The Greatest Sinner

Chapter 312 - Salvation

When Crystal Eagle exploded, he killed himself, but he also wounded Evan badly. His postmortem blast was powerful enough to destroy a small rock and leave a deep crater in the ground.

Evan tried to defend himself, but his skin burned, and he suffered many serious wounds. Moreover, his bloody wings were partially destroyed, and from the force of the blast, he flew like a projectile into the ground. He thought this would be his end, but when he was less than a hundred meters from the ground, Reykar emerged from his Nirvana.

The raven was not big enough for Evan to fly it as a riding beast, but Reykar could slow Evan's fall. He spread his wings, and Evan fell on them as if on a tension net.

In a way, it helped because Evan fell to the ground and stayed alive, though he had a few broken bones, as did Reykar's two wings.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck, I was supposed to be looking at beautiful rainbows from afar, but I ended up getting shot at by some crazy bird. Bitch, that hurts." Evan said grudgingly.

He quickly pulled out two potions from his ring, one of which he tossed to Reykar. Evan had only a few such potions, which could cure fractures in a couple of minutes. After all, both he and Reykar were at the - Two-Pointed Star stage. It was harder to mend their bones than it was to restore a rookie mage's arm.

"Bottom line, I'm in this fairy forest now. It's certainly beautiful here, but I don't want my grave buried under these rainbows. We need to get out of here now." Evan muttered and looked at the map.

Evan didn't know what point in the forest he was in. It was very difficult to figure out. After all, there was nothing but glass trees shining brightly in the sunlight. If a vampire had been here, he would have been blinded by such bright light, and his eyes would have been burned out.

Next to him, Evan saw no caves, no glades, no lakes or rocks of any kind. Only shining trees surrounded him. But Evan could see the other side of this forest.

"Reykar!" Evan said loudly, and the purple raven flew upward, but not enough to be seen by the monsters here.

Evan used Raven's Gaze, looked at the Glass Forest from above, and compared what he saw to the image on the map.

"Damn, it looks like we're in the middle of nowhere. The fastest way out of the Glass Forest is to the west, but there's one problem..."

Evan could run at full speed and get out of the Glass Forest in about half an hour if he took the shortest route, but he would only solve one problem that way.

He needed to get back to his tower somehow, but it was very far away. It took Evan more than ten hours to get to Devil's Horn from Rave Castle.

<If I walked, it would take me at least a couple of weeks before I could get home. What's more, it's not certain that I'll be able to survive at all. Besides the Glass Forest, I'd have to go into more dangerous places. Walking back on foot is not an option. I need to find a riding beast here.> Evan pondered and signaled Reykar to go back.

Evan remembered Rave's words about how to tame the beast, <If I fight the beast in a fair fight and show it my intentions and defeat it, it will obey me. That shouldn't be a problem, but I need to find someone suitable and reliable. Moreover, he must not attack me first>.

Roooooooar!

Suddenly Evan heard the roar of a beast coming from the east side of the Glass Forest. Evan didn't know what was going on there, but he decided to go and scout out the situation. But, before he did, he decided to draw the Demon's Sigil on his hand. This forest was dangerous, and he had to be ready for anything.

Evan ran towards the sound and, a minute later, reached the scene. He saw an amazing scene, several bug-like monsters with rainbow chitin attacking a serpent with thick crystal armor.

<Hmm, the Glass Forest also affects the monsters and beasts that inhabit it. Those beetles and the snake, and that eagle all have crystal armor.> Evan thought.

The bugs attacked the kite, but their opponent was not easy. Even though the snake was outnumbered, it had no problem fighting off the monsters. Moreover, in front of Evan, the snake opened its mouth wide and swallowed three bugs at once. Its muscles began to contract, and there was a loud cracking and popping sound.

Evan thought that that would be the end of it, and the bugs would run away in fear, or the snake would eat them too. But, suddenly, he heard a loud buzzing of insects. Evan turned toward the sound and saw hundreds of iridescent dots flying toward him.

<Do they have a whole swarm here?!> Exclaimed Evan to himself.

He wanted to get out of here as quickly as possible, but suddenly dozens of bugs attacked him as well. The Rainbow Bugs was going to kill the snake and Evan.

Evan didn't expect something like this, but he knew he had no choice but to fight. He armed himself with Magma Blood, and the blade of the weapon was instantly covered in a layer of darkness.

Bam. Bam. Bam.

He fought off several bugs at once, but he kept missing blows. The beetles' chitin was very strong and thick. Even considering Magma Blood was a 5-star weapon, Evan took several hits to kill one bug.

Evan had only recently entered the stage - Two-Pointed Star and had yet to learn any level 2 spells. So, it was incredible that he could kill defensive type monsters so easily, but that didn't make the situation any better.

In a few seconds, Evan had already received many small wounds. At that moment, he thought, <Damn, if this keeps up, I might as well die. I prepared Sigil too weak a demon. I need to use the strength of someone stronger.. But, these bugs don't give me a second's respite.>
