Chapter 19 Haunted House
In the end, Xia Meiren couldn’t go against her son. Lu Yifeng noticed the uneasiness in her eyes as he bought the ticket for the haunted house. They were about to go in when he offered his hand to her. "Here, hold my hand."
Xia Meiren was tempted to hold his hand but she went against it, even if she was scared, she will not give him a chance to get a step closer to her. She slapped his hand away. "No thanks, I’m good."
Lu Yifeng watched her as she entered the Haunted house. He then looked at his hand before he lowered it. The big wall between them was something he cannot crush so easily, knowing this, his heart ached.
But despite that, he entered the Haunted house and found Xia Meiren walking so slowly as if she was waiting for himvand Little Melon to catch up.
Seeing this, he couldn’t help but smile. She was scared and yet she was acting so brave.
"Momma, wait for us." Little Melon said while he was holding Lu Yifeng’s hand.
Xia Meiren turned with a calm look on her face but the look on her eyes betrayed her. She waited for them before she started walking beside Lu Yifeng inside the dark house.
’Don’t be scared. They are not real. A mannequin will appear soon, you know this so don’t be afraid. They won’t touch you or harm you. They are not real.’ She keep on telling herself inside her mind.
But what she didn’t expect was this Haunted House was different. She suddenly felt something grab her ankle, she ended up holding Lu Yifeng’s arm as she gave a high pitch scream. "AHHHHH!!!"
Lu Yifeng and Little Melon was so surprised when they heard her scream. They turned to her as if wondering what was wrong when nothing appeared in front of them yet.
"M-my ankle... s-someone’s holding my ankle..." Xia Meiren’s voice was shaking. Her eyes were closed, she was so scared to even look on what was holding her ankle since she could feel the wet and hand figure of it. She couldn’t help but hug Lu Yifeng’s arm close to her.
Lu Yifeng and Little Melon looked down to see a bloody hand was holding Xia Meiren’s ankle. The staff who was disguised as a ghost used the small trap door in the corner of the wall to grab on Xia Meiren’s ankle. The fake blood was dripping on the ground.
Little Melon released Lu Yifeng’s hand before he walked towards Xia Meiren’s side.
Lu Yifeng watched his son step hard on the arm and jumped on it a few times that made the staff let out a loud "Ouch!" before he quickly retracted his poor arm and shut the small trap door.
Who could have thought that a little boy would do something so unexpected!
"No scaring my momma!" Little Melon huffs as he puts his hands on his waist and puffed his chest out. "Mello protects momma and dada from ghosts!"
Lu Yifeng smiled as he patted the little boy’s head. "That’s my boy."
Little Melon smiled proudly before he looked at his mother. "Momma, don’t be scared. Ghost is defeated by Little Melon."
Xia Meiren finally opened her eyes. When she realized that she was hugging Lu Yifeng’s arm, she quickly let go of it and turned to Little Melon. She cleared her throat and tried to act calm despite how her heart was beating fast. "Thank you, Xiao Gua, you’re mommy’s hero."
"Ehehehe~" He giggled cutely with his mother’s compliment.
Lu Yifeng’s eyes softened as he looked at the two, and above all, he couldn’t help but warm up upon seeing how Xia Meiren leaned on him for protection earlier.
"Lets go, we’re still at the start. We have to walk for a bit more before we can exit this place."
In other words, this was just the start of Xia Meiren’s horror. She felt a chill run down her spine as she thought of what will surprise her in the way. She really doesn’t like seeing the scary faces of the ghosts.
Little Melon held her hand. "Lets go momma."
Xia Meiren wanted to run her way out but now, with Little Melon holding her hand, she can only go on with his pace.
They continued walking and they entered a hall with creepy paintings on the wall. Xia Meiren felt her heart thumping loud as they continued walking... until another staff in a ghost attire suddenly jumped out of a painting.
Once again, Xia Meiren ended up screaming but this time, Little Melon joined her. She hugged Lu Yifeng’s body from the side while Little Melon hugged Lu Yifeng’s leg.
Little Melon started becoming teary since the disguise the staff wore looked scary this time. "Dada..."
The staff was supposed to chase them until they will enter the next hall where another ghost was supposed to appear but seeing Lu Yifeng’s cold and threatening gaze, the staff ended up going back inside the painting.
Lu Yifeng carried Little Melon using an arm while he used his other arm to place it on Xia Meiren’s shoulders, hugging her protectively. "Lets go."
This time, Xia Meiren didn’t pull away from him since she was too scared. This Haunted house was different from a normal one, since it was not the mannequins in disguise giving the jump scares, it was the staffs which made them look like they were real ghost!
Lu Yifeng walked with Xia Meiren burying her face on his chest.
The next scene was a room filled with so many creepy dolls hanging on the ceiling. They need to pass the room to get into the main hall. The staff who was about to come out of a trap door paused as he saw Lu Yifeng’s icy glare. His body shivered in fear and this made him close the trap door in an instant to hide from the devil himself.
The same thing happened with the other staffs, just one look on Lu Yifeng’s cold and sharp eyes made them hide in fear.
When they finally reached the exit, Lu Yifeng gently patted Xia Meiren’s head. "We’re out."
Hearing his words made her open her eyes and turn her head to see if they really were out. She heaved out a sigh of relief when she saw that they were not inside the Haunted house anymore.
