Book 1, Epilogue 11 - It is mine (2)
“Ah! He isn’t like a god. Let me take that back.”
Lee Jaewon was appalled. The sight unfolding in front of his eyes was a scene of torture. It was something he couldn’t see with his eyes open.
“Ahhhk! Stop!”
“Kuh-huhk!! Help!”
Hung backward on their feet, the gang members were being beaten in front of the young Lee Jaewon. They were the ones who had tormented him.
Of course, they weren’t being brought to justice because they had used a child for their work. Moreover, the one beating them to death was none other than the hero…
Lee Jaewon was sure it was the hero Lee Gun, who had appeared in the news a day or two ago. He was supposed to be the new hope who’d save humanity.
“Ha ha ha! Give me your money, idiots!”
“…I really want to take back my statement. He isn’t like a god.” Lee Jaewon’s face turned pale from fright, and he averted his gaze.
Lee Gun ignored Lee Jaewon as he kept kicking the men hanging upside down. He also took the healthy recovery items from them. Some items that shouldn’t be in their possession also came out.
“Wow! Why the hell do you guys have drugs and nudie magazines?”
“Ahhk!!”
“Also, your tastes are terrible! I’m confiscating these!”
“No!”
In the end, Lee Jaewon realized that he had gotten caught up with someone crazy. Avoiding Lee Gun’s gaze, he tried to secretly exit the storeroom.
‘I already emptied this gang’s safe a long time ago.’
Today had been the last day he would do this work, and he had already been planning on running away. However, he had been caught by Lee Gun of all people.
‘I can still get out of this.’
Currently, Lee Gun’s attention was occupied somewhere else. It was a great opportunity to run away.
Lee Jaewon was about to secretly leave when…
Kwahk!
“!?”
A noose-shaped rope flew toward Lee Jaewon and caught him.
“Where do you think you are going?”
“Kuhk!!”
The Sagittarius temple was a temple of hunting. In terms of tracking down and capturing their prey, they never missed.
After stealing as much as he could from the gang members, Lee Gun looked at Hugo. He furrowed his brows. “Why are you dragging in that dirty kid? He’s no longer of use to me.”
“He isn’t useless to me! Teacher, you might have recovered your items, but I haven’t!”
“Ah! You said he stole your wallet.”
“Anyway, this kid took my money! I need it back! Give it back to me!”
Lee Jaewon, who had been caught by Hugo, snorted. “How much time do you think has passed since I stole it? I sold it a long time ago. Also, you had only thirty dollars there.”
The wallet had been a named brand, so he had sold it for a decent price.
Hugo grabbed Lee Jaewon by the collar. “How dare you sell that! Even when I had to sell the items in my house, that was one of the few items I kept for myself until the end!”
“You should have taken good care of it then…”
“What the hell did you just say?”
When Hugo despaired, Lee Gun smirked. “Right. You brought it on yourself. If you didn’t want it stolen, you should’ve kept a better eye on it. That’s why you’re a pushover…”
“Master’s precious ID is in there too!!”
“??!!!”
Lee Gun, who had been laughing in derision, turned his head. After checking his empty wallet, he grabbed Lee Jaewon by the collar. “You little shit! Why the hell would you steal the wallet of someone who did nothing?”
Lee Jaewon was choking.
At the same time, Lee Gun grabbed Hugo by his collar. “You want to die! Why would you have my ID in your possession?”
“Teacher, you entrusted it to me! You said to stop annoying you and waking you up!”
Lee Gun flinched. Before he had gotten into a fight with Hugo, he had drunk alcohol. That night, he had been in a good mood as he slept. However, Hugo annoyingly kept trying to wake him up to confirm a reservation. So Lee Gun had given his ID to him.
Lee Gun glared at Lee Jaewon. “You have a bad habit of stealing things, kid?”
Lee Jaewon clicked his tongue as if he didn’t know what the problem was. “You can get your ID reissued.”
Sparks of anger flew in Lee Gun’s eyes. The issue wasn’t getting it reissued. The ID that had been stolen was unique.
- Hyung! I put this on there!
It had photo stickers on it that the three of them had taken. One of them was a picture Lee Gun had taken with only Yeonwoo. The other one had all three of them. These were the only pictures Lee Gun had left of Yeonwoo and Junwoo.
Junwoo had told him to never lose the stickers. That was why Lee Gun had put the stickers on the back of his ID.
Lee Gun shook Lee Jaewon by the neck as he tried to kill(?) him. “Tell me right now where you sold it, you little shit!”
Lee Jaewon immediately smiled. “If you let me go, I can guide you to— Ahhk!”
Lee Gun grabbed the small face of the impertinent Lee Jaewon. “Did you think I didn’t know about your ghost-like ability to hide? I know you will run away if I do that."
“Uh! Is that true?” Hugo asked.
“Idiot. Why do you think this kid was able to steal from us?”
“!”
They weren’t normal people; they were superhumans who possessed senses far more developed than that of regular humans.
However, Lee Jaewon didn’t possess the scent of a human. It was as if he was dead.
Lee Gun didn’t know the reason for that, but he was having a hard time sensing Lee Jaewon’s presence.
Lee Jaewon’s expression darkened slightly. An odd sense of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
However, Lee Gun didn’t care as he dragged him away. “Whatever. Just tell me where you sold it. After I get the wallet back, I’ll hand you over to the police.”
Suddenly…
Hweek!
Something flew down in an arc and descended on the ground.
Hugo was surprised to see the item. “Ah! It’s my wallet!!! My money is still in there!”
“!”
Both Lee Jaewon and Lee Gun were surprised.
Lee Gun’s eyes turned round when he looked at where the wallet had come from. The one to throw the wallet was Hailey. It seemed she had recovered the wallet for them.
However, Hailey had pressed a hat over her face, and she pretended as if she wasn’t the one who had thrown the wallet. She pretended to look at a statue.
Of course, she had disguised herself so that she wouldn’t be found out by Lee Gun. She did her best to pretend to be doing something else, but she couldn’t dodge Lee Gun’s gaze.
This puzzled Lee Gun.
‘Why does she keep following me around?’
He couldn’t feel any hostility from her, so he had been letting it slide.
When Hailey met eyes with Lee Gun, she jumped in surprise. Then she started wiping the sculpture of a fat man.
Dumbfounded, Lee Gun shook his head from side to side.
‘I guess it doesn’t matter.’
“Anyway, it’s fine since we found the wallet. Since your money is still there, my ID should be in there too…”
“It isn’t! The only thing missing is your ID, Teacher!”
“What the hell did you just say?!”
“Uh?? Why is there more money than before??”
Flames erupted from Lee Gun’s mouth as he choked Lee Jaewon around his throat. “Bastard! I should sell your organs as recompense!”
“!!”
An angry Lee Gun was about to drag away Lee Jaewon when…
“Leave that kid alone.”
“!!!”
Lee Gun was annoyed to hear an unfamiliar voice.
Lee Jaewon froze.
The one to suddenly appear before them was a young man in his twenties. He was Jean-Louis Morin (26). Clad in a fancy suit, he laughed as he looked at Lee Gun.
Lee Gun scrunched up his face. “Who the hell is that weasley bastard?”
“Ah! He’s Mr. Jean-Louis. He’s an apostle like us! He’s the Cancer temple’s…!”
“What? The Cancer Saint that I know doesn’t look that young?”
“Ah! He sends out a stand-in to the media…”
It didn’t matter in the end.
Lee Gun glared at Jean-Louis. It was to be expected because of what he had heard from Stevens.
During the Seoul invasion, Jean-Louis had said he would come there, yet he had shamelessly left behind the others. He had gone to the country next to Korea to save the rich.
He might have a part in how that incident turned out, so Lee Gun naturally didn’t look kindly toward him.
On the other hand, Jean-Louis let out a big smile as if he had only good intent toward Lee Gun. “It’s nice to meet you for the first time, Thirteenth-nim. I have no thoughts or plans to make you my enemy. Please do not be so guarded toward me.”
At the time, Jean-Louis didn’t know anything about Lee Gun. He had come here under orders. So he had no ill feelings toward Lee Gun.
‘He’s a talent that might be able to help us.’
He tried to become friendly with Lee Gun. “I’m sorry if that child caused you trouble! I’ll apologize in his stead. I’ll give you plenty of recompense for your trouble, and I’ll take care of the clean-up too. Please hand him over.”
When Jean-Louis moved closer, Lee Jaewon started trembling. At the same time, it felt as if Jean-Louis’s voice was falling on the shoulders of Lee Jaewon.
“Hey, kid. I know you want to make some money, but you shouldn’t do something illegal like this. Right?”
A cold murderous intent was infused within his words.
Lee Jaewon shook in fear before Jean-Louis’s presence. Of course, he knew what this man meant.
- I told you to make me some money. You put me in a difficult situation by being caught.
The incredible fear made him reflexively try to grab the clothes of Hugo and Lee Gun. However, he soon gave up.
In the end, Jean-Louis was about to drag away Lee Jaewon.
“No! I won’t let you take him. I need this kid to find Teacher’s ID.”
When Hugo pulled Lee Jaewon toward him, an annoying look appeared on Jean-Louis’s face.
“I wondered where you ran away. It seems you were here. I didn’t notice your presence because you’re so weak.”
Hugo felt a surge of anger, but Jean-Louis smirked in contempt.
“Stop being so nosy. You should focus on your own affairs. You have to hurry up and become a level five.”
“!”
“If you want a position in a government, you have to quickly join the same rank as us. You’re the only one who wasn’t able to acquire a spot. If you take too long, they’ll all be taken.”
“…?”
Lee Gun glared at Hugo. He was asking if this was true.
Hugo was about to deny it when…
“That’s odd. It just seems like yesterday when you ran away because you were anxious about it. Ah! Is that why you asked Thirteenth-nim to take you under his wings, since you’re the lowest-ranked?”
Lee Gun looked fed up as he turned around. Of course, it wasn’t as if he trusted what the Cancer Saint was saying, but…
“You bastards are mad about money and political power.”
Flustered, Hugo tried to grab Lee Gun. “No! You keep misunderstanding my intentions from before! It really isn’t like that! I just want to save people…!”
Lee Gun scoffed in disbelief. “Is that so?”
“Yes!”
“Then you should try saving him too.” Lee Gun immediately threw Lee Jaewon off the cliff.
Lee Jaewon screamed as he fell. At the bottom of this cliff was an enormous lake of poison capable of killing even an apostle in short order!
Jean-Louis was surprised by this, but he soon smiled. It didn’t matter since Lee Jaewon didn’t have any parents who would miss his absence. The kid was merely a little thief.
“Thank you for taking care of him. That’s one annoying task I don’t have to do.”
Lee Gun looked at Jean-Louis in contempt. “I should have expected this from you guys.”
He then turned to look at Hugo. “Anyway, you should—”
Lee Gun’s eyes turned round. “Where the hell did he go??”
“Ahhhhh! Look out!!”
“?!”
Lee Gun was shocked to hear the sound coming from the base of the cliff. He had no idea what Hugo was banking on, but the Archer Saint had jumped off the cliff to catch Lee Jaewon.
Therefore, a shocked Lee Gun also jumped off the cliff. When he kicked the surface, he moved at a speed greater than that of a missile.
He overtook Hugo in a flash. His enormous power destroyed the surface and created wind pressure.
Kwahng!!
It truly was a speed that couldn’t be achieved by a human.
Jean-Louis’s eyes turned round as he watched this. Lee Gun grabbed Hugo and threw him toward a tree.
Kwahng!
“Kuh-huhk!!”
Ruthlessly thrown to the side, Hugo collided with a tree vine. His back almost folded. “Kuh-kuhk! M-My back!!”
Lee Gun landed next to him and hit him on the head. “You’ve lost your mind!”
“Kuh-huhk!! Please stop! I just acted on reflex. If you continue to hit me, I’ll die— Kuhk!”
“Why the hell would you jump off the cliff?”
“Then why would you try to kill an innocent kid?”
“Idiot! I didn’t kill him!” Lee Gun pointed downward.
Hugo was shocked when he looked below. The slime had turned into an enormous ball, and he was bouncing Lee Jaewon up and down on its body.
It seemed Lee Gun had done this to find out what kind of person Jean-Louis was. However…
“Why the hell would you jump off? If you die, you won’t be able to receive a spot in the government!”
“I’m really not interested in that! It’s true that I want to win against the other apostles, but if I become strong, I’ll be able to make my voice be heard…!”
“Voice?”
“I’m the weakest right now, so no one listens to what I have to say. I protested when they said we should abandon the hostages… However, they said I was acting sanctimonious and treated me as if I were a sandbag…”
Only if he became stronger could he make his voice be heard.
An odd look entered Lee Gun’s eyes as gazed at Hugo. He seemed to have taken a liking to Hugo.
Lee Gun didn’t say anything as he took the two young men and ran up the cliff. “That weasel ran away.”
At that moment…
“!”
Lee Jaewon, whom they had assumed to be unconscious, took out something. He didn’t say anything. It was none other than Lee Gun’s ID.
“Ah!”
Lee Gun’s face was almost erased from the ID, but it still had the sticker.
It seemed Lee Jaewon had seen the picture and was unable to bring himself to get rid of it.
“Thank you, and I’m sorry!”
After taking back the ID, Lee Gun didn’t say anything. He hit Lee Jaewon’s head, making him unconscious.
Lee Gun then turned to Hugo. “Hey, maggot. I want you to bring me what I ask starting tomorrow.”
“What?”
“I’ll help you escape your title of the weakest.”
“…!”
While this would allow Hugo to become the highest-ranked fighter, it was the moment when the road to hell had opened for him.
