The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

Chapter 438: Crafty

Chapter 438: Crafty

After recovering some of his mana, Zaos made the horses disperse… all the trouble he could cause to the main army would be trouble that he would cause. Once that was done, he recovered Moody and then headed toward the second camp. Before doing so, he decided to apologize to his old partner who has been helping him more than a little bit on that crazy mission.

“Sorry, buddy,” Zaos said while patting Moody. “We had a lot of ground to cover, so you will have to work more than usual. Just hang in there for a while longer, and then I will buy many barrels of apple for you.”

Zaos couldn’t attack the main camp because Drannor was the leader there, and he knew what kind of tactic would be the best against Zaos if he decided to go all out against the main army. Poison was probably the best, and even though Zaos increased his resistance against it over the years, what would happen if he gets scratched by dozens of poisoned blades? Thanks to his actions, Drannor realized that for whatever reason, Zaos didn’t want a direct confrontation, so he decided to ignore him and force his hands to a real fight… he was ready for one.

Thanks to Moody’s extra speed, Zaos found the second camp the very moment the sky began to clear up… the timing was bad since he couldn’t look for his former allies, and the movements in the camp were starting to get pretty intense. Zaos had two days… Elkim’s town was two days away, but he wouldn’t let the battle get so close to his territory.

“Watching from up-close during the day will be hard without being found… but I suppose I can give a sign to them, one which Nyana might recognize,” Zaos thought.

The second camp should have known that someone attacked the main camp, so if Nyana and the others were there, they should know that Zaos was nearby. In any case, Zaos couldn’t be obvious because he was there also to destroy the army’s supplies, which should make the war last for a lot less time.

After thinking for a while, Zaos had an idea on how he could invade the camp during the day without causing a ruckus. However, that would cost him a lot of mana… Hopefully, he will be able to steal some potions from the supplies of the Sairus kingdom army…

Zaos moved away from the camp before they could begin to move and began to create a large mist. While he was doing that, he was worried about the fact that Drannor apparently didn’t send soldiers or even ravens to warn the second army… that was plain stupid unless he truly wanted him to attack. Most likely, he had a trap ready for him in there. Still, that didn’t stop Zaos.

A few hours later, when the army began to move and came across a region covered in mist, the commanders wondered what they should do. That kind of thing wasn’t abnormal in that region due to the time of the year and the fact it was like a division between the usual climates of both countries… Still, something didn’t seem right. Unfortunately, the commanders didn’t have time to waste. Besides, they weren’t warned about the possibility of any attack since the main army was two days ahead of them. So, they gave the order to everyone to just march.

Zaos nodded to himself in satisfaction while he confirmed the support army passing through the middle of the mist with his senses. He was on the extreme left side of the mist, and he made sure to turn the mist thicker there. Eventually, Zaos found some powerful magic presences and Nyana’s presence… They showed up a bit late because they were on the back of the formation. That wasn’t good…

Regardless, Zaos knocked down a random soldier from behind and then took his armor and equipment before the entire army could pass through the mist. He also put them on and joined the army while disguised. Some of the soldiers frowned when they saw a man and a horse this back on the formation, but soon they forgot about it. It was probably someone who slept for too long…

When the support army left the mist, Zaos realized why the bloody knights were so far in the back of the formation… They were guarding the supplies. Drannor knew that Zaos would have a hard time destroying those if he knew that his old friends would be punished for it.

“What a crafty idiot you have become, Drannor…” Zaos muttered while facepalming.

Most of the soldiers of the bloody knights had helmets, so no one recognized Zaos when he was already on… but things would get troublesome if they recognized Moody or checked the bag he was carrying since that was where Zaos put his armor. Nevertheless, Zaos increased his pace to reach Nyana. Fortunately, the others and she were behind the supply wagons instead of the front… it seemed that Drannor didn’t imagine that Zaos could pass through half of the support army and then attack the supplies. He would do so from behind. While making difficult expressions, Nyana, Melisse, and Cohnal were riding their horses. Zaos could guess while they were looking like that, considering what he already saw what Drannor had already done and the things that they discovered, that atmosphere was pretty fitting.

“Don’t look at me,” Zaos whispered when he got close enough to Nyana. “Let’s just talk like this, or we will alert the others.
