Chapter 52: There’s a New Case.
Chapter 52
"Thank you, Sister Tang Xingyou," said Jian Xi as she took back her ID card and put it away.
Tang Xingyou laughed, "You're welcome! From now on we are colleagues, I'm finally not the only woman here anymore. You have no idea how boring it is being with a bunch of men every day."
Jian Xi giggled with Tang Xingyou.
After finishing the onboarding, Jian Xi and He Qingchen got up to take their leave, but at that moment Chief Song's phone rang. It was a call from the Criminal Investigation Team.
There was a new case!
Chief Song looked very unhappy. "Little Tang, call them and tell everyone not to sleep! We have work to do!"
Jian Xi exchanged a glance with He Qingchen, her eyes shining eagerly.
He Qingchen helplessly patted her head and urged, "Be careful, safety first. Call me when you're done and I'll come pick you up."
Jian Xi quickly nodded, "Okay, okay. Brother, you can go back first, drive slowly."
After He Qingchen left, she asked Chief Song what the case was about.
Chief Song Jian'an said they received a report from the public at noon. A corpse was discovered in a park. The victim was a man who died bizarrely. His whole body didn't have any wounds at all, but there was not a single drop of blood left inside. The autopsy revealed that while his other organs were intact, his heart was missing!
It was as if his heart and blood had vanished into thin air!
"With current technological capabilities, this is impossible to achieve. So Zhang Team Leader from the Criminal Investigation Team felt something was wrong and called me, asking us to take a look too."
Chief Song frowned as he recounted the case.
"There were no surveillance cameras in the park?" Jian Xi asked doubtfully.
Chief Song nodded. "That's why Zhang Team wanted us to come over. The surveillance footage shows the victim walking normally, but suddenly he stopped in his tracks with a horrified look on his face, staring ahead. In just about one second, he collapsed. No one else appeared on the camera until someone discovered him and called the police."
When he finished, Tang Xingyou sitting to the side meekly raised her hand. "My intuition tells me this wasn't done by a person, and that the ghost is scarier than the hundred-year-old fierce ghost from last time! I'll call them now to get to the scene as soon as possible."
"Alright, call them and take Jian Xi with you to check it out too," said Chief Song.
As Tang Xingyou walked away while taking out her phone to notify people one by one, Jian Xi quietly followed behind her. This was her first case. Although it sounded quite frightening, it was probably just an evil ghost of about five hundred years at most.
Because many evil ghosts kill living people and eat their hearts to cultivate themselves!
When facing these kinds of ghosts, Jian Xi would normally directly destroy them. But now she was a civil servant who had to handle things by the book!
Sitting in the car waiting for Tang Xingyou to finish her last call, Jian Xi finally spoke up, "Sister Tang Xingyou, for those five hundred year old evil ghosts who kill to cultivate, how do you guys usually handle them?"
"Huh? Those kinds of ghosts and fierce ghosts, we try our best to capture them and bring them back to the bureau for Chief Song to open the ghost gate and send them to the Underworld. For older ones like you said, five hundred years or so, we can only seek help from the Chairman of the Metaphysics Association or the gods of the Underworld, because even Chief Song probably can't last very long!"
Jian Xi continued asking, "So directly destroying them would be against regulations?" She wanted to know if she could directly destroy them to save trouble.
The traffic light turned red and the car stopped. Tang Xingyou burst out laughing. "Little Seven, you're thinking too naively. Even Chief Song, a level six metaphysics master, can't easily destroy ghosts and fierce ghosts, unless it's the Chairman of the Metaphysics Association. He still can."
Jian Xi's eyes lit up. "So that means directly destroying them is allowed!"
Evil ghosts were different from fierce ghosts. Fierce ghosts may still have grievances that need resolving, so she would only act after confirming things clearly. But evil ghosts were purely bad. They cultivated themselves by feeding on people's hearts or blood. Although it was also a kind of ghost cultivation, it was wicked!
Seeing how she kept insisting on whether destruction was allowed or not, Tang Xingyou didn't want to discourage her and directly told her, "There are no rules saying direct destruction is not allowed. All evil spirits can be directly destroyed."
Jian Xi was satisfied. Not bad, this job didn't seem too restricting. "Got it!"
Understand? Understand what?
Although puzzled, Tang Xingyou didn't say anything more.
The incident happened quite far from the city center, so the drive took a long time before the two women finally arrived at the park when the sun had already set in the west.
After parking the car, Jian Xi and Tang Xingyou got out and walked in.
The corpse had been moved away, but the scene was still cordoned off with police tape while many criminal investigators searched around for other evidence that could be collected.
As soon as they approached, a young policeman stopped them. Tang Xingyou was used to it already. She took out her ID and handed it to him directly.
The young policeman looked at Tang Xingyou, then Jian Xi.
"She's a consultant for our Special Security Bureau," Tang Xingyou explained.
Jian Xi gave the young policeman a smile. He instantly blushed!
The young policeman returned the ID to Tang Xingyou and watched as the two women went in, murmuring to himself that the consultant from the Special Security Bureau was so beautiful, she just looked too young. She seemed even younger than himself!
Arriving at the crime scene, Jian Xi looked at the body outline marked on the ground and glanced around, sniffing.
Bingo! It really was an evil ghost of about five hundred years as she had guessed, and the kind that didn't even let go of the victim's soul.
She frowned in disgust, a cold glint flashing through her eyes.
Lin Xi Wen and Nie Xiujin had arrived earlier before the two women, as the location was closer to where they lived.
Tang Xingyou brought Jian Xi over and called out, "Boss! Deputy Team Leader! I've brought Little Seven with me!"
Hearing that, Nie Xiujin and Lin Xi Wen looked over. Jian Xi walked up and politely introduced herself to them.
She had seen Lin Xi Wen before so they naturally knew each other already. But this was her first time meeting Nie Xiujin. What she didn't expect was that his righteous aura was even stronger than Chief Song's!
"Nice to meet you, Miss Jian. I'm very happy to have you join us," Nie Xiujin said, holding out his hand.
Jian Xi lightly shook it. "Just call me Jian Xi. I'm also very glad to join you guys."
