Chapter 10: Running And Hiding

As I heard the wolf pack approach, I checked my own Status in desperation.

[Plot Points]: [210] [Skill Points: 30] [Stat Points: 35]

-----

Ugh, are you kidding me?! Aside from the insane growth of my Charm stat, all my other stats still kind of suck. Remembering the novel based in this world that my previous life read, my brother got +50 to all stats with each level up if not even more as he Ranked Up.

And to make things worse for me my Luck Stat gets worse every time I level up! What?! I have a -100 Luck growth per level. Could you even call this growth? It is more like a curse that gets worse as I grow stronger. I have to somehow think of a solution to this, eventually.

Damn it, at least I’ve got my Stat Points! I need to run faster, that’s the only thing I can do right now. I have to prioritize survival. Killing them would give some nice EXP, but it’s not worth the risk.

Ding!

[You’ve assigned 35 Stat Points into the AGI Stat!]

[AGI]: [65] -> [100]

[The effects of [Jester’s Reverse Fortune (S Rank Privilege)] have been activated!]

[Your LUK Stat has been reversed from -10700 to 10700 for this event only!]

[Oh? What luck! Your AGI stat has increased by an additional +20!]

[AGI]: [100] -> [120]

Wow. So it also works like that! Luck can also affect things such as boosting stats, that’s insane! As long as I have this bizarre Privilege, at least I’ll be lucky in the things that matter to me. Although I blame this bad luck on the pack of wolves that showed up right after I beat a boss. If it wasn’t for the {Maiden that Watches Over Nature}, who completely healed me as a gift, I would be half-dead, or already being eaten by wolves.

“Alright Violet, let’s run for our lives!”

There’s no way I am fighting more monsters, I want to take a break!

“KYU!”

Violet agreed as I touched the Queen’s corpse and her two scythes, storing everything inside my Inventory for later usage as swiftly as I could. Several notifications contaminated my sight, making things slightly more difficult than they should already be. Is there a way for me to cancel system notifications? I always thought they were cool in novels, but IRL they’re fucking obnoxious.

Ding!

[You have stored [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Carcass (D Rank)] x1!]

[Oh? Lucky! Your [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Carcass (D Rank)] x1 Quality Rank has increased to C Rank!]

[You have stored [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Right Scythe (D Rank)] x1!]

[Oh? What is this?! Your [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Right Scythe (D Rank)] x1 Quality Rank has increased to C Rank!]

[You have stored [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Left Scythe (D Rank)] x1!]

[Oh? Amazing! Your [Abyssal Dweller’s Queen Left Scythe (D Rank)] x1 Quality Rank has increased to C Rank!]

Holy shit, the new Privilege is amazing. If I could get my hands into an A Rank Material, wouldn’t that mean I could get an S Rank Material with the quality upgrade?! I could make a fortune out of it! Nonetheless, there’s no point in making a fortune if I won’t be alive to enjoy it.

Ding!

[The effects of [Little Rabbit’s Fearlessness (F Rank Privilege)] have been activated!]

[Your AGI Stat has temporarily increased by +50%!]

So long losers! Enjoy the scraps!

I quickly threw some piles of meat of the pill bugs and the queen to distract the wolves, as I ran for my life with Violet on top of my head. I ran, ran, and ran some more. I utilized my newly increased MP stat and the Skill Points to purchase a special skill, which allowed me to detect monsters from afar. This is all I could do, run and hide.

Ding!

[You’ve exchanged 25 Skill Points!]

[You learned the [Mana Sense (F): Lv1] Innate Skill!]

-----

[Mana Sense (F): Lv1]

[Skill EXP]: [0/100]

The innate ability to utilize your own Mana to expand your senses around your perimeter can detect things that are beyond physical objects such as walls and doors. The more Mana is utilized, the higher the range of detection.

Level Bonus (1): Enhances Acuity of Perception using Mana Sense by +10%.

-----

It was more expensive than Crafting for some reason, but this is really useful! My survivability comes first after all. However, because my Luck freaking sucked, I ended up running into monsters over and over again. Most of them are even stronger than the Queen!

Ding!

[The [Abyssal Orc Warrior (C Rank)] is inspecting the perimeter!]

[Careful! There’s a [Salamander (C+ Rank)] at the other side of the path!]

[A very hungry [Dark Shadow Spider Queen (B- Rank)] roams her territory looking for a snack…]

[A sleeping [Cyclops Tyrant (B- Rank)] might wake up at any noise…]

These messages popped up every time, connecting themselves with my senses and my Mana Sense Skill. It seemed the System I had worked differently than my brother’s, as this one seemed to love to tell me information like this all the time. At least it is way more useful than half the stupid systems I’ve seen in novels.

Nonetheless, as I kept running away, I began following a pattern I saw in the walls of the dungeon. I do remember this pattern from the novel. My brother used it to enter the boss room and defeat the powerful monster in there, the B+++ Rank [Insect Queen Lolth], and then finally destroy the dungeon.

Dungeons can be destroyed once the Boss is defeated, and their doors will remain as long as they’re not cleared. Once the Dungeon Boss is defeated, the Dungeon begins crumbling apart, and it will take thirty minutes to disappear.

Usually, a gate leading to the outside world appears once the boss is defeated as well. But at my current strength? There’s no freaking way I could defeat the boss. I have to wait for my brother to get it done. But the boss never comes out of the dungeon room, and actually standing near the gate might be safer than roaming around randomly.

And even more, I also remember there was a hidden treasure chest my brother found before fighting the boss, right after rescuing me within the novel’s text. Maybe I should try snatching that, huh?

“Here we are…”

After a few minutes of roaming everywhere while running away from hungry monsters, I arrived. An enormous, purple-colored gate shone brightly, as a majestic, yet intimidating aura surged from within its interior.

Ding!

[The Aura of the Dungeon Boss intimidates all other monsters from approaching!]

[The Dungeon Boss notices your tiny and pesky presence, provoking you to enter her chambers and challenge her!]

“No thanks… Let’s just chill for now.”

I quickly walked away from the gates, sitting at the other end of the corridor, finally, I had a safe spot to wait for my brother to come. But for now, it would be a waste if I just sit around though…

“Ahh, I’m so hungry… Can I even eat this bug’s meat? Ugh, it looks disgusting.”

In my hands I was holding the meat of the queen, it was green and oozing with bug juice, and the smell was like rotten garbage.

“KYU!”

Violet surely didn’t mind, he was feasting on pill bugs' carcasses happily, I even gave him a big pile of the queen’s meat.

“You sure are something else…”

I remember my brother was able to acquire skills by devouring monsters, a power that the God Devouring Fenrir, a Fallen Constellation, granted to him. But that’s a Fenrir Vessel unique power, I don’t have it. So it’s just useless to risk it. Though the queen’s Magic Crystal does look pretty, a big, purple-colored jewel it was.

Ding!

[The [Abyssal Dweller Queen Magic Crystal (C Rank)] shines with beautiful luster!]

[Do you wish to absorb it?]

[By absorbing it, there’s a 10% chance for you to increase your stats or gain one of the Queen’s Unique Skills.]

[This chance might increase or decrease based on LUK Stat.]

Oh? Right… This mechanic. This world’s Boss-type monsters can grant power to those that absorb their crystals. However, the chance of getting power out of it is very small, never going over 20%. But that’s not all, normal monster Magic Crystals can also be absorbed, it is the way Hunters grow stronger in this world, as they don’t have a leveling system.

However, no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t absorb the smaller monster Magic Crystals, it seems that I am only limited to the Boss-type Monsters. Is it because I can level up by killing monsters, therefore, it is not necessary to absorb their Magic Crystals. It is a bit annoying.

Nonetheless, I can still absorb boss-type monsters' magic crystals, so that’s still pretty good, even if the chances might be really low. Though, I do wonder… With my Privilege, can I make it 100%? I would be risking a lot though. I could make a perfectly good item out of this!

“Ah… screw it.”

Ding!

[You’ve begun to absorb the [Abyssal Dweller Queen Magic Crystal (C Rank)]!]

FLASH!

The crystal quickly turned into purple-colored magic energy, infusing itself into my body. And then, my vision changed for a few seconds, as I found myself within a completely black space. The figure of the Abyssal Dweller Queen glanced down at me, her furious red eyes glaring at me with utter wrath. She opened her enormous jaws and then devoured me whole.

CHOMP!

“Aahh!”

And when I opened my eyes again, I realized it was just some sort of weird illusion. Probably what happens when I absorb a Boss monster magic crystal.

Ding!

[The effects of [Jester’s Reverse Fortune (S Rank Privilege)] have been activated!]

[Your LUK Stat has been reversed from -10700 to 10700 for this event only!]

[You have absorbed the [Abyssal Dweller Queen Magic Crystal (C Rank)]!]

[You acquired the Innate Skill [Twin Cutter (D): Lv1]!]

[Your STR Stat has increased by +25!]

[Your VIT Stat has increased by +15!]

[Oh?! Lucky! You acquired the Innate Skill [Venom Secretion (D)]: Lv1]!]

[Uoh?! Insane! Your HP Stat has increased by +10!]

[Eh?! No way! Your MP Stat has increased by +5!]

A powerful aura surged all around my body, as my stats increased, and I ended up getting two new Skills!

“It worked as intended…”

Ding!

[The Cosmic Throne {Trillion-Legged Millipede That Swarms The Cosmos} is watching you.]

[She says there hasn’t been anybody interesting for a while and feels relieved to see someone fitting to be her apostle…]

Huh? Who’s this now? Just leave me alone you damn stalkers!
