Chapter 271 - Breaking the rules
Chapter 271 - Breaking the rules
Not wanting to get caught, Lu Xingyan quickly faced her back to him. What was she thinking about? Why was she gaping at his body so openly earlier?
"Xiao Xing?" He blinked a few times in wonder.
"Oh… um… yes…" She tried her best to calm down before she turned back to him, a small smile plastered on her lips. She walked towards him and sat with a safe distance between him and the fireplace. She was intentionally not looking at him in fear that he might see how embarrassed she was.
Lu Xingyan never loses her composure whenever it came to men. She thought she was never going to be attracted and yet here she was, being all shy because of her childhood friend.
"It seems like there's a storm," Han Xukun started, looking at the window. 'If this goes on, I think the flight will be delayed. You will have to stay here for a while."
She clenched the blanket and stared at the fire. She bit her lower lip a bit. She wanted to go home and be with the rest of her family. Aside from that, she still has school work to do. She was a graduating student and she missed the exam week. It would be hard for her to finish up the school requirements especially when she was aiming for the top.
She suddenly felt a gentle pat on her head which made her turn to the man who moved close to her. He looked at her with a gentle gaze as if he knew what she was thinking about. He softly said, "everything will be alright. You have a dependable family and this storm is only temporary."
Han Xukun may seem like a cold man at first but he was actually kind and caring when gotten close to him. Lu Xingyan couldn't help but stare into his eyes and for some reason, she couldn't help but be captivated by them. Would it be fine if she tried to touch his face?
The man was surprised when Lu Xingyan leaned forward to him. He became as still as a rock when she reached out and held his cheek. "Xiao Xing?"
When she realized that she unconsciously touched his cheek, her eyes widened. She quickly pulled back her hand.
"I-I'm sorry!" She exclaimed. Her face was in its darkest shade of red. She must be going crazy for touching him just because she thought of wanting to do it. Han Xukun was driving her crazy!
A small chuckle was heard from him as he said, "it's okay." For some reason, he didn't find her annoying like others. In fact, he wanted to know her more, get closer to her so he held her hand and entwined their fingers. Just as he thought, he didn't hate it.
On the other hand, Lu Xingyan was surprised by what he suddenly did. She could feel the warmth from his hand spreading to her body which made her look at him. Once again, they began staring into each other's eyes.
Neither of them tried to look away. They were captured in each other's gazes. The serene ambiguous atmosphere around them didn't help at all. They were the only ones in the tiny cottage and both were attracted to each other.
The situation was getting dangerous and Han Xukun knew this that's why he released her hand and leaned back, putting a bit of distance between them.
To break the awkward silence between them, she decided to think of a question to ask. She was internally panicking. What should she do? What should she ask for this weird air to dissipate?
"Do you have a girlfriend?" She blurted out the first question that popped into her mind which startled him.
Upon coming into realization, she blushed deeply., "I-"
"I'm not really sure," he interrupted, answering her question. "I guess someone I can get along with?"
Somehow, she couldn't help but feel disappointed at what he said. The women who have opposite personalities that could be his type were her cousin, Lu Mengjie, and her sister, Lu Weichun.
Now that she thought of it, Han Xukun was pretty close with her cousin ever since they were young. If she remembered correctly, she was once his fiancé too. Could it be that… the person he actually likes was her?
She was not going to know the answer if she kept quiet that's why she asked, "someone like Mengmeng?"
"No."
That was a quick reply.
She looked at him in wonder. "You don't like her?"
"Mengmeng is just like a sister to me. Besides, she's too wild for me. I don't want to deal with her as a lover."
She couldn't help but inwardly sigh in relief. Good, good.
Good?
She paused when she realized how relieved she was. Oh no… she shouldn't be feeling this way! It was wrong! Very wrong! Why was she even asking this question in the first place? She can't just fall for him just because she had a dream of them as lovers. No way.
"How about you?" He returned the question to her.
"Someone opposite. My life is kind of boring. I think anyone would be bored of me in the long run," she sighed. "So I just thought of the saying 'opposite attracts'."
"That's not always the case." He looked at her and smiled a bit, "despite your beauty, I think you're pretty normal in terms of your personality. How about trying something outside your usual routine?"
"Like what?"
Han Xukun wasn't really the talkative type but he found it easy to talk with her.. "Base on how I understand your personality, you're the type of person who sticks by the rules, right? What about trying to do…" he paused just to look deeply into her eyes. "… something like breaking the rules you set around yourself?"
