Chapter 18: Autopsy
Chapter 18: Autopsy
When Luo ZhouZhou regained consciousness, he noticed that the car was parked on the side of the road and there was a narrow alley next to the street.
Chu Feng opened the car door, "Get out."
He jumped out and followed Chu Feng into the alley. The alleyway was winding and deep, crowded with old, low-rise houses, obviously occupied by poor people.
Chu Feng, wearing a valuable beige trench coat, was out of place in this decrepit neighborhood. But he didn't notice anything wrong with it and walked with the characteristic military poise. Although it was past supper time, the scent of food filled the entire alleyway as those who had been running to make a living had just returned home.
Luo ZhouZhou smelled the scent, gulped, and asked, "What are we doing here?"
When Chu Feng heard the swallowing, he looked at him with a smile and said, "I'll bring you to dinner."
The cobblestone slabs were uneven, with rainwater puddling in the low-lying areas, making it very difficult to walk.
Luo ZhouZhou lived in such a place in his original world, so Chu Feng stopped several times to see if he was keeping up, but found him jumping nimbly over the bricks in the puddles, unhindered by the roadblocks.
Chu Feng stopped in front of a loft with an open door and walked in.
Luo ZhouZhou hurried to follow.
Although it was not large and there was no signboard, it was clearly a restaurant. Three square tables and stools were set up, and they were clean and polished.
Chu Feng sat down at the nearest table and gestured to Luo ZhouZhou, "Have a seat."
Luo ZhouZhou sat down across from him.
At the sound of the voice, a middle-aged man in his early forties came out of the back kitchen and smiled when he saw Chu Feng, "What would you like to eat today?"
Chu Feng also smiled and said, "The usual." Then he pointed to Luo ZhouZhou across the table and said, "Make a bowl for the kid, too."
"Alright," the man replied loudly and went back into the kitchen.
As Luo ZhouZhou looked around curiously, Chu Feng asked, "First time eating at a place like this?"
Luo ZhouZhou shook his head.
There was a restaurant across the street from the loft where he used to live. It wasn't good, but it was convenient and cheap, so he was a regular there.
Chu Feng, however, did not take this answer seriously and only smiled.
Soon, the middle-aged owner reappeared with an extra plate in his hand.
He put two bowls of noodles on the plate in front of each of them, took out two pairs of clean chopsticks, placing them on top of each other.
"Let's eat," Chu Feng said smilingly to Luo ZhouZhou.
It was a large bowl of plain tomato and egg noodles, with a few green onions on top. Green and red, the noodles were so glistening and crystal-clear that it made people salivate.
"Thank you." Luo ZhouZhou wasnt polite either, so he took the chopsticks, picking up a few noodles and feeding them into his mouth.
The taste was so good that he thought he had never tasted such delicious tomato noodles before, so he stopped looking up and ate one bite after another.
The owner didn't go back into the kitchen, but sat down on a stool at the next table and talked to Chu Feng incessantly.
Luo ZhouZhou heard Chu Feng ask him, "Uncle Liu, how is Auntie Liu these days?
The boss sighed and said, "As usual, we are just dragging it out. Fortunately theres Wang Su taking care of her."
Chu Feng didn't say anything, but Luo ZhouZhou took a peek and saw him staring sideways at the door with a startled look that he had never seen before.
A moment later, he said, "It's really hard for you."
Uncle Liu said, "You are very kind, I am Wang Su and Wang Jun's uncle. Wang Jun is gone, and theres only the little girl, Wang Su, left. Taking care of my sister was supposed to be my responsibility, but instead, youre the one helping with her medicine"
They asked and answered questions, and it was obvious that they had known each other for a long time.
While Luo ZhouZhou listened attentively, they fell silent and stopped talking.
In the silence, all that could be heard was Chu Feng playing with his silver lighter again, making the sound of clashing metal.
"I'll get you an ashtray." Uncle Liu got up.
Chu Feng said, "I quit long ago."
Luo ZhouZhou shoved the last few noodles into his mouth and took the bowl again to drink the noodle soup clean. When he put the bowl down, he noticed that both Chu Feng and Uncle Liu were looking at him.
Uncle Liu smiled and asked, "Do you want more? I will give you another bowl."
Luo ZhouZhou swiftly shook his head, "No, I'm full already."
He used the paper towel on the table to wipe his mouth, and when he saw that the bowl in front of Chu Feng was still full and had obviously not been touched, so he asked, "You didn't eat?"
Chu Feng put the lighter away and said, "I've already eaten." He got up and said to Uncle Liu, "I'll go see Auntie Liu in a few days."
When Luo ZhouZhou saw him leaving, he also got up and followed him.
When he got out of the alley and got into the car, Chu Feng asked him, "Do you want a ride back to Aleisha now?"
"Hm?" Luo ZhouZhou was surprised and said, "Did we come to Bayard just to eat noodles?"
"What else?" Chu Feng retorted, "Wasn't that taste worth the trip?"
Luo ZhouZhou recalled, smacked his lips and said, "It was worth it."
"Thats more like it." Chu Feng said.
Seeing him start the car, Luo ZhouZhou was a little discouraged and said sullenly, "I'm not going back to Aleisha"
"So where else do you want to go?" Chu Feng glanced at him.
Luo ZhouZhou wanted to say he was going to the police station, but he was a little afraid to speak, so he looked at him blankly.
When Chu Feng saw this look on his face, he cautiously said, "Don't expect me to take you home. I told you, I don't take minors."
Luo ZhouZhou said seriously, "I told you, I am already an adult."
Chu Feng shook his finger at him and said, "That's not good enough either."
Luo ZhouZhou sat and sulked, then suddenly reacted and said, "I didn't say anything about going to your house either."
"Oh didn't say anything about going to my house." Chu Feng gave a look of relief.
When Luo ZhouZhou saw the familiar banter in his eyes, he knew he had been played again.
"You you" He gritted his teeth, trying to find a suitable adjective.
"Werewolf." Chu Feng pulled off the road, adding briskly for him.
Luo ZhouZhou saw his face full of pleasure and instantly felt that the word werewolf was no longer offensive.
That word became obsolete.
The vehicle drove out of the narrow street and turned onto a wider road. As the buildings on both sides became more and more familiar, Luo ZhouZhou realized that he was not going to a checkpoint, but to the Bayard Police Station.
He turned his head in surprise and looked at Chu Feng, both eyes shining.
Chu Feng smiled and said, "Happy now?"
"Happy."
Chu Feng restrained his smile again, "As a recent thief from the police department, your passion for the department makes me proud of the officers."
Luo ZhouZhou withdrew his smile, turned away with a straight face, and decided not to speak again.
"Let me ask you a question," Chu Feng said again, "It's business."
Luo ZhouZhou suspected that he was still playing with him, and remained motionless, looking out of the car window.
"Last time you said that the bruises on the victims were caused after death, and after we used the equipment to test them, it was true, as you said, that those bruises were caused within five minutes after death." Chu Feng's tone was serious this time.
Luo ZhouZhou finally turned his head and said, "That's for sure."
Chu Feng probed, "Then can you tell me how you know that?"
Luo ZhouZhou looked at him strangely and said, "I explained it to you very clearly last time."
The glance contained surprise and pity, just short of writing on his face, Why are you so stupid?
"Okay, it was the chief and Alinor who taught you that." Chu Feng shut up and asked no more questions.
After entering the police station gate, Luo ZhouZhou waited for Chu Feng this time and after parking the car, they walked down the hall together.
Chen SiHan can't be in another meeting, not every time, he exclaimed internally.
If Chu Feng hadn't brought me to Bayard today, I would have forgotten that there was a Chen SiHan, he thought to himself. He condemned himself internally for his attitude getting less and less enthusiastic, after finding his mate.
That had to change.
"General Chu, Sheriff Chen is in a meeting."
When Luo ZhouZhou heard this from the police officer who greeted him, he felt little disappointment.
Chen SiHan wasn't going to grow wings and fly anyway, so he wasn't in a hurry.
"The remains of several victims will be collected by their relatives tomorrow morning." The police officer, knowing that Chu Feng had been investigating the case, said tactfully.
Chu Feng frowned and said, "I know." He took Luo ZhouZhou to the sheriff's office, pushed open the door, and said, "You're just going to play here for a while."
Luo ZhouZhou saw that he was leaving and asked, "Are you going to see the dead men?"
An imperceptible light crossed Chu Feng's eyes, "What? Interested in seeing them together?"
Luo ZhouZhou, "Yes."
Chu Feng simply said, "Let's go."
Luo ZhouZhou wasn't really interested in the bodies at all, but he didn't want to be alone in the sheriff's office.
Led by a police officer, he and Chu Feng went down to the minus level and down the long corridor to the morgue. He stood behind Chu Feng and watched as the police officer unlocked the morgue door with a key.
The heavy metal door creaked and pushed open, and a wave of coldness greeted them.
