Chapter 23: Monster Tide
Chapter 23: Monster Tide
When the group stepped out of the gate, they were welcomed by a group of trees, some of them broken down, some leaning to the side and even some of them that have been uprooted from the ground.
Additionally, the forest in front of them was eerily silent. It was as if there was not even a single life-form that existed within it.
This made Henry frown. He had already expected that they were in a place that was surrounded by a forest. And, from the fact that they had been attacked by over 500 wild animals, then that implied that the area that they were, was supposed to be an area that was filled with different kinds of life forms.
For predators to exist, there had to be prey. But, during the attack that had been launched on the facility, they had only seen the predators. As for those that were prey, only a few of them had been seen.
Since there was no way that the predators could survive, considering that there were so many of them, without a lot of food, then Henry began wondering if the wild animals which attacked them were really coming from the outside.
Or, could this be a project that have been planned by the facility? After all, they themselves were here against their own will. For that reason, Henry wouldn't be surprised if this facility kept wild animals here as well. After all, there was a laboratory for researching.
The three of them began following the road that laid outside. This was definitely the road that had been used previously by the cars that belonged to the facility.
As the group continued moving, the strange the situation was in Henry's eyes. After all, ever since they had gotten out of the facility, they had not encountered even a single life-form.
Even from all the information that Henry had received from the system about the apocalypse, there was nothing that informed him about such a situation.
Shaking his head, they continued moving. They made sure they were keen, not to be ambushed. Even though they were currently wearing armors that seemed to be invincible, Henry knew that this was not the case.
If they encountered a creature that was above a certain level, then, the armor on their body would be no different from a piece of paper.
Finally, about 1 hour later, Henry and the group got out of the forest. But, what appeared in front of them was something that they had never expected. It was a vast water body.
From this, they could immediately tell that they were on an island. As for the road, it led to a port that was some distance from where they were. It seemed that all the vehicles that were coming to the facility were all brought by the ferry.
As for the reason as to why such a big ferry could not be detected, Henry could already link it to the fact that, this facility was owned by someone or a group of people that belonged to the top of the high class personnel.
The salty scent wafted to their nose. Added to the cool breeze, even though it was still morning, the environment was definitely quite relaxing. This was of course due to the fact that, the group had just come from a chaotic place.
To build the seaport, a huge amount of money had definitely been spent to prepare something like this. After all, the seaport was definitely beautiful, looking at it from a distance.
Henry looked at the port that was a distance away, from a higher point. A remarkable harmony of nature and architecture, this captivating harbor exuded an air of serenity and enchantment. It stood as a masterpiece of beauty, catering solely to the whims of the sea.
Nestled within the embrace of dramatic cliffs, the seaport offered a breathtaking spectacle of sheer natural grandeur. Crystal-clear azure waters gently lapped against a pristine shoreline, revealing a tapestry of white sands that stretched as far as the eye could see.
This would have definitely been a good place to relax while watching the seaport, but things were different now. This was due to the fact that, the sea port was currently empty. There wasn't even a single human present.
How could Henry and the others believe that, the seaport would always be abandoned at night, and there was nobody that was supposed to be in charge of taking care of it?
Just from this, Henry could see that, something strange was going on somewhere. After all, the port didn't even have a single walking person, not to mention even bodies of people or wild animals.
From the information that he had received from the introduction to the apocalypse, he was sure that something like this was not likely to happen.
Since the port was located very close to the forest, then it was obvious that their had to be at least one or two wild animals that attacked it. Additionally, even the water vessels that were present in the sea were supposed to be attacked by the aquatic creatures.
But, looking at them, one could see that they had not been touched. It was as if there was no change that had occurred here.
Henry decided to lead the group into the seaport. He wanted to find a way out of the island, even if he could not find the mystery behind what had happened here.
When they got into the seaport, Henry was sure that there was nobody at all. And additionally, he had noticed that, from all the activities that had occurred here, as well as some of the unfinished food on the tables, it seemed that people had left this place in a hurry.
But, where could they have headed to? After all, at the facility, the number of people didn't increase. It was just within the range that was present on a normal night.
[Be prepared. A monster tide will be coming over in 1 hour. After the monster tide, there will be an update on the apocalypse.]
At that moment, Henry suddenly saw a screen appear in front of him. This was not the screen that belonged to The Soul System. Instead, this was the screen that had appeared previously when he selected his profession.
He wasn't the only one who had received the prompt. Instead, both Sarah and Adam got the same thing. But, the information that was available on the prompt was something that made their heartbeats increase suddenly.
A monster tide? The group couldn't believe what was going to happen. After all, it wasn't long that they had encountered several monsters which had appeared out of nowhere, and launched an attack on them.
But this time, they were being informed that they were going to encounter another attack, that was on a very big scale as compared to the one that they had encountered previously?
Henry had information about a monster tide. Even though it was only during the beginning of the apocalypse, and the strength of monsters that were going to attack was on the rank O level, but the number of monsters that were going to attack this time was not assumable at all.
That's right. This time, the number of monsters that was going to attack them was not a group of unranked monsters. Instead, it was going to be a group of ranked apocalyptic creatures.
Moreover, this group contained even stronger apocalyptic creatures that would have already gotten to the 10th level of Rank O. With their current abilities, this was definitely something that they could not face.
"We only have 1 hour. I think it is better if we stay here. If we want to go back to the facility, we will have to take about an hour to arrive there. And at that time, we will be tired." Adam suggested.
Henry was also having the same thoughts. But, the whole port was definitely going to encounter a large scale attack, since there was a life form that existed here.
Had it not been for the fact that they had come over, then there wouldn't have been any attack that would have been launched here.
[The system suggests that the host should get back to the facility. During that time, when an attack is launched on the facility, the host might get a chance to get some people that might be important in the future.]
Just as Henry was about to reply, another system prompt appeared in front of him. This was a prompt that belonged to The Soul System.
This made Henry hesitate for a moment. After all, for them to get back to the facility, it was definitely going to take them a lot of time. Additionally, the higher the number of people, the higher the number of monsters that were going to lay a siege on them.
But after thinking about it for a while, Henry came to a realization. It was during this attack that he was supposed to use all means possible to level up. Additionally, there were bound to be some people that were going to be able to kill at least 10 apocalyptic creatures.
If he managed to acquire a group of people that was strong enough, then they might be able to get out of the island. Even though the four of them were quite strong, the same couldn't be said in case they encountered a large group of enemies.
"We are going back to the facility. But, we will have to make some preparations first." Henry stated as he looked towards a group of cars. He had decided that it was finally time to start utilizing the full capabilities of the system that had been granted to him.
