Chapter 16: Berserker
Chapter 16: Berserker
"Do you know where the owner of this facility is?" Henry asked as he looked at the lady who was on the ground, panting heavily.
The lady struggled to look up at Henry. Currently, she was completely exhausted after running for a long period of time. When she encountered the wolf, she had managed to strike it, using a knife that was present in the room that she was in.
Thereafter, she ran out of the room as quickly as possible. Thankfully, there were no other wolves around, as they had been attracted by the loud noise that had been created by Henry's fireball.
But, no matter how fast she ran, she couldn't shake off the wolf that was just behind her. In fact, it was actually catching up with her.
Just when she was about to lose her hope, she suddenly saw two people in front of her. And each one of them was armed, and their clothes were stained with blood. It was obvious that they had engaged in a fight before.
At that moment, it didn't really matter to her if what they killed was other humans, or, the wolves. All the same, she decided to head over so that she could at least have a glimmer of hope again.
As for how Henry had easily killed off the wolf, that had indeed surprised her. But, she didn't have much time to think about it when Henry asked her a question.
She struggled to shake her head, as she replied. "I don't know... I, too, was forced to come here. I had no choice..." The lady could immediately tell the reason why Henry had asked that question.
Just like all the other people who were present in the facility, she had already gotten used to deaths. For that reason, she knew that this was a chance for the youths to get out of here.
But of course, that was on the condition that, they were strong enough to get out of here, despite the presence of the wolves.
Henry looked at the lady, who was still lying on the ground. She looked like she was in her mid twenties. Her blonde hair was currently disheveled, while her face was currently pale.
Her green eyes stared at the sky that was still dark, harboring only a few stars. She was quite a beauty indeed, but that didn't matter to Henry.
In the apocalyptic world, Henry wasn't ready to take anyone with him, if there was no need for him to do so. If a person was useless, then he was not going to waste his energy trying to protect that person.
In a world where strength was the king, it was obvious that it was a moment of benefits first.
"Alright then. Adam, let's get going. Your one hour is about to elapse." Henry stated as he turned around, and began walking away.
"Are we leaving her here?" Adam asked as he looked at the lady who was still on the ground. After he received the information that she was just like them, his heart had eased a little, and he no longer abhorred her.
"Unless you don't want me to be your in-law anymore." Henry stated as he continued moving on.
"Hell no!" Adam exclaimed as he hurriedly followed Henry. He entirely ignored the lady, who had already begun panicking, as she struggled to get back to her feet.
After picking up the mutation crystal, Henry and Adam continued moving around. They wanted to continue with their hunt, considering that Adam's one hour had yet to elapse.
"Please help me. I promise that I won't drag you down." The lady stated as she followed both Henry and Adam.
But of course, the duo completely ignored her. None of them cared about what she was saying. So, they continued going around, killing any wolf that appeared in their sight.
As for the lady, she continued following the two of them. She knew that for her to be able to survive, then she had to be closer to the two of them. She was continuously stunned when she saw that the two of could easily handle the wolves that were a nightmare to the others.
She could still remember what happened before. They were still sleeping, when suddenly, noise erupted outside, added to the sound of gunshots.
When they got out, they saw that the security team of the facility was trying to deal with a pack of wolves that was attacking him. As for how they had managed to get through the gate of the facility, that was still unknown.
But, the number of wolves continued increasing. And in no time, they had managed to overwhelm the security team. They tore them apart, killing them gruesomely.
Then what followed next was obvious. The wolves charged into the facility, and began killing any person that they saw.
She had managed to get away because she reacted fast. She entered a room, and stayed in. But, she had never expected that a wolf was going to break the glass window, just to attack her. That was what led to the previous situation.
The sound of echoing growls reverberated through the air, a chilling reminder of the danger that lurked within the facility. But even though, both Henry and Adam never backed down. Instead, they headed in the direction that they heard the sounds.
Henry tightly gripped his trusty sword, its polished blade glinting ominously under the flickering fluorescent lights. The weight of the weapon resonated in his hand, a comforting presence that fueled his resolve.
Even though it was true that he had not trained in the way of a sword, due to the system's ability, it had allowed him to get the basic level skills of being a swordsman, allowing him to wield the sword with unparalleled precision and deadly grace.
Beside him, Adam swung his axe in a sweeping arc, testing its balance. The axe exuded raw power, its sharp, double-edged blade reflecting the fiery determination that burned within Adam's eyes.
His body had still suffered some wounds. But, they were nothing as compared to the wounds that he had suffered previously. Adam's expertise in handling this weapon may not be like that of an expert, but he was continuously improving.
Additionally, Henry had noticed that, it was easy for someone to elevate their skills in terms of handling a weapon after the apocalypse descended. For that reason, he had seen as Adam improved from being a complete noob at handling a battle axe, to becoming an amateur.
As they ventured further into the facility, the deafening sounds of snarls and distant howls intensified, mingling with the smell of fear and blood that hung thick in the air.
Henry and Adam moved swiftly, their senses razor-sharp and eyes scanning the darkness for any signs of movement. The echoing echoes of their breaths filled their ears, heightening their focus and determination.
They were trying to make sure that they didn't encounter several wolves at the same time. Even though it was easy to kill the wolves for them presently, they too were humans and might get tired if they encountered a pack of wolves.
As for the lady who was following behind the two of them, they didn't care about her at all. As long as she didn't do anything that disturbed the two of them, then they would also entirely ignore her.
Suddenly, pairs of glowing eyes materialized in the shadows, accompanied by a threatening growl. Reacting with instinctive precision, Henry lunged forward, his sword slicing through the air with purposeful speed.
The blade met its target flawlessly, severing the beast's aggressive advance and sending it crashing to the ground. He moved swiftly from one wolf to another, his sword slicing through the chaos, his movements fluid and deadly.
Adam, with a primal roar, swung his battle axe in a mighty arc, its formidable blade crashing into the thick fur of a charging wolf. The sheer force of the blow sent the creature sprawling, its pained yelp reverberating through the facility.
Feeding off the adrenaline coursing through his veins, Adam displayed an awe-inspiring blend of strength and agility as he swiftly dispatched each wolf that dared to challenge him.
Side by side, Henry and Adam fought relentlessly against almost a dozen wolves, their weapons weaving a ballet of steel and fury. Their coordination was effortless, their trust in each other unyielding.
With each strike, they pushed back the encroaching threat, battling against the odds with unwavering determination. Due to their increased strength and abilities, they were able to easily handle the wolves. They didn't have to strain themselves, to deal with them.
Finally, as the last wolf fell, the area fell silent. Adam's face was already covered in sweat, his body pulsating with the residual energy of the intense encounter. He was still not used to the intense fight that involved several wolves at the same time.
Henry, on the other hand, was quite relaxed. Not to mention that the sword that he was using was quite light, he didn't need to use much strength when dealing with the wolves. Just simple movements were enough to deal with them.
"Henry, the 1-hour period is over." Adam stated as he wiped off the sweat on his forehead using his left hand that was not holding any weapon.
"Do what you need to do. I will keep watch." Henry stated, as he began moving around, picking the mutation crystals. As for the bodies, they magically disappeared.
Henry really wasn't concerned about the lady who was following them, knowing that he could make the bodies disappear. After all, with the appearance of strange things, something like that was no longer considered strange.
Adam nodded his head before he begun interacting with the screen that had appeared in front of him.
As for the lady, she had managed to recover some of her strength. During this fight, she had made sure to keep her distance. After all, she knew that she was incapable of handling the wolves at all.
Along the way, she had seen the two people collected beads out of the heads of the wolves that they had killed. To show that she was not useless, she went ahead and moved towards one of the dead wolves.
Gritting her teeth, she hardened her heart as she began trying to look for the bead in the wound that had been created on the head of the wolf.
On the other hand, at this moment, Adam finally became a rank O Berserker. And at that moment, a red energy appeared around his body. At the same time, he could suddenly feel that his strength had begun dramatically increasing.
