Chapter 30 I Don’t Believe in Destiny
Chapter 30 I Don’t Believe in Destiny
Hua Long’s face darkened instantly when he saw it was indeed Wang Feng and Bei Yunxue.
He suffered a loss of over twenty million the last time those two bought gemstones from him. His father had given him an earful because of that. Heck, his father nearly removed his title.
After that, he hired people to kill Wang Feng. But that had landed him on the bad side of the fearsome He Tian, someone whom he did not even want to run into let alone cross.
Wang Feng’s vision was truly sharp. After Wang Feng bought the gemstones last time, Hua Long brought an expert over to verify a few things.
What he learned from the expert proved staggering. According to the expert, not even 10 percent of the remaining gemstones were capable of producing jadeites.
In other words, at least half the gemstones that Wang Feng purchased last time contained jadeites.
There were at least a few thousand gemstones here, 30 percent of which would yield jadeites. But when Wang Feng walked away with a hundred million’s worth of gemstones, that number diminished sharply.
It was normal to have a gemstone that failed to produce any jadeite when cut. But if more than half of the gemstones here were incapable of yielding jadeites, how was he even supposed to sustain his business?
Gemstone buyers were not idiots. They were not easy to fool.
“You know, brother, you need to give other people some breathing room. You shouldn’t take things too far,” Hua Long said coldly as he approached Wang Feng and Bei Yunxue.
Wang Feng stood utterly unfazed by Hua Long’s words. “Could it be that you’re turning away business even though your door is open?” Wang Feng asked a little strangely.
“Business needs to go on, of course. But I don’t want to do any business with you.” Hua Long let out a cold laugh before his eyes glided away. His smoldering gaze fell upon Bei Yunxue, and his eyes flashed with greed.
Of course, Wang Feng noticed the look in Hua Long’s eyes clearly. Deep down, he could not help but sneer.
This guy obviously planned to hit on Bei Yunxue. Wang Feng would not let him do as he pleased.
Wang Feng stepped forward and shielded Bei Yunxue with his own body. Then, he deliberately raised his voice. “Young Master Hua, your door is open, and yet you’re turning away potential business with me. What’s the meaning of this?”
Wang Feng’s voice bomed very loud, so much so that it reached the ears of everyone present.
Just then, those who heard him headed towards Wang Feng. “What’s going on?” someone asked.
“Young Master Hua said he refused to do business with us today. He’s planning to chase us out.” Looks of anger formed on everyone’s faces at Wang Feng’s words.
The middle-aged man who conversed with Wang Feng just now instantly became furious. “What kind of nonsense is this? How can something like this even happen?
“You have your door wide open, and yet you’re chasing your customers out? If we sue you and take this to court, you’ll have to face the legal consequences no matter what you do. You most definitely can’t pay your way out of this,” said the middle-aged man. Several people there muttered a few sounds of agreement.
After all, anybody would feel bad if chased out for no reason at all.
Hua Long laughed when he heard the middle-aged man. Hua Long did not seem to mind at all. “Haha. You guys are mistaken. I’m just refusing to do business with him alone. This grudge is between me and him. It has nothing to do with the rest of you.”
“That won’t do as well. Since we’re here, we’re all your customers. If you insist on chasing us out, then I guess we’ll be seeing each other in court.”
After that, the middle-aged man took out an identification card from inside his pocket. “I’m a lawyer,” he said. “And I will personally make an appearance in court to give my statement as a witness. Whatever you say right now can be used as evidence in court.”
“You...”
The sight of the middle-aged man lawyer’s license enraged Hua Long so much even the complexion of his face alternated between red and paleness. “F*ck,” he thought. “Can’t believe I run into a lawyer here. What shit luck I have.”
Hua Long knew it was impossible for him to chase Wang Feng out. So he gritted his teeth and said, “Very well, then. Go ahead and have fun. I wish you all will be able to cut into jadeites today.” After that, he left dejectedly, taking his men with him.
Before he left, he shot Wang Feng a cold look. The look in his eyes was as if he wanted to strangle Wang Feng to death.
Wang Feng, on the other hand, made himself immune to such a gaze. Picking out gemstones was the only reason he came. He might not ever set foot here again after today.
“Brother, I’ve already chased the guy away. Hurry up if you want to buy stones. I’m afraid that guy might suddenly change his mind,” said the middle-aged man as he approached Wang Feng.
“Thanks a lot,” Wang Feng said to the middle-aged man.
But when he finished speaking, Wang Feng reached out and picked up a gemstone beside him. “Uncle,” he said, “consider this my gift to you.”
“A gift for me?” The middle-aged man was shocked by Wang Feng’s proposal. Following that, a look of glee formed on his face.
This gemstone was worth three hundred thousand. He could not believe Wang Feng would give it to him just like that. Then again, it also meant his words just now were worth three hundred thousand.
Of course, if the middle-aged man was aware of the fact that the gemstone he held contained a piece of jadeite worth nearly one million, his expression would have been much more interesting.
“Sister Xue, lets minimize our contact with Hua Long in the future. The guy is a scumbag, and I fear he might try to do you harm,” Wang Feng said, which brought Bei Yunxue out of her reverie.
“I know,” Bei Yunxue answered. She lowered her head, but did not say anything else.
Seeing Bei Yunxue looking a bit dejected, Wang Feng hurriedly asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m fine,” Bei Yunxue said, shaking her head. She turned around and headed to the rest area.
Wang Feng stared after her leaving form. Wang Feng suspected something must be bothering her. But then if a woman had something on her mind, he thought there was no way he would be able to figure it out anyway, so gave up trying and went back to the task of picking out gemstones.
This time, they splurged the two hundred million they amassed on the purchase of gemstones.
But in the end, when Wang Feng took into account the value of all the jadeites they obtained from the investment, he discovered that jadeites had a total worth of no more than 150 million. In a way, the funds had been sufficient.
After this outright pillage, the Zone A of Hua Lian Jewelry Shop’s literally became a ghost town.
Over 90% of the remaining gemstones were trash. Even if some of them possessed the potential to yield jadeites, buying them would only incur losses, so Wang Feng would not touch them.
After taking care of the payment, Wang Feng brought Bei Yunxue with him and left Hua Lian Jewelry Shop.
After their departure, Young Master Hua told his henchman beside him, “Go check it out. Find out how many gemstones Wang Feng bought this time.”
“Yes, sir,” the henchman assented. After about five minutes, the henchman returned.
“How many stones did they buy?”
The henchman, who was a bit terrified at this point, answered, “They bought around 150 stones. All of them worth up to 150 million.”
“150 million!”
When he heard the amount, Hua Long failed to feel a single iota of excitement. He smashed his fist against the wall instead.
He knew Wang Feng’s visit this time caused him to lose a big batch of jadeites. He literally bled on the inside.
Hua Long dialed a number, which answered quickly. Hua Long spoke into the phone with a dark tone. “Father, Wang Feng came by again today. He bought a bunch of gemstones worth 150 million in total. I’m planning to swap out the stones he purchased.”
“Are you f*ck*ng out of your mind?” Hua Wu’s angry voice blared out from the phone. Hua Long was so startled that he nearly dropped his phone.
“Will you think before you act for once? Is that kind of loss worth our reputation in the jewelry business? Do not touch the stones. Send them over exactly as they are. I will find a way to deal with this Wang Feng later. You don’t have to worry about him,” said Hua Wu. Hearing Hua Wu’s words, Hua Long calmed down slightly.
“By the way, how are things going with the lady from Bei Family?” At this point, Hua Wu’s voice calmed down too.
Hearing his father’s words, a fiery look formed in Hua Long’s eyes. Obviously, he fantasized about something lewd. “I’m already trying very hard,” he said. “Just give me a bit more time. I believe I can make her mine.”
“Good. You keep working on it. I have already negotiated with her family. Bei Enterprise is a big ship, one that we have to hop on board. This is our chance to make our comeback,” Hua Wu threw out the instructions and hung up. Near the end, his voice became a bit heavy and gloomy.
After the line went dead, the scowl on Hua Long’s face turned abnormally grotesque.
“One day I’ll make you pay heavily for this, Wang Feng!”
The sheer viciousness in Hua Long’s voice nearly had the few henchmen beside him wetting their pants.
Wang Feng noticed Bei Yunxue’s preoccupation, so he offered to drive. He did not take them home, but brought Bei Yunxue to the riverside instead.
“Sister Xue, shall we take a walk?” Wang Feng asked.
“Sure.”
The two of them strolled along the riverbank. Bei Yunxue said nothing the entire time, which worried Wang Feng greatly.
He had no idea why she acted like this. What he did know was that something terrible was about to happen in the future.
There were a few times that he came close to open his mouth to ask. But in the end, he held his tongue.
Suddenly, Bei Yunxue opened her mouth and broke the silence. “Wang Feng, do you believe in destiny?” She stared at Wang Feng grimly.
Wang Feng was really not used to her staring at him intensely like that. But seeing the grave look on Bei Yunxue’s face, Wang Feng found himself unable to smile.
“Destiny?” Wang Feng shot out. Back when he did not have the gift of X-ray vision, he might have believed in destiny. But to ask him to believe in destiny now? How was that even remotely possible?
“What is destiny? Why should I believe it?” Wang Feng said, staring at Bei Yunxue. “Destiny is something that people use to deceive others. It’ll be there if you believe it. But once you stop believing in it, it’ll no longer exist. You have to believe that one’s destiny can be changed.
“I don’t believe in destiny. But that isn’t all. I want to change it. I was born into a normal family. But look at me now. Haven’t I accomplished something?”
“Sister Xue, I don’t know about the stuff you’ve been through. But you have to believe me. Don’t ever believe in empty and vague notions. Destiny. Your life. All that can be changed. Appreciate everything in front of you, because those are real.”
Even Wang Feng felt a little proud of himself after throwing out those words. How surprising it was that to say something so philosophical. He never knew he had such talents.
The light returned to Bei Yunxue’s eyes after hearing Wang Feng’s words. After that, it was as if a weight lifted from her shoulders. The smile forming on her face right then was a long time coming.
