Chapter 428: Fact
Chapter 428: Fact
Zaos returned to his base a few hours after breakfast. Things seemed normal there. Everyone was doing their daily chores or leaving to work outside, but at the same time, it didn’t seem as lively as before. That was bad…
“Boss, have you already solved that issue?” Nakin asked.
“More or less,” Zaos replied. “From now on, divide your squad to guard and collect Intel from all port towns and in the places near the borders. several things are bound to happen in the next few months and I want to hear from them as fast as possible.”
“Yes, sir, “Nakin said.
Zaos was tired, but unfortunately, he couldn’t rest now. It was the time for him to try even harder to solve the issue about the demon god. Now that he had many subordinates, he could delegate all the unimportant work to them. However, the only solution for his actual predicament resided on the possibility of his four former allies deciding to help him or not. If some demon had managed to sneak into the castle over the last few years, then Zaos hopes would have been burned a long time ago.
When Zaos returned to his room, he found a depressed Milliendra and a troubled Aleni. It was the worst combination possible.
“Come over here, Millie,” Zaos said.
Usually, Milliendra would jump into his arms, but this time she slowly approached. After hugging her, Zaos patted her head until her hair was a mess, and then he kissed her cheek. She got a bit angry since it was too much work for her to fix her hair every morning.
“Millie, don’t feel too bad, okay?” Zaos said. “Life is always like this, something happens now and then that always puts us down, but we only fall so that we can get up.”
“Daddy… Am I different from others?” Milliendra asked.
“We all are different from each other, you may have a thing or two that makes you extra different, but not in a bad way,” Zaos said.
“Then why do I feel like everyone is much different from me… like they are more frail?” Milliendra asked.
“… Do you think your daddy is frail?” Zaos asked. “Or Mommy, she seems weak to you?”
“Mommy and Daddy are different,” Milliendra said. “But everyone else is…”
“Don’t think about that Millie,” Zaos said. “Life probably won’t be easy for any of us from now on, but whenever you find yourself in a difficult situation, remember this: no matter what you say, think or do, mommy and Daddy will always love you. We will always be there for you, no matter what.”
Milliendra nodded and cried a little. Although she was still young, she was smart enough to understand the meaning of those heavy words. In the end, Zaos hugged Milliendra until she fell asleep again, and then he had the chance to talk with Aleni about what had happened.
“I see…” Aleni said, showing a complicated expression. “I am Sorry, but I didn’t manage to think of any other solution. Do you think your friends will help?”
“I am not sure… they seemed pretty divided when I told them some points of what we know,” Zaos said. “They find it hard to believe that the demon god is returning and his minions have already started appearing.”
“That makes sense, I still have a hard time believing that I met such weird creatures, their presences are so weird…” Aleni said.
“In what way?” Zaos asked.
“Let’s see… some of them had the presences that are similar to ours… to people who killed many others,” Aleni explained. “However, unlike us their presence was the same, even when they were fighting and also could sense some enjoyment coming from them.”
“So, our presences are different in battle mode, that makes sense,” Zaos said. “But unlike us, they feel different in the middle of the battle, and that presence is also emitted at all moments.”
“More or less… it is like a smell, the more you get dirty with blood, the more you smell like it,” Aleni added. “However, even though those creatures hadn’t killed someone in months, the smell didn’t leave their presence… it has become a part of them.”
That seemed interesting, and Zaos couldn’t help but wonder if it was due to the nature of their powers. Apparently, the demon god found a long way ago another source of power that made him look less like a human.
In any case, after thinking for a while, Zaos concluded that he needed to explain a few things to Milliendra about her powers. That was necessary to try to make her control it. Until now, Zaos avoided all types of magic training with her, but unless she does something to prevent that situation from happening, she will feel more depressed about it. Milliendra was an earnest child, so she would do her best to prevent that from happening again. When Milliendra woke up, Zaos called her.
“I won’t hide this from you, Millie,” Zaos said. “The truth is, your body has a certain condition that makes you able to drain mana from all things. That was why we always made you wear those gloves, they had mana in them and that prevented you from draining mana from others.”
“They looked scared because I drained their mana?” Milliendra asked.
“More or less… anyway, you can’t talk about this with anyone, okay?” Zaos asked. “Until now, we have been trying to solve that problem without you, but now we will count on you to solve it.”
“Can we cure this?” Milliendra asked.
“It is not a disease… it is just a special condition, but I am sure that if we work hard we can do it,” Zaos said. “Are you with me?”
Milliendra nodded with her eyes full of determination, and Zaos smiled and then patted her. That was his ultimate trump card. Use the demonic power against the power itself. Since it was inside Milliendra and someday it was supposed to be used to bring back the demon god, then it was only natural that Milliendra should have the ability to control it completely.
