Book 8: Chapter 29
Book 8: Chapter 29
The war of Elarc was approaching its climax. Despite the massive amount of casualties, there was no doubt that the Alva were nearing their end. There were only a few dozen left. They were unable to move very quickly, so hunting them down was not such a difficult task.
One by one, the Alva continued to fall under the fierce onslaught of the knights. The sounds of violence and destruction that filled the city gradually seemed to diminish.
Finally, as one of the members of the Defense Chivalric Order struck down an approaching Alva near a small shelter, the city was suddenly filled with an air of silence.
A voice spoke out amidst the silence.
Are we safe?
The idea that they were safe must have been more comforting and easier to accept than the idea that they had won.
The voice continued to speak.
Were safe
Did we defeat the Alva?
Voices of excitement were heard from all around, spreading through the city like a wave.
Wewe did it!
We defeated the Alva!
These voices could be heard from all around the city.
Even the people who had been resting on the ground stood up once again, leaving behind their tiredness and fatigue as they saw a new ray of hope shine before them.
Some yelled, some wept, some embraced, and some just stood there, dumbfounded. Their reactions were varied, but on every face was a look of happiness and excitement.
A swarm of Alva had descended from the sky, and they had prepared themselves for death. But even then, humanityno, Elarc, Elarc had won. Looking up at the clear blue sky, they put their voices together and cheered. The people of Elarc were voicing their newfound hope.
But then a large cracking sound rang out from above them.
Uh
Looking up, someone cried out in surprise. Up above, there was a massive crevice in the sky. It seemed unreal.
No way, they thought.
They didnt even want to imagine what was about to happen next. Unconsciously, they erased the possibility from their minds.
But that would only bring them more despair.
What they saw above them was an enormous swarm of Alva descending from the sky.
AHHHHHHH!
A-AIEEEEE!?
Someone let out a horrible scream, striking fear into the hearts of everyone around. A single flame was shot out by one of the descending Alva. It struck a knight that stood gaping in disbelief, setting him ablaze.
He crumpled to the ground. All that was left was a coat of armor filled with human ashes. In that exact moment, a wave of immense terror overwhelmed the townspeople. Letting their instincts take control of them, they ran.
Pro-, protect them! We have to protect the townspeople We have to protect Elarc!
One of the Defense Knights yelled at the top of his lungs, readying his sword. But as an Alva landed on the ground directly near them, the townspeople sprinted away, scattering in every direction.
Wha-Wai-!
After getting knocked to the ground by the fleeing townspeople, the knight managed to regain his footing. But by the time he stood back up again, the Alvas sharp nails had already pierced through his chest. It picked up the knights body and hurled it towards the desperately fleeing townspeople.
A nearby knight took advantage of the opening, sinking his blade deep into the Alvas back in a single stroke. The knights heavy, powerful strike reduced the Alva into black dust, but he was set ablaze from behind by the attack of another Alva. He fell to the ground, his body covered in flames.
The area that had been a shelter not long ago was now a burning hell filled with cries of agony.
But this wasnt the only place. Horrible, terrified screams could be heard from all over the city of Elarc.
Ahhahh
A single Alva stood before a mother and her daughter. They were completely helpless beings, ordinary humans with no power to fight back.
Targeting them, the Alva swung up its claws. But the moment it began to bring them down, its body was sliced into two.
The Alva fell to the ground, disappearing into black dust. Behind the Alvas disintegrated body stood a black figure.
Her body was completely covered in black. Upon a black maid uniform rested a black breastplate. Her long black hair was beautiful, and her crimson eyes glowed bright, giving off an aura of strength.
Ghuoooooooo!
Gheoooghiega!
The black maid took a quick, calculating glance at the sharp nails of the two Alva that charged towards her.
She bashed the head of the first Alva with her gigantic shield. A dull, crushing sound was heard, and moments later, the second Alva was cut into shreds by the blade of the black maids sword.
By the time their bodies had turned into black dust, she was already cutting apart another Alva.
Maid knight
One of the defense knights muttered this under his breath. Laying their eyes on the maid knight that they thought must have been Reina of the Phybris Castle, someone cried out with excitement. Shes our savior, well finally be saved, they excitedly proclaimed.
However, the maid knight expressed nothing but annoyance towards these words as she continued to cut down the Alva.
How unpleasant. Nino, can I leave this to you?
No.
The response to the black maid knights request came from atop the roof of the guard station, from a green maid knight who sat on the edge of the roof with her legs swinging in the air.
Nino just came here to see the person known as Reina. I didnt come here to fight any Alva, and I didnt come here to help save any trash, either.
I dont care if you dont want to save them. However, please help exterminate the Alva. Theyre our enemies.
You have no right to tell Nino what to do. There is only one person that can give Nino commands.
The two maid knights glared at each other. Eventually, the black maid knight let out a sigh of defeat.
Fine, do whatever you want.
Watching the black maid knight run off, the green maid knight known as Nino quietly waved goodbye. She stretched.
Well, Nino is a good maid. I guess it wouldnt hurt to help exterminate high-priority enemies Oh well.
Her green eyes sparkled. Suddenly, off in the distance, a tree branch came out of nowhere, striking down an Alva that was attempting to attack the townspeople. As the trees surrounding her began to grow rapidly in all different directions, the shine in Ninos green eyes grew brighter.
Standing on the roof of the guard station, Nino unsheathed a pair of curved swords.
Bring it on. Nino will destroy all of you.
