Chapter 397 - Losing Her
Kurt took a few steps and paused when he heard a resonate sound of an object, a kind of metal object he presumed that rolled on the floor before the sound slowly came to a halt in successions. He swiftly turned around and glanced up in the direction he heard the sound. For a second, Kurt assumed the object has fallen on the ground due to wind. He turned around, ready to leave to Peacock Halo, but his legs refused to take a further step, not after a doubt imposed on his mind.
He opened the GPS tracker as one last thread, and to his dread, he found Kyle's location at a hairsbreadth. ''She is here! Is it Someone sending text messages from her mobile to distract me? So, was that sound the signal sent by Kyle?''
He already has an inkling of who the person could be. He rushed to the car and returned with a toolset box. Inserting the rake into the door lock, he twisted the tension wrench, but the lock didnot spring open. ''Damn it! It's bolted inside!'' He cursed as he scanned the house to search for a quick entry inside, and he found it. Putting the necessary tools into the pocket without wasting a second, he climbed the sturdy drain pipe. A thud escaped into the air as he landed on the second-floor balcony.
He could hear the distant voices of a man and whimpers of a familiar voice. ''You better not hurt her, bastard!'' Prying open the window pane from the bottom using the screwdriver, Kurt slid the glass off without making a noise and jumped into the pitch-black room.
...
Hands tied, mouth smothered with her scarf to suffocate her, Kyle whimpered as Landon slapped and raged on her face; the fingerprints impressed her cheek. ''Your hinting didnot work on your lover boy. He is heading to Peacock Halo in search of you. Ought you spill my company secrets? Save yourself today if you can.'' He roughly grasped Kyle's hair to drag her out of the room. Pain washed over Kyle in waves of numbness.
'Nobody will save me.' Kyle repeated in her mind. A while ago, when the doorbell rang, she knew it must be Kurt, and in desperation, she hinted at her presence by pushing the vase onto the ground. But it looks like fate has decided to end her life today. That was until the door was kicked open with a loud bang, and a shadow of a man entered into her blurred vision. Even if his face was hidden in the shadows, she still recognized him.
Fear swelled upon Landon's face as he swiveled around and realized the intruder's face. ''How did you..''
''How interesting that you underestimated my ability?''
''How interesting that you used a woman to get the secrets of my company?'' Landon countered, attempting to take a pocket knife from his back pocket. Before Landon composed his thoughts, a powerful kick landed on his abdomen, throwing him off to the ground.
''You have guts to lay a hand on her!''
''Ah!'' Landon clutched his stomach, moaning in pain, and before he ventured to get up, his knees buckled up.
Kurt walked towards Kyle and dropped to the ground, staring at the girl's eyes filled with tears. ''Don't panic. I am here.'' Kyle tried to speak but was utterly helpless with her mouth smothered. His heart tugged in pain, beholding her wretched state.
Seeing that Kurt has dropped the guards, Landon slowly got up and lunged at Kurt's broad back, which was turned to him. But at the last second, Kurt spun around, parried his attack. ''You never learn your lessons hard!'' He relaunched a kick on his stomach. Landon fell on the carpeted floor, lamenting in agony. Holding his collar, Kurt dragged him out of the room, not bothered by the man's screams.
He called the giant and ordered. ''I will text you an address. Come, and fetch the package.''
''A gift?'' The giant yawned. ''But I am ready to hit the bed. Why can't you give me in the office?''
''Get the fuck out of your bed, and come here.'' Kurt hung up and hurried back to Kyle's room.
''I am sorry, I am late.'' Gently Kurt loosened the scarf around her mouth and untied her wrists.
Kyle breathed in and out to collect herself. ''I..I was scared he would_''
''Shh..Don't talk. Breath in and out.'' Kurt hugged her close and comforted her. ''I am here. I will not let anything happen to you.''
He tenderly lifted Kyle's body and carried her to the bed. Laying her on the bed, he said. ''I will call the doctor_''
''No.'' She denied, shaking her head. ''Please stay with me.'' All she needed was Kurt by her side.
''I will.'' He smiled. ''But let me bring a gel to treat your wounds? Okay?''
Kyle nodded.
Upon returning with the medical kit, Kurt applied the gel to Kyle's wounds. ''Why do you stay in a single house, all alone?'' He softly asked, rubbing the gel on her bruised cheeks. Had she stayed in a flat, this never would have happened. Even if she allowed Landon to her house, she could alert the security with a single press of a button.
The coolness of the gel brought relief to her numbed senses. ''I prefer to stay alone. People talk behind me that I am a wrong seed who had trampled a happy family.'' She bit her lip, forcing the truth. Her father never cared for her, and her stepmother blamed her for shattering her family. ''Do you also think the same of me_''
''Never.'' Kurt put aside the gel and pulled her into his embrace. ''You are the sweetest girl I have ever seen.''
''It's because you rarely interact with girls.'' She laughed softly, feeling giddy at the sudden closeness. Knowing about Kurt's disease, Kyle hesitated to hug him, but she let her uncertainty aside this time. ''All I have seen you interacting with is either Leena or the girl with a lollipop. I wonder how on earth you know Lollipop girl in the first place.''
''She is a nightmare of my life.'' Kurt sighed. ''She approached me during Austin's wedding. Someone holding a grudge against me must have given my number to her. I am gonna kill that culprit one day.''
Rather than feeling jealous, Kyle laughed hard, imagining Kurt handling Lollipop advances. A while ago, Kyle thought her life would end today, but here he is smiling with the person she loves. ''Thank you for saving me, Kurt.''
''Not to mention you gave a hint at the right time,'' Had he gone without checking on Kyle, he can't imagine the rest. The thought of losing Kyle scared the wits out of him.
''So, are we friends now?'' Kyle broke his thoughts.
''Aren't we?'' He asked, disengaging from the hug.
''You declined.'' She muttered. ''Although I saved you from the bathroom incident, you never wished to see me.''
''I am sorry.'' He confessed. He can't help but admit he acted like a jerk. ''Can we become friends now? I will cook your favorite dish in return.''
Kyle nodded, flashing a smile.. Becoming friends with him is the first step. 'Soon, I will make you fall in love with me,'
