Chapter 127: All About Xia-Zhou Dynasty (2)
Chen Shu was reluctant to let Ye Sui suffer any injustice, so he did not allow others to bully her.
The ‘Are There Really Ghosts in the World?’ variety show that Ye Sui participated in would be suspended for a while.
However, the resident guests like Song Bai, Jingang, and Zhao Hui were the first that called Ye Sui. They all supported her.
After all, a star’s affairs were beyond their control. Whether Ye Sui was married or not, it was her private affair, and they could understand her.
Director Sun and Curator Xia had negotiated beforehand. The show crew had only come to Xia Zhou Palace to shoot for once. If the response was good, they would continue to discuss the shooting.
However, Curator Xia changed his mind now. His original intention was to let more people know the culture of the Xia Zhou dynasty, but he did not want to be involved in disputes of the entertainment industry.
Therefore, when Director Sun proposed to shoot here again, President Xia refused.
When Curator Xia refused Director Sun, though, strange things began to happen.
First of all, it started from some side halls. Some night staff members heard the sound of footsteps in the middle of the night, while some even heard whispers in the corner.
After a few days of these strange phenomena, the East Palace began to have anomalies too.
As long as there were staff members passing through the place, there would be a sound of someone reading. The sound was clear, passing through the quiet air and reaching straight to the listener’s ears.
Hence, strange things one after another, which had never happened before.
Curator Xia did not believe in heresy, so he told the staff not to talk nonsense. He himself stayed there at night.
At night, everyone was sleeping, and it was strangely quiet all around. Curator Xia walked out of the office with a flashlight.
Curator Xia brought two security guards along with him and went straight to the East Palace.
Coincidentally, when President Xia had just left the office, it started raining. Although it was only drizzling, the ground became wet after a while.
It was already chilly at night, but because of the rain, the temperature dropped even lower.
They had no choice but to return to the office to take an umbrella. The pitter-patter of the rain fell on the umbrella, making a small sound.
The two security guards couldn’t help feeling panicked. “President, it’s raining now. Let’s come on another day.”
Yesterday’s weather forecast didn’t say it would rain tonight. How could it have rained just like that?
Curator Xia didn’t agree with them. “What could happen? Today means today.”
The security guards had no choice but to bite the bullet and follow Curator Xia. Because of the rain, the light from the flashlight was dimmer. The curtain of rain lowered the visibility.
Curator Xia walked in the front, and the two security guards followed behind him closely. There was no conversation all the way. Nobody spoke a single sentence. Just like that, they approached the East Palace quietly.
“We’re here.” When Curator Xia saw the East Palace was not far away, he was about to go straight in.
They did not bring their umbrellas inside for fear of wetting the floor of the palace. They left them against the door at the entrance.
They also wiped the water on their clothes outside the palace before entering.
With a creak, the door was pushed open. The moment it opened, the night wind passed through the hall, and an intense chill rushed toward them.
The drizzle outside continued, bringing out a bit of cool and dampness with it. Although there was no rain inside, it still felt wet.
The light of the flashlight flickered and fell on every corner of the palace. The hall was empty. There was no one, much less a voice like in the rumors.
Curator Xia almost finished strolling around the East Palace. Everything was safe and sound. As nothing happened, the security guards gradually settled down.
Curator Xia thought that it was only the sound of wind and rain that caused everyone’s illusion before. It made them think that it was the work of the ghost.
They were just about to leave when the sound of sizhu was heard in the open palace behind them. It drifted into their ears.
(T/N: Sizhu is a traditional Chinese musical instrument)
The sound caused Curator Xia and the others to look back immediately, but it stopped abruptly and scattered in the air, as if the sound just now was their imagination.
The group was frightened, and their backs broke out in a cold sweat. One of the security guards stuttered to president Xia, “We’d better go back.”
