Chapter 2: Past Lives
Chapter 2
However, this did not affect her at all. She was not the original owner to begin with, so she naturally did not have any feelings towards the original owner's father. It would be good to move out of the Ling family. She was the honorable queen of Feng Country, could it be that she would starve to death on this low level plane?
In her previous life, she was the queen with power over the royal court. The reason she died was because she fell in love with a man.
That man was a spy sent by the Neighboring Country. He had been lying low by her side for many years, helping her resolve worries and getting her out of dangerous situations time and time again. She knew his true identity and had intended to kill him before, but in the end she could not do it. So she decided to give him a chance, as well as give herself a chance, gambling on whether he would abandon his national enmity for her. But in the end, he still chose his country and completed his mission.
Thinking of him, a complex emotion flashed across Ling Yue's eyes. He was the only man she had ever loved, as well as the man who had hurt her the most. She loved him, pitied him, and also hated him.
She knew he loved her too, because in the last moment of her life, she saw two lines of blood tears roll down his eyes. He raised the dagger in his hand and stabbed viciously into his own heart. He crawled to her side with difficulty, reached out his blood covered hand and gripped her hand tightly, staring gently into her face, "Yue'er... I'm sorry... it's my fault... If there is an afterlife... I hope we will no longer be enemies..."
Her heart ached sharply, and Ling Yue forcefully suppressed the emotions in her heart. If they were to meet again in this life, she hoped they would be strangers.
"Did you hear what I just said?" Seeing that Ling Yue ignored him, Ling Tianzheng's expression became even colder.
Ling Yue looked up at Ling Tianzheng, just about to speak, when the ward door was pushed open again. Granny Xu walked in with a nurse. Seeing Ling Tianzheng, Granny Xu was startled for a moment and respectfully called out, "Master!"
Ling Tianzheng nodded with a dark face, then turned and walked out of the ward. "Granny Xu, come out with me for a moment."
Granny Xu looked at Ling Yue, then hurried to catch up with Ling Tianzheng.
Ling Tianzheng stopped at the door and looked at Granny Xu. "Granny Xu, I suppose you've heard about the Zhou family matter?"
Seeing Granny Xu nod, he continued, "I've already told her earlier that after she recovers from her injuries, she will move to the old house in the suburbs. Are you going to follow her, or stay with the Ling family?" After this incident, the Ling family certainly could not tolerate Ling Yue anymore.
Granny Xu looked at Ling Tianzheng in disbelief. "Master, Little Miss is your daughter. You can't treat her like this."
Ling Tianzheng let out a cold laugh. "The Ling family never raises useless people." Having said that, he ignored Granny Xu and walked away.
"Master! You can't treat Little Miss like this. If Madam knew, she would be heartbroken. Master!" Granny Xu hurried after Ling Tianzheng, but he only left a cold back view for Granny Xu.
Granny Xu knew Ling Tianzheng would not change his mind. She stopped and slowly walked back towards the ward. She stood at the door for a while before pushing it open and entering the ward.
Meeting Ling Yue's bright phoenix eyes, Granny Xu was reminded of Ling Yue's mother. She had promised Little Miss back then that she would take good care of Little Miss for the rest of her life. So she had already decided that wherever Little Miss went, she would follow. She had some savings left which could support their living expenses after settling down. She believed that she and Little Miss would have no issues with their daily expenditure.
Walking to the bedside, she picked up a cup of water from the bedside table. She dipped a cotton swab into it and applied it to Ling Yue's chapped lips. "Little Miss, don't think about anything for now. Focus on recovering from your injuries, and everything will be fine once you've healed."
"Alright." Ling Yue nodded. These small injuries could not trouble her. She could absorb the stellar power at night to cultivate, and she would recover completely in less than half a month.
Seeing Ling Yue close her eyes, Granny Xu was full of heartache. Little Miss was such a kind person, so why did Master treat her this way?
She let out a long sigh, her gaze falling on the gauze on Ling Yue's face. She had asked the doctor about Little Miss's condition earlier. The doctor said the burnt area on Little Miss's face was very large. If she wanted to recover, she would need skin grafting surgery. Now that the Ling family had abandoned Little Miss, they certainly would not give her money for the surgery.
When Ling Yue woke up again, the sky outside was already pitch black. She glanced at Granny Xu who was sleeping with her head down by the bedside, and the corners of her lips curled up slightly. She activated her cultivation technique to start absorbing the stellar power.
As her cultivation technique circulated, strands of stellar power entered her body, slowly alleviating the pain from her injuries.
After a hour, Ling Yue exited her cultivation state. The plane she was in was different from her original plane, so the stellar power here was scarce. After cultivating for just an hour, she could no longer absorb any stellar power. It seemed she had to find other ways to cultivate.
"Little Miss, you're awake? Are you thirsty? Let me pour you some water." Granny Xu woke up to see Ling Yue looking lost in thought with open eyes. She hurriedly got up and walked over to pour hot water from the thermos into a cup of cold boiled water. After testing the temperature, she put in a straw and brought it to Ling Yue's mouth. "Little Miss, drink some water to moisten your throat."
Ling Yue was quite thirsty, so she drank a few mouthfuls through the straw. "Granny Xu... I'm fine now... It's late, you should rest... Don't worry about me..." Having absorbed some stellar power earlier, she had regained some strength. The pain from her injuries had also alleviated somewhat.
"I'm alright, I'm not tired. Little Miss, I'll go out to see if I can buy porridge." Thinking that Ling Yue had not eaten anything the whole day, Granny Xu's eyes reddened.
"I'm not hungry... we'll talk about it tomorrow... I'm tired..." Ling Yue said as she closed her eyes. She had to think about how to live in this world from now on. She certainly would not interact with the Ling family anymore. As for the house in the Ling family suburb, she would not live there either. Since she intended to sever ties with the Ling family, she would not have anything more to do with them. Moreover, the original owner had never spent any of the Ling family's money from young. She had been using what her mother left behind.
The next morning, warm sunshine filtered in through the windows. Outside, the birds in the trees chirped noisily, and their crisp calls lifted one's mood.
"Little Miss, I'm going to buy porridge for you. I'll be right back." Granny Xu only left after the nurse had helped set up the IV drip for Ling Yue. She had seen several snack shops across the street from the hospital yesterday. It would take no more than ten minutes for her to buy the porridge. She had checked with the nurse earlier that this IV bag would need to be administered for at least an hour.
Not long after Granny Xu left, the ward door was pushed open. A doctor walked in and put a bill on the bedside table. "Miss Ling, this is your bill for yesterday. You currently owe our hospital 1,500 yuan in medical fees. Please settle the payment as soon as possible, otherwise we'll have to ask you to leave."
