Chapter 36 - There’s Still Hope For Him
Augustus knew very well that this aura was nothing good.
He thought about how people usually said that children could sometimes see things adults could not, and instantly understood everything.
That thing could be seen in broad daylight and had attached itself to a child's body. Augustus felt that he needed to take care of it.
Thus, he excused himself to the bathroom and went ahead to approach the child.
Augustus saw the boy in a room on the second floor along with his parents. He pushed the door and went in without much thought.
"Do you need something?"
The boy's father asked suspiciously when he saw Augustus enter suddenly.
"Hello, my name is Augustus. I just wanted to inform you about something."
"What is it?"
Augustus told them about the black aura.
However, after listening to Augustus's story, the boy's parents only rolled their eyes speechlessly.
The boy's mother scolded Augustus sternly. "Ahh, you're a conman, aren't you? Do you know who my husband is? He's one of the most powerful figures in Halmont City's commerce industry, Evan Steele! You have a lot of guts to come and trick us!"
Augustus could not help but smile wryly. "I'm not a conman. I'm telling the truth."
Evan snorted coldly and said solemnly, "Young man, what did you learn in your youth that made you turn out this bad? I'm telling you, I don't believe what you're saying at all. You'd better leave now!"
"That's right. Our Adrian is perfectly healthy, but you said that he's sick? I think you're the one who's sick!"
After being treated like a liar and also called sick, Augustus no longer wanted to care about them. However, he still tried to persuade them. "I'm telling you the truth. Your son is fine for now, but when that thing adapts, it'll be a big problem once something happens!"
However, just as Augustus finished speaking, the boy's mother, Natalie Sheppard, was so angry that she threw a glass of water at Augustus.
"You're such a vicious liar. When we don't buy your words, you actually curse my kid instead! Do you think we're easy to bully?"
Evan's expression was also dark. "I'm warning you, you better get out of my sight. Otherwise, I'll make a phone call and have you sent to jail immediately!"
Then, Augustus was pushed out of the room, and the door slammed shut with a bam.
Looking at the locked door, Augustus felt helpless.
Right before the door closed, he happened to make eye contact with Adrian. The boy's eyes were cold and stiff, nothing like the eyes a six or seven-year-old child should have.
It was not a good sign!
However, he did what he could and advised them. If they did not want to believe him, then there was nothing else he could do.
Augustus helplessly returned to his seat and continued to eat with his family.
Forty minutes later, he went to the front desk to get the check.
At that moment, a scream was suddenly heard from the second floor.
"Adrian! What's wrong with you, Adrian?"
The voice was so loud that it immediately stirred up the crowd.
Augustus recognized the voice. It was the boy's mother, Natalie!
"Oh no, something happened!"
He rushed upstairs without a word.
When he arrived at the second-floor room, he saw Adrian lying on the ground, at his last breath. Besides Evan and Natalie, a group of people surrounded them while watching the scene.
At that moment, Natalie knelt beside Adrian and was at a loss.
"Who can save my son? Please! Someone, please help!"
Evan also broke into a cold sweat from anxiousness. "Gentlemen, I'm Evan Steele, one of the most famous figures in Halmont's commerce industry. I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who can save my son!"
Evan Steele?
The crowd was surprised to hear Evan's identity. He was a real big shot in Halmont City!
Before Augustus could squeeze to the front, a woman in a long red dress and high heels ran over.
The woman was charming, beautiful, and looked only thirty at most, but her body exuded the charm of a mature woman!
At first glance, everyone immediately recognized her as the lady boss of Halmont Banquet, Rowena Croft.
"Mr. Steele, I learned first aid before. I can do CPR on him!"
"Yes yes yes, please hurry!"
Evan urged her.
Rowena crouched down and was just about to press Adrian's chest, but Augustus noticed something and said immediately, "Wait! It's not a heart problem. You'll only harm him if you do that!"
Rowena was so scared that she stopped.
When Natalie saw that it was Augustus, she was immediately furious. "Stop talking nonsense! If anything happens to Adrian, I'll throw you into jail!"
Evan was also irked to see Augustus. "Ms. Croft, ignore him. Hurry up and save my son!"
Rowena stopped hesitating and quickly performed CPR on Adrian.
After a few pumps, Adrian woke up suddenly.
"He's awake! He's awake! Thank god!"
"Thank you, Ms. Croft!"
Evan and Natalie were overjoyed.
Natalie glared fiercely at Augustus. "Fortunately, we didn't listen to a liar like you. Otherwise…"
Before she could finish, the newly awoken Adrian suddenly screamed and picked up a chopstick from the table, and aimed at Rowena's heart.
"Watch out!"
Augustus threw himself at Rowena and managed to avoid a disaster.
When Adrian missed, he did not wait for the crowd to react and went straight into the room.
Augustus exclaimed, "Oh no. Stop him!"
Earlier, Augustus saw that Adrian's unconsciousness was not that simple. It had nothing to do with his heart. He had been influenced by that thing.
Initially, it was the best time for Augustus to strike while that thing was napping, but now that Rowena had woken it up, it was completely enraged and would fight until its last breath!
Before the crowd could react, Adrian jumped over the balcony window!
"Adrian!"
Natalie fainted.
The crowd rushed downstairs. Outside the hotel, they saw Adrian with his nose bleeding and lying motionlessly on the grass.
Rowena was the first to run over. She placed her slender fingers under his nose and instantly turned pale.
"He… he's not breathing…"
Evan's legs weakened and he fell to the ground.
Adrian was his only son. This was completely devastating to him!
The crowd also sighed, feeling that it was truly heartbreaking that the child died like that.
Natalie had woken up by that point, but when she heard that Adrian was no longer breathing, she almost fainted again.
"Adrian! My son! Ahhhh…"
Natalie cradled Adrian's corpse and wept bitterly.
At that moment, Augustus came forward. "Let me do it. There's still hope for him!"
The crowd was stunned at his words.
He must be joking. The child had stopped breathing. How could there be hope?
Was he going to bring back the dead?
Augustus's expression was heavy. From his consciousness, he finally figured out the present situation.
Next to Adrian's corpse, a white-haired old man was trying hard to drag an illusory shadow that looked identical to Adrian out of the corpse!
