Chapter 1926: The First Shadow Protector
Chapter 1926: The First Shadow Protector
In an elegant tea room at Spirit Refining Domain, Qu Changfeng held the teacup in his hand and curiously looked at the young man in front of him.
Xi Yue’s gaze remained fixed on the virtual communication interface, oblivious to the tea on the table growing cold.
Qu Changfeng couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Did you just send a challenge request for a duel to [0]?”
Is this person out of his mind? As a mere Nascent Soul Stage novice, unable to even crack the top hundred in the duel rankings, he actually thought he could challenge [0], the reigning champion of the Spirit Refining Domain.
Xi Yue glanced at him without saying a word. Instead, she pulled out a dozen or so grade 6 meridian cleansing pills and handed them to him. “This is the payment I promised,” she said. “Thanks for giving me your chance to challenge someone unconditionally this year.”
Qu Changfeng didn’t reach for the meridian cleansing pills. Instead, his expression remained calm and indifferent as he said, “As I said, I’m willing to be your Shadow Protector. When I make a promise, I never go back on my word.”
Xi Yue paused; a hint of surprise in her eyes. She raised an eyebrow and said, “Becoming my Shadow Protector means you’ll be at my command for 10 years. And in that time, I might accomplish nothing—at most, I’ll be able to refine some grade 6 or 7 pills. Doesn’t that mean you’ll be the one losing out?”
Qu Changfeng’s expression remained calm, though his eyes were filled with confidence. “I’m betting that you will one day become a medical sovereign or a quasi-sage level pill refiner. These ten years are nothing more than my stake in the wager.”
“Besides,” he continued, “you’ve probably noticed by now that my dantian is damaged, and I can’t take ordinary pills. Every time I try, my meridians twist in agony—it’s worse than death. But without medicine, my progress will come to a halt. Only your pills can help me advance. For that reason alone, I have no choice but to follow you.”
Seeing his frankness, Xi Yue couldn’t help but chuckle. She extended her hand, her voice clear and melodious as she spoke, “Then I’ll be counting on you, my first Shadow Protector.”Qu Changfeng shook hands with Xi Yue. For a moment, his expression froze, as if caught off guard.
The young man before her had a strikingly handsome face, complemented by long hands that seemed too delicate like porcelain.
As Qu Changfeng held her hand, he felt a surprising warmth spread through his palm. Her hands were far softer and more tender than any woman’s he had ever touched. For the first time, his usually steady heart skipped a beat involuntarily.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
However, such palpitations quickly disappeared when Xi Yue took her hand back.
Qu Changfeng pushed those fleeting thoughts aside and gave Xi Yue a meaningful look. “I’m not sure if I’ve earned the right to know your true identity, but I can’t exactly go around telling people I’m the Shadow Protector of 007, can I?”
Xi Yue was amused by Qu Changfeng’s words. She brought the teacup to her lips and took a sip. “My name is Xi Yue.”
Xi… Yue… Qu Changfeng repeated the words slowly before looking up at her. “So, Xi Yue, which realm are you in on the Siam Continent, and what’s your current location? I can come to your side and protect you right away.”
“No need!” Xi Yue quickly rejected the offer. “I’m in a safe place right now. You can go on with your own business. If I need you, I’ll call for you.”
Once the Shadow Protector contract was signed, there would be a bond between the doctor and protector, almost like a blood pact. The bond allowed them to sense each other’s presence. In truth, even if Xi Yue didn’t reveal her location, Qu Changfeng could still find her if he truly wished to.
Qu Changfeng felt a twinge of regret. He was quite intrigued by his “contracted master” and was eager to meet Xi Yue in person. Unfortunately, as a Shadow Protector, he was bound to honor the commands of his “contracted master.”
