Chapter 38: Praise Yourself
Chapter 38: Praise Yourself
Luo ZhouZhou got into the passenger seat, and right away the sports car drove out of the downtown area and turned onto the highway. It was his first time in a sports car, so he couldnt help but examine here and there, touching everything with wonder, asking, "Why don't you usually drive this car?"
"Like the car?" Chu looked ahead with slightly narrowed eyes.
Luo ZhouZhou thought for a moment and said, "I like it, but I prefer the one that was taken away."
"Why?"
He was too embarrassed to say that because he had tagged the car with a vampire, the spot belonged to him in his heart, so he didn't answer, biting his lip and looking outside.
Chu Feng smiled and didn't ask any more questions.
Half an hour later, the car crossed the cable bridge over the Phil River and arrived in Pingan Town, on the edge of Aleisha.
This area was wide open with many factories built here, so there were many workers renting in this town. Most of the workers were from Bayard, and their only recreation after work was to find a place to have a drink, and low-end bars were everywhere in this town.
The Black Fire Bar, where Lin WenCai worked, was one of them.
"Wait for me in the car, I'll ask a few questions and come out." After stopping the car in front of the Black Fire Bar, Chu Feng got out, walked around the front of the car, took a few steps, and then turned around and knocked on the passenger window.
After Luo ZhouZhou pushed down the window, he instructed, "No matter what happens, don't get out of the car and chase anyone like last time."
"Okay, I understand," Luo ZhouZhou promised. Seeing that Chu Feng was about to open his mouth, he added, "28%, I remember, will not leave the car."
Then raised the window on his side of the car.
Only then did Chu Feng turn around and start walking.
Luo ZhouZhou looked out the window sideways, his gaze following Chu Feng as he entered the bar.
Through the half-open door, he could be seen leaning against the bar with a glass of wine in front of him, talking to someone inside the bar.
It was a handsome young waiter. Chu Feng smiled at him, and his face instantly turned red.
Luo ZhouZhou instantly got upset.
Weren't you going to ask a few questions? Why are you drinking and smiling like that at people?
He was tempted to go in and listen to what they were talking about, but remembered that Chu Feng had asked him not to follow, so he stayed in his seat and stared at them unblinkingly.
A few moments later, the waiter came out of the bar, and Chu Feng put down his drink and followed him.
When Luo ZhouZhou couldn't see them, he started to feel anxious, so he pressed his face against the window, and tried to stare further into the bar.
What are they doing? Chu Feng didn't explain, and didn't even turn his head to look his way.
He unbuckled his seat belt and tried to get out of the car, but when he opened the door, he remembered Chu Feng's words and slowly withdrew his hand.
Luo ZhouZhou fidgeted, scratching at the leather seat underneath him, thinking to himself: I'll count to a thousand, and if he doesn't come out by the time I get to a thousand, I'll go in and look for them.
One, two, three, four, he thought.
Forget it. Count to eight hundred.
No, no, no. Five hundred will do.
Eight, nine, eleven, thirteen
As a result, after skipping numbers and counting to two hundred, the bar door was pushed open and Chu Feng came out.
Luo ZhouZhou was so relieved that he stopped counting and looked at him with bated breath.
Chu Feng turned in the direction of the car and gestured to him to come over, so he quickly grabbed his backpack and got out of the car, running towards him.
When he got there, he realized that Chu Feng was followed by a chubby middle-aged man.
"This is Lin WenCai's landlord, hell take us to his apartment." Chu Feng explained to Luo ZhouZhou.
"Okay." After taking two steps, Luo ZhouZhou asked in a deliberately careless tone, "Where is the waiter? Isnt he going to follow?"
Chu Feng was about to answer casually when he saw Luo ZhouZhou looking at him with wide eyes, his grip on the strap of his backpack a little tight. He was clearly very concerned about this question.
Oh, that waiter Chu Feng's eyes trailed off, looking into the distance, a reminiscing smile surfacing on his face.
Luo ZhouZhous expression sank and he stopped in his tracks.
"I gave him a small tip, and he told me all the information about all the customers and colleagues. He told me more than to the investigating officers." Chu Feng instantly restrained all his expressions and seriously said, "I'm going to find his boss to file a complaint against him later."
Luo ZhouZhou then immediately walked next to him and put his hand in his palm.
Chu Feng naturally took his hand and led him forward.
Ping'an Town was in a heavy industrial area, and the streets were largely devoid of Omegas, filled with mostly Betas or Alphas. It was the weekend, and they were gathered around a pool table on the street, chewing gum and sizing up Luo ZhouZhou.
When Luo ZhouZhou looked at them, they laughed and whistled.
Chu Feng paused in his tracks and looked at the pool table with a cold gaze.
The group of people felt the pressure of a top Alpha, so they hurriedly withdrew their eyes and stood up straight, not even daring to make a sound. The landlord was a bit chubby, so he couldn't stop panting after a few steps, but he told everything about Lin WenCai to Chu Feng in detail on the way, being very attentive.
"Lin WenCai didn't talk much and didn't deal with people, and he looked very gloomy. Every time I collected rent, he would just open the door a crack and hand out the money. If he had any friends and acquaintances, I've never seen them before." The landlord wiped the sweat from his forehead.
After crossing two alleys, he stopped in front of a two-story house and said, "Here we are, this is it."
The ground floor of the building was a small supermarket, while the second floor was a rental house, with stairs built into the wall outside. The landlord went up the stairs, with Luo ZhouZhou and Chu Feng following him.
On the second floor, there was an empty corridor, with four rooms on each side, all with locked doors.
"Only Lin WenCai worked in the bar, and the other tenants all work in the same factory. The factory has been on vacation for a few days, and they're all back in Bayard," The landlord explained to Chu Feng.
Stopping in front of the innermost room on the corridor, the landlord continued, "This is Lin WenCai's room, if you want to take anything with you, just pack it up. But he didn't seem to have anything, just a fish tank and two turtles. The police also came to investigate the apartment, but found nothing, so they checked and left."
Chu Feng thanked the landlord, took out a banknote from his wallet and handed it to him.
The landlord smiled so hard that his eyes couldnt be seen, and said, "Help you, help me without delay, how very polite of you." That said, he quickly took the money and put it in his pants pocket, then helped Chu Feng open the door, adding, "You're busy, I won't bother you."
Closing the door, Luo ZhouZhou and Chu Feng stood in the middle of the room, surveying the small apartment. Like all rentals in the area, it was a single room with no bathroom or kitchen. It was poorly furnished, with only a single bed, a closet, and a small table. The closet door had come loose, connected by only one hinge, hanging precariously.
The most eye-catching feature in the apartment was probably the square fish tank on the small table. The fish tank was quite large, occupying the entire table, and there were two tiny turtles crawling inside.
Luo ZhouZhou walked up and looked at the turtles through the glass, while Chu Feng was checking around.
"Hello, you two." Luo ZhouZhou poked the wall of the fish tank with his finger.
The two turtles didn't move.
He looked around, picked up their food from the top of the tank, threw a few pieces in, and the turtles finally crawled over slowly.
Chu Feng opened the closet, which only had two or three pieces of clothing and the barman's uniform. The sheets and cushions on the bed were tossed around and piled in a messy heap. He stood on the edge of the bed and removed the overhead divider to feel inside, but there was nothing.
The police had searched carefully, so when Chu Feng checked all the corners he could find one more time, not missing a single window crack, but he still found nothing.
"Let's go, Zhou Zhou," He called Luo ZhouZhou, who was crouching down looking at the turtles.
"Finished looking?"
"Finished looking."
"Did you find anything?"
Chu Feng patted the little dust on his jacket, shook his head, and said, "I didn't find anything."
"Won't you look for a while longer? To make sure you didnt miss anything?" Luo ZhouZhou concentrated on the turtles without raising his head.
Chu Feng did not make a sound, staring at him with a blank expression.
Without waiting for an answer, Luo ZhouZhou finally raised his head and blinked his eyes to meet his.
After a few moments, they went downstairs.
Chu Feng walked in front, while Luo ZhouZhou, holding a shoebox with the turtles in his hand, carefully followed behind him. 1
When they reached the street, they realized that the car was still parked in front of the Black Fire Bar, some distance away.
"Wait for me here, I'll bring the car around." Chu Feng looked around and told him to go across the street and stay under the eaves.
Luo ZhouZhou nodded and walked over with the shoebox in his hand.
When Chu Feng left, he began to talk to the turtles in a low voice.
"Your previous owner is dead, so follow me from now on. I can't think of any nice names, so I'll call you Big and Little Crow, okay?"
The two turtles ignored him and lay still in the shoebox, dreaming their dreams.
Luo ZhouZhou carefully closed the lid of the shoebox and held it in his arms.
At that moment, a tall man came out of the mini-mart across the street. He was wearing a gray T-shirt and a black baseball cap, its brim pressed very low. His chin was blocked by the vertical collar, and with the wide sunglasses his face couldnt be seen at all. As he looked left and right, he unwrapped the cigarette in his hand, lit it and held it in his mouth.
After standing in front of the supermarket for ten seconds or so, he suddenly walked towards the stairs on the outside wall and ran up the stairs. Luo ZhouZhou watched the man's figure disappear in the second floor hallway, and his heart was filled with doubts.
Didn't the landlord say that all the tenants on the second floor had left, so what was this man doing up there?
Chu Feng had not yet arrived, so he wanted to go up and check it out, but remembered Chu Feng's advice and hesitated while standing still.
As the pedestrians came and went, two more people came to the supermarket entrance, standing still and chatting.
This was not the middle of nowhere, it was quite crowded. All he had to do was sneak a peek at what the man was doing and not approach him.
As Luo ZhouZhou thought it over, he put the turtle shoebox on the windowsill under the eaves, and walked toward the other side of the street. He went lightly and swiftly up to the second floor, hiding his body behind the wall, and peeked into the hallway.
The hallway was silent, no one could be seen, and there was no sound.
He entered the passageway and slowly crept forward. The rooms on the left and right were still padlocked, and no one had opened them. Luo Zhouzhou checked them one by one, and stopped near the last one.
Only to see that the front of Lin WenCai's apartment cast a bright light on the floor of the dark hallway. It was the light coming from inside through the half-open door.
Luo ZhouZhou's heartbeat suddenly accelerated.
He and Chu Feng had closed the door tightly when they went out, and now someone was in Lin WenCai's apartment.
There was a slight noise coming from inside, the sound of an iron-framed bed scraping the floor as it was moved. Luo ZhouZhou turned around slowly, ready to go downstairs quietly and wait for Chu Feng to come and arrest him.
After taking two steps forward, two rings suddenly sounded in the quiet hallway.
Beep beep.
The volume wasn't great, but in this quiet environment, it was incredibly clear and piercing.
It was the terminal on his hand.
Luo ZhouZhou froze in place, and the movement in the room abruptly stopped.
In the silence, the two of them were separated by a wall, both remaining motionless.
Beep, beep, beep, beep.
The terminal rang twice more. He was startled and was about to run, but there was a creaking sound of a window being pushed open, followed by the muffled sound of a heavy object hitting the floor.
The man had jumped out of the window.
Luo ZhouZhou rushed to the door and saw that the window was wide open and there was no one there. He turned around and ran out of the hallway, jumping down the stairs three steps at a time.
Next to the stairs was an alley, and the man should have run down the alley after jumping from the window.
Chu Feng still hadnt come yet, so he hesitated, but then chased after him deeper into the alley.
The alley was deep and winding, with low, dilapidated cottages on both sides. After only a few dozen meters, he saw the man's back. He didn't seem to be aware that someone was behind him, and he didn't seem to be panicking, his steps slowing down.
Luo ZhouZhou also slowed down his pace, keeping a distance from him and staying far behind.
After following him for a while, an old woman carrying a vegetable bowl came out of the house next to him.
Luo ZhouZhou turned to the side to make way for her, but when he turned back, he found that the bald man was no longer in front of him.
He had lost him.
Luo ZhouZhou hurriedly wanted to go after him.
As soon as he took a step, he remembered Chu Feng's serious face and the phrase "28%".
He slowed his pace and stood still. Time passed, but there was no movement in the alley, nor did the man who had disappeared in vain appear.
Luo ZhouZhou stood at a distance, vigilantly observing the dark pile of coal under the eaves of an abandoned small house in front of him. Finally, from behind the pile of coal, a man slowly stood up straight, revealing his upper body, and stared at him from a distance.
It was the man from earlier. His collar was hanging down from his chin because he was running, and he had a large, black mole at the corner of his mouth. The sunglasses blocked the view of his eyes, but Luo ZhouZhou still felt a bone-chilling coldness rising from the soles of his feet.
He didn't make a sound, and the man across from him didn't speak either. A few seconds later, the man suddenly darted out of the pile of coal and rushed toward him.
Luo ZhouZhou turned around quickly and ran away, hearing the sound of footsteps chasing not far behind him. The blood rushed to his head, and his temples throbbed. He ran like the wind with all his strength.
Drilling through the clothesline and over the stacked bamboo baskets, he had no time to look back, only running wildly in the direction of the alleyway entrance.
At that moment, someone else came running down the alleyway, accompanied by Chu Feng's anxious shout, "Zhou Zhou!
"Chu Feng! Someone is chasing me!" When Luo ZhouZhou saw the familiar figure, he ran even faster with a burst of energy that came out from nowhere. When he finally got close, he shot into Chu Feng's arms like a cannonball, knocking him back two steps before he could stabilize himself.
"Behind me, someone chasing me"Luo ZhouZhou panted and turned around to point at the person behind him, but there was no one. The alley was empty, and there was no sign of the man.
"I was just someone was chasing me" Luo ZhouZhou said breathlessly.
"Catch your breath and speak slowly." Chu Feng pulled out the gun at his waist and slowly moved forward.
Luo ZhouZhou held the corner of his coat and hid behind him as he recounted, "Someone just went to Lin WenCai's room to rummage through something, so I followed him and peeked. But then my terminal went off, and he jumped out the window to escape, so I rushed to catch up to him.
He looked at the terminal, and it showed several text messages that Lin Fan had just sent, which must have been the reason for the initial ringing. Chu Feng searched a little further, only to find a baseball cap by the fence. There was a hole in the collapsed wall, with the road on the other side, so apparently the person had escaped through the gap.
When they got out of the alley, Luo ZhouZhou rushed to see his turtles.
The two of them were still there, lying in a shoebox, snoring, while the sapphire blue sports car was parked next to the shoebox. He turned around with the turtles in his hands, only to find that the car door was wide open, the engine was still running, and someone was peering inside.
Apparently, when Chu Feng found only the turtles here, and couldnt see the person who was supposed to be there, he directly rushed to find him.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at Chu Feng with a bit of a guilty conscience.
Chu Feng stepped forward, tapped the man on the shoulder, and waited until he left apologetically, before closing and locking the car door.
"Let's check Lin WenCai's apartment again. Since that man was rummaging around in that room, there must be something we haven't found."
Chu Feng no longer left Luo ZhouZhou alone in the car and took him with him up the stairs.
Luo ZhouZhou caught a glimpse of his face and said before he could speak, "I was wrong."
"Wrong Then tell me how were you wrong?" Chu Feng bluntly said.
"I shouldn't have just followed up by myself."
"I remember the last time I told you about the 28%, remember?"
"Remember."
"This time what you encountered was not just 28%, but 90%." Chu Feng stopped in his tracks and looked at him without expression.
Luo ZhouZhou hurriedly replied, "That's why I didn't follow him up, and I didn't go up after he hid."
"Well, you were smart to do so. Your vigilance has been raised." Chu Feng reluctantly complimented him.
Luo ZhouZhou looked at him with shining eyes.
"What's wrong? Don't look at me like that." Chu Feng asked.
Luo ZhouZhou couldn't wait for what he wanted, so he reached into his pocket and took it out.
Chu Feng didn't move, so he just stared at him, letting him fumble in his arms.
"I found it. I knew you must have it with you. Luo ZhouZhou took out his hand and there were two candies lying in his palm.
"This one is a reward for my vigilance." He happily peeled one and stuffed it into his mouth.
He put another in his pocket and said, "This one is for my two legs, which are really fast.
