The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

Chapter 414 - Strength

In the end, Zaos had to wait for one day to recover all his mana. Fortunately, he had a lot of time to level up his Poison Resistance. Nakin's group decided to stay behind since they felt that the cart was too weird. Only those three returned to help Zaos if something happened.

"All right… before we go, I just need to ask something," Zaos said. "The slavery spell can't have multiple masters, right? Once I killed that guy, the other heads of the organization can't give you orders, is that right?"

Nakin nodded. It would be really problematic if they suddenly received orders to attack him and they were behind, after all. Before anything, Zaos decided to check the path that would lead him to the surface. He had a feeling that he was at the core of the organization, so the mastermind was supposed to be in a place where everyone could contact them.

Zaos and those three climbed the stairs for a couple of minutes and then started to feel a light breeze coming from outside… It was night. Zaos could tell since the air wasn't suffocating hot anymore. Eventually, Zaos felt several presences and then clicked his tongue when he felt a magic presence that seemed very dirty and impure.

"Shit… all of you, return to the meeting room and kill anyone that might appear from those doors," Zaos said. "Don't hesitate and…"

Zaos frowned when he looked behind and saw Nakin and the others trembling from head to toe and sweating cold. They were supposed to be unable to feel fear, but… they were terrorized.

"Go back, now!" Zaos said.

"He is the leader… I felt his aura once," Nakin said before he turned around to retreat. "Be careful, he is a true monster."

Zaos nodded, and they watched them moving away. He already knew that without even Nakin telling it… that presence he just felt was the presence of one of the very closest servants of the demon god. To think that one of them would be the leader of that organization… was that a coincidence? Zaos couldn't understand it. It made sense, but at the same time, it didn't make sense. By training soldiers even before they could appear like the assassins, the demons would have a fearsome army that could take down the most troublesome targets like talented commands and soldiers on the battlefield that raise morale with their performance. However, it didn't make sense at the same time since it would be too much of a coincidence. Besides, why kill for money? And why only accept missions for money? If Zaos were in their position with that goal in mind, he would give the order to kill anyone slightly famous.

Zaos dashed through the stairs with all his might to catch the enemy with their guard low. He quickly found a door, but when he was about to open it, he felt a shiver, and then something massive hit the ground and made that part of the tunnel collapse. Zaos enhanced his sword with mana alone and cut into pieces the block of stones that almost smashed, but he still got hit by smaller stones. The attack had been so powerful that it made a good part of the structure tremble and collapse. Despite that, Zaos still found a hole in front of him, and then he also saw the dark sky of the night… something had destroyed a house or another outside, just to bury Zaos. Something powerful, and didn't even use mana…

Zaos jumped from the hole, only to find a massive hand moving toward his face. He moved his sword to block the attack. However, in the end, he was still sent flying backward several meters as he felt the bones in his right arm cracking. Somehow, Zaos still landed on his feet while he clenched his teeth to endure the pain.

Zaos opened his eyes widely when he saw the creature in front of him… that was just too much. How could a human transform so much just by being possessed by a demon? The organization's leader had become a ten meters tall creature that had orange light skin covered in scales. The creature seemed like a mountain of muscles, and aside from its shape, there wasn't a single sign of a human there. It seemed like a monster made of stone in a humanoid body.

Zaos thought all the humans taken by demons would be creatures that were specialized in magic. At least the legends made the demon god look like someone who was pretty good at it. The other demons Zaos faced were creatures with some powerful magic skills… but Darkaun wasn't like them.

Regardless, Zaos had been looking for numerous ways to increase his health, but he didn't find many, and yet, that demon had doubled his health… that was insane. Zaos was someone who survived being stabbed almost in the heart more than once, and he even survived being hit by a lightning bolt… if he could do that with his health, what the demon could do with his?

"I am surprised… to think that a human would be able to block my attack," Darkaun said. "Still, considering that you have that sword, it should only be natural."

Zaos got up and healed his wounds. He was lucky that those stupid demons got surprised with every little thing. If he had continued the attack, Zaos would probably have had a hard time fighting it. Thanks to that, Zaos had the chance to clear his head and then notice that despite having high health, the monster had low mana, and thus his resistance against magic was low. Zaos enhanced his sword with wind magic and then created the Thunder Blade, but the demon didn't care about that. Despite its size, he dashed toward Zaos with an inhuman speed. Using that chance to chop off the demon's head, Zaos swung his sword horizontally, but the demon blocked the attack with both arms.

"Ouch, it stings," Darkaun said.
