The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman

Chapter 407 - Help

"When did you hear of that ruin?" Zaos asked.

"When I was being trained, I heard one of the instructors mentioning it once," Aleni replied. "I don't remember what they were used for at the time, but it seems they use them nowadays to contact some clients."

That was a useful piece of information… other ruins for Zaos to study. Regardless, with that piece of information, they could set up a trap to get one of the heads of the organization, or at least an assassin that might lead them to their main hideout. Zaos assumed that things would be simpler than that, given that they worked for money. Still, until now, he didn't hear about any strangely wealthy individual.

"This time, I will deal with the situation alone, since you are prone to get angry if I am the one staying behind and protecting Millie," Zaos said.

Aleni wanted to protest it, but given that she might fight other assassins, perhaps it would be better if she stayed behind. Besides, Zaos' head works in weird ways, and he might end up bringing Milliendra to another battlefield.

"Daddy, why are you closing my ears?" Milliendra asked.

"Sorry, go hug mommy as much as possible and don't let her go until she keeps smiling for three hours," Zaos said.

While Milliendra was doing that, Zaos recharged her gloves in the blink of an eye. Recently, he has become quite good at controlling his mana, but on the other hand, the time in which the gloves worked was decreasing. He had so many things to do and so little time… by his calculations, these gloves won't last even one hour once Milliendra becomes ten years old. Once that happens, he would need to have one heck of a mana pool and a high value in focus, or he will have to find a way to gain a stable supply of magic stones.

Once Milliendra made Aleni's sour mood go away, she told Zaos what he had to do to find the ruins she mentioned. Before killing those three, Aleni also interrogated them and learned that they only appeared in certain ruins on specific days… the Intel that they had still was insufficient to ambush anyone. Still, it seemed that not even the triplets knew how to properly contact that organization. They only heard rumors. However, Aleni confirmed them since she felt that those three were being watched by someone else.

"You noticed that, but the other party didn't notice you?" Zaos frowned.

"That is right, I learned a few tricks as well in the last three years," Aleni replied. "I know how they usually track their targets, so I just had to deal with that."

Zaos was curious how she managed to do that, but obviously, Aleni wouldn't reveal all their trump cards. Besides, it wasn't like he could actually mimic her.

"So, when is the next time we can find those guys in those ruins?" Zaos asked.

"You can find them three days before the next new moon," Aleni replied.

"We don't have time for that…" Zaos said and then sighed. "I guess I will tomorrow and then try to find any traces left by their mana. However, to be able to do that properly, I need to have an idea of what kind of trace they leave when they walk or fight."

"That should be easy for you then," Aleni said. "We all know some basic healing spells."

"You do?" Zaos frowned.

It was true that Aleni had a little more mana than those who never fought in their lives. Still, why would assassins need to learn how to heal wounds? After thinking for a while, Zaos realized that even the best assassins would get hurt sometime and not be able to heal themselves would cause their deaths, and the organization would suffer a lot from it.

"Tomorrow I will leave after I talk with Kat," Zaos said. "She will help us on using the best methods to find decent mercenaries. I shouldn't take too long to finish the targets."

"Well, aren't you confident?" Aleni shrugged. "You should raise your guard, though. Our instructors are also the best… fighters. They probably know enough to defend themselves if all of their subordinates try to rebel even with the slavery spell."

"I am not really worried about that," Zaos said. "After I defeat them, what do you want to do? Do you want to deal with them by yourself, or should I deal with everyone I find?"

"… I want my revenge… but it will be better if I just forget about them. Just knowing that they are no longer here will be fine for me," Aleni replied after hesitating. "I am sure this will be the best for me and Millie… but as for others who are just bound by the slavery spell, if you had the chance, spare the lives of as many as possible."

"All right… we will need as many allies as possible, after all," Zaos said.

Zaos couldn't imagine all the assassins joining their side, but at least having a few of them to keep Aleni Company would be fine. People who live rough lives will probably heal faster if they stay together with people that understand their suffering.
