The Herb King

Chapter 382: Meeting the Family Head of the Abaveron Family

"Sir Aethelwolf, the army will soon engage with the rebel force so I won't be able to respond for some time," William reported his situation to Aethelwolf. The approaching battle made him nervous, causing his shoulders to shake. He didn't expect that he would become a soldier from being a servant in the Golden Lake Manor.

"You need to keep yourself safe. Don't hesitate to use the defensive runes I gave you." A reply came from the communication rune.

"Yes, sir!"

"Alright. I will end the call here. Don't die and come back in one piece."

The call was disconnected after that.

William kept the communication crystal inside his storage item. It was then that he heard the gongs of war.

"It's starting!" He muttered. Cold sweat trickled down his cheeks when he sensed the blood-pumping atmosphere.

Looking at his subordinates, he forced out a calm look and shouted. "Let's go!"

At this moment, Kenneth commanded the reinforcement army to attack the rear of the rebel army.

"There's another army behind us!"

"Look out!"

Kenneth lifted his halberd and raised it in midair. "Charge! Kill them all!"

Hearing his fearsome roar, the fighting spirit of his troops was ignited.

"Kill the rebels!"

With their fierce attack, the rear position of the rebel army was breached. They couldn't even stop Kenneth's army. All they could do was watch in despair as their comrades died before their eyes.

The difference in military prowess was significant. Coupled with the presence of Kenneth and the other Nascent Soul Espers, they managed to break through the defensive walls constructed by the rebel army.

Charles Featherkind also took this chance to send more of his troops, trapping the rebel commanders at the front and preventing them from aiding the rear lines.

After a few hours of fearsome battle, they finally managed to reclaim one of the fallen districts. Unfortunately, the entire district was in total mess with corpses littered across the streets. Many houses and establishments were also destroyed during the battle.

Despite their overwhelming victory, there was no sign of joy in Charles Featherkind's face. The destruction of the district made him furious. "Those bloody rebels! I will kill them all!" He roared.

The soldiers were also affected by his mood and they all let out their battle cries.

A moment later, Charles noticed Kenneth coming towards him in his mount. His battle armor was covered in blood and his halberd was still dripping with blood.

Seeing him, Charles' face eased up. The victory this time was largely because of the presence of the reinforcements. If it weren't for them, he would have lost half of his men in this battle.

"Sir Kenneth, I cannot thank you enough for your support. Once this war is over, I will personally visit Northern Trance to properly express my gratitude." Charles lowered his head. He didn't mind bowing his head to the people who deserved his respect.

Kenneth smiled at his words. "I will await that day, Sir Charles."

"We should regroup with the Abaveron Household's army. They were recuperating when you arrived so they didn't participate in the battle." Charles muttered in a serious voice.

Hearing this, Kenneth frowned. "Can you tell me more about what happened to them?"

Charles nodded. "This district is under the Abaveron Family's jurisdiction so they were the first one to engage with the rebel army. During the battle, one of the Nascent Soul Esper in their family was severely wounded and almost a third of their army was killed."

Soon, they arrived at the camp of the Abaveron Family's army.

Most of the soldiers were injured and only a few lucky ones were unscathed.

The arrival of their group alarmed the soldiers, but when they noticed the banners of the Featherkind Household, they relaxed their guards.

"Sir Charles! We heard that we managed to reclaim one district. Is this news true?" An injured commander of the Abaveron Family asked.

Charles stared at him and nodded. "That's right. I came here to inform your family head about this matter."

The commander's face lit up upon hearing his words. "That's great! I wish I was there to see it…"

Charles got down from his mount and patted the man's shoulder. "Recuperate well and you will have the chance to join us again in battle."

"Yes, sir!"

"Where is your family head?" Charles asked.

"The family head is at the emergency ward. Sir Jusuf's situation is worsening so he stayed there to watch over him." The commander sighed with a downcast look.

Charles frowned at his words. "Bring me to see him!"

"Yes, sir!"

The commander brought them to the emergency ward. There were a lot of soldiers waiting nervously in the hallways.

"What are you guys doing here? You can't disturb Sir Jusuf!" The soldiers immediately blocked their path.

Seeing this, the commander immediately explained the situation. "Relax, comrades! This man right here is Sir Charles Featherkind and this is Sir Kenneth Suliman of Northern Trance. They came here to check on Sir Jusuf's situation and inform the family head about the result of the battle."

"Is that so?"

With his patient explanation, they managed to enter the emergency ward.

"Charles?" A surprised voice drifted into their ears the moment they entered the room. The smell of medicinal herbs assaulted their nostrils, but they didn't react.

"Sir Dan." Charles nodded at the old man sitting beside the bed.

Kenneth stared at the old man. This guy was the family head of the Abaveron Family. He looked very old and his withered arms were as thin as a stick.

Dan Abaveron nodded back in response. He then turned his gaze to Kenneth and raised his eyebrows in confusion. "This gentleman is?"

"This man is Sir Kenneth Suliman. He is the grand commander of the reinforcements sent by Northern Trance. Because of their help, we managed to reclaim one district."

"Greetings, Sir Dan." Kenneth didn't dare act arrogantly in front of the old man. Despite the latter's advancing age, he was as strong as the Suliman Family's patriarch!
