Chapter 34 - The Unfortunate Fate Of Someone From The Weakest And Unpopular Academy...
Yman noticed some other trainees on the distance. They were watching at them. Based on their looks, he surmised that they were senior trainees. Although he was wondering that there were only a few senior students in this academy.
Every row of trainees there was an instructor facing them. Watching them while managing their actions.
If any of the trainees made any unnecessary movements they could be easily be caught and be punished.
So every one of them was too careful not to make any slight movement that could be caught the instructor's attention.
They were standing straight with both hands straight down on their sides. Everyone's attention must focus only on the person on stage. .
Only the gulping sounds of their drying throats were slightly discernible. Everyone was having mixtures of feelings. They were excited and nervous at the same time.
After introducing himself to the fledgling trainees, Instructor Stone De Guz Man greeted the new batch of fledglings. They were the new freshmen of this academy.
In the distance, some senior trainees were watching the scene. This was the same scene at their time when they first came to this academy. Every one of them had the ambition of being the one to raise this academy's reputation.
That they would be the ones to lead this academy to victory. That they were fated to become the great leader of this academy.
But reality slapped them very hard on their faces after they experienced the crushing defeat in the official stage of academy contest.
They were out in the preliminary round of the contest. The gap in strength was too high. The other academy was just too strong. And they have better facilities compared to this academy. They could not even complete their quests because the other trainees from the different academies would hunt in their territory. And they could just flee, run with their tails.
How could they able to get stronger when the other academies had stronger senior trainees who accompanied their fledglings to hunt in this academy's own hunting ground?
In this repeated fate of defeat, when the official match had begun, they had lower levels compared to the magicians from the other academies.
All those senior trainees who would be going to graduate in this academy could only sigh in regrets. After they graduated here, it would be hard for them to find decent jobs in the future. In this era where only looks and strength were matters, a loser like them had no place in these two worlds.
And, those who graduated from the strong and popular academy would have a better future ahead of them. For sure many companies or guilds would flock to recruit them.
This was the reality of these two worlds. Well, those losers who graduated from the weak and unpopular academy had a future of becoming a canon-fodder. They could join the subjugation mission to reclaim some lands that were fallen to the monster on the Outerworld.
Or they could stay here and joined the adventurers guild to support themselves. Being an adventurer could help them gained money to become rich, but their life would always be in danger. Since high reward mission means high difficulty. And if no mission, it also means no work, so no pay.
Unlike the seeker association on the Outerworld where their salary was set for monthly even if there was no mission. And also, in the seeker association, many benefits were given. For example life insurance, medical, health, and much other insurance. But in adventurer's guild, no insurance you would get even if you died.
This was the unfairness of this new era. Where looks and strength only matters.
If you're wondering why looks were also mattered. That was because any good looking individual could use it to their advantage.
Right now, those seniors who were watching at these new batch of fledglings could only sigh in regrets at them while shaking their heads. All of them knew, that these people don't know yet if what kind of unfortunate fate awaited them.
For sure if they found out about it, many of them would transfer to the other academy.
Instructor Stone followed his speech by introducing those three old men on stage together with him.
They were the Elders who were managing the academy together with the principal. They mostly taught the trainees about magic.
The advisers taught them about minor subjects; such as math, history, language, and etcetera.
Those three old men on stage were the ones responsible for teaching them about major subjects. These subjects were of course all about magic.
They would be teaching the trainees about magic and its history and they would be teaching them how to better increase their understanding of it. And how to better manipulate them.
On the other hand, the instructors would teach them about fighting and how to efficiently use their magic in live combat.
In this academy, not only they learned about magic, but they would also learn other things, such as this world.
The three elders were known as:
Elder Nitan — A 150 years old man who was an expert in wind magic. He would be teaching the trainees about magic understanding. Currently, he was a level 25 magician or having a 25% breakthrough on his limiter.
Not only the magician becomes stronger whenever they breakthrough. Their lifespan also would increase. And their aging becomes slower. There were even some rumors that a magician who leveled up beyond level 50 would be having a reverse aging. Where their visage would start to look younger and younger, the change in appearance would stop when you achieve your prime appearances. Mostly at the age when you're at 18 - 30 years old.
But this was just an unproven rumor since no one had been reported yet that there was someone who achieved such a level of above 50.
Elder Gatan — an expert in water type magic. He would be in charge of teaching the trainees about magic history. Like the Elder Nitan, he also was at level 25. He was 199 years old and the oldest among the three elders. He was also an expert in healing magic and spirit summoning magic.
Also, he was the longest Elder who was teaching in this academy. Some rumor said that he used to be the principal in this academy. Then he resigned and chose to be a magic historian.
And lastly Elder Paan — She was an expert in earth type magic. About 129 years old. The youngest and the only female among the three elders. It was said that this granny was a beauty in her prime. But now she was just a strict unmarried old woman.
Aside from that, there was not so much information about her. She was kind of mysterious. Even her level was unknown to others. Other people had no way to know about the other's level. Even if they were in resonance with their deity, they could only see the life bar on the green bar above the other's head.
While on the monster, sometimes their ranks, names, and life points were visible inside their red bar. But that depends if the system deity had information about that certain monster. And if not, only the red bar would appear.
She would be teaching the trainee about magic manipulation.
The reason why this batch of new trainees was gathered here, was to check their magic aptitude, best element, magic type, etcetera and to measure their magic power they currently possessed.
