mythology… Still, it was hard to imagine that his name was because of that. Truth be told, he felt that his new name was too grandiose… still, it didn't take long for him to get used to it.
After not so long, Aion began to feel his body changing… his vision suddenly started to get a lot clearer and his body lighter. It was quite a good feeling. Still, it wasn't anything like he felt before… It was like something was cleaning and refreshing him from inside out… However, that was just one of many chances in Aion's body.
Health: 02/02
Mana: 02/02
Stamina: 02/02
"Is this a Jojo reference or a system?" Aion pondered.
That suddenly appeared in his field of vision alongside a circle of thirteen spheres. They had different colors as well, and when Aion focused his eyes on them, he saw some titles. They were: Paladin, Samurai, Archer, Spearman, Mage, Berserker, Monk, Warrior, Tamer, Ninja, Bard, Priest, Slayer,
It was weird that such a thing only appeared now, but Aion assumed that it was because his existence became more used to that world now that he could see things clearly. He was quite interested in the system, but now he could finally see the room that he was living in with his mother. It seemed to be made of high-quality stones. Everything was connected nicely, and there were no signs of dirt or cracks. Aion could see some high-class furniture around the room, and it looked pretty new…
"I thought that my new mother was a prisoner or something, but maybe her situation is a bit different…" Aion thought.
When he turned his body around, Aion found his mother. She was indeed pretty and quite young. Not illegally young, but she was certain she was at the peak of her life. She wasn't older than twenty… she looked like an angel while sleeping since she had long, blond hair and was wearing a one-piece white dress. Eventually, she woke up and revealed crystal-like blue eyes.
At that point in time, Aion began to wonder… he had been in that world for at least a month. His mother received food in her room, she didn't leave, and he didn't hear any male voices so far… She wasn't in the worst type of prison, but she certainly was a prisoner… Aion was determined to learn why she was in that situation, and in one way or the other, he would unravel that mystery.
