The next day, Ji Zhiyao slept until he woke up naturally. His school was in City S itself, 40 plus kilometers away. He was not the least bit worried that he would be late to report.
Getting out of bed and having changed his clothes, Ji Zhiyao went downstairs with his luggage. Ji Qingge had already left for school, and his parents, who worked an extra night shift last night, were eating.
Seeing Ji Zhiyao come down, his father pulled a tissue to wipe his mouth. “Wait for me for a moment, I’ll drive you there.”
Ji Zhiyao waved his hand. “It’s okay, it’s not like I don’t know how to collect my bedding. Look at the dark circles on your faces, it’s better to stay home and have a good rest.”
Aside, a soft smile showed on his mother’s slightly exhausted face. “Okay, remember to call home if you need anything.”
“Mm.” Ji Zhiyao changed his shoes at the entryway after bidding farewell, left the house, and headed straight for the bus stop.
S University was in the suburbs, and it usually took one to two hours by bus to reach. However, today, there were a lot more students grouping together and heading to several universities to report. The roads were filled making it seem like a sea of vehicles, and the bus took a whole three and a half hours before arriving at the entrance of the school.
Ji Zhiyao shook his drowsy head and alighted with his luggage.
Walking beneath the flourishing green trees, he felt as if the fumes from the vehicles coming to and fro were being filtered away, and the air was much fresher. Ji Zhiyao slightly squinted his eyes, looking towards the interior of S University.
S University was an old school. He had been here a few times when he was still in middle school. The sight before him overlapped with the scene in his memory from a years ago. Other than being a little greener, having some buildings renovated and an extra row of tables to “Welcome new applicants” outside the school gate, there were not many changes.
He dragged his luggage and walked over.
The one to receive him was a female senior in a white skirt with an innocent appearance.
“Are you a freshman here to report? Which faculty are you under?” The senior looked up. The surprise and shyness that appeared at once in her eyes were especially eye-catching.
Ji Zhiyao nodded with a small smile. “Senior, I’m a law major freshman.”
“From law.” The senior muttered in annoyance. “Such a good-looking little junior, and he isn’t even in our faculty.” Then, looking up, she pointed slightly regretfully in another direction. “That male senior is in the same major as you. Go find him, and he will lead you to register and collect your bedding.”
“Alright, thank you, senior.”
Turning around and ignoring them murmurs from the girls behind, Ji Zhiyao walked towards the senior in a male shirt who looked reserved, asking him to help show the way.
And in the twenty plus minutes where the senior was leading the way, he was indeed as quiet as he appeared to be,
When everything had been collected, the senior rejected Ji Zhiyao’s good intention to treat him to a meal and left. Now on his own, Ji Zhiyao looked up the dorm number ‘1306’ pasted on his key, carried his bedding and luggage, and headed right up.
The dorm was a four-man room, and there were already two boys in 1306. Ji Zhiyao was the third.
Ji Zhiyao threw his belongings on the bed beside the door, taking his pick between the two remaining beds. He greeted the others with a friendly expression. “Hello, I’m Ji Zhiyao, local of S City. If you guys want to go out to have fun but can’t find a place, feel free to ask me.”
“Haha, that’s great.” The boy in blue short sleeves laughed out. “I’m Yang Bing, from A City.”
The other boy in white short sleeves rubbed his head. He spoke with some accent and a rather honest smile. “I’m Ning Lichao, from J City. I’ve never been here. The school is huge, I almost lost my way earlier.”
Ji Zhiyao and Yang Bing both laughed out kindly.
Seeing that his aim of basic interaction with his dorm mates was achieved, Ji Zhiyao easily climbed onto the bed and starting tidying the bedding that was thrown on it earlier.
When he was almost done, he vaguely heard the noise of the turning of luggage wheels and poked half of his head out from the bed to look.
One glance, and he felt a little surprised.
