Chapter 198: [Bonus Chapter]Ambush
Damian acted normal as he strolled out of the beast woods and into the quiet village that was empty as he headed towards the other side of the village where he could find a carriage and the path back to the city centre.
It was clear that there was something wrong and from how quiet and empty the village streets were, it was clear that someone or multiple people with great power and influence had prepared a trap for him.
Kong had a tense expression, which made Damian nervous, knowing how sensitive and accurate its senses were, but he was by no means afraid.
"I would like a carriage to Aria City Centre," said Damian after reaching where all the carriages were parked.
Seeing Damian and hearing what he said, all the carriage drivers were instantly alerted and it was as if they recognised him and they had probably been given a description of him by someone.
"One moment please," said one of the carriage drivers while stuttering as he led Damian to his carriage.
Damian went into the back and sat down despite knowing that it was likely to be a trap and after a few minutes passed, he was starting to become annoyed.
"How much longer do I have to wait? This is clearly a trap, have you not alerted the one targeting me already. I have places to be so hurry up and drive before I get angry and kill you"
Damian had an angry expression on his face and he was confident in his ability to escape with his Shadow Form that he had practised, along with Kong's ability to escape with its speed.
If it wasn't for that, he wouldn't have dared to face an enemy with unknown power, but they were taking too long and the carriage driver was also a victim in that situation.
It was being forced to do as Damian's enemy was telling him to do, but at the same time, Damian was clearly capable of killing him and had threatened to do so.
'They are probably ready now and if I don't start the carriage now, I don't know what this crazy kid will do to me' thought the carriage driver to himself.
"Sorry for the wait. I will start the carriage now" said the carriage driver nervously as it urged the beast leading the carriage to start moving.
Damian could see that the carriage driver's hands were shaking while holding the reins of the carriage, which caused him to pity the carriage driver, but there was nothing he could do to help him.
The weak cannot fight against the strong and although Damian wanted to help and defend the weak within his reach, it was an impossible task when he thought about it and in his current situation, he was more worried about his own survival.
He made sure to keep his spiritual sense spread out and couldn't sense anything around him, but the carriage was moving suspiciously slow.
"Get in the back of the carriage" ordered Damian as he grabbed the collar of the driver and placed him behind him with ease.
Damian's physical strength was incredible after breaking through to the 5th rank and using the Golden Flame Tempering Method and he took the reins of the carriage as he suddenly urged the beast to speed up.
The sudden burst of speed was unexpected by those that were targeting Damian from the sides of the path, but they reacted quickly as they dashed in front of the carriage to stop it.
"I knew this would draw you guys out. But you underestimated me too much" said Damian as he fired an explosive arrow towards where those targeting him were attempting to intercept the carriage.
The beast leading the carriage was shocked by the sudden explosion a few metres before it while those targeting Damian were launched away by the sudden explosion.
Damian tightly held the reins and controlled the beast that was becoming wild after the explosion and was trying to break away from the carriage.
It was jumping up and down and was succeeding in breaking away from the carriage, so Damian had no choice but to jump directly onto the beast's back and ride it as it broke the link to the carriage.
However, as he rode the beast, Damian suddenly felt danger, as multiple attacks were launched towards him from all different directions, and all those attacking him were dressed in all black robes.
Damian had no choice but to forget about riding the wild beast that was being attacked from all directions as he tightly held onto his bag and bow while bursting off the beast's back.
The collision of all the attacks caused a large shockwave that flung Damian high into the air, but he regained balance and landed on the ground with Kong holding tightly onto his clothes.
"You won't be getting away. Daring to kill one of our friends and severely wounding another. Even though our group leader, Clay let you off, we am not as merciful" said the two ranged fighters that were in Clay's group.
Hearing that, Damian was pleasantly surprised that Clay wasn't involved in the attack and was even more impressed by him and his personality.
[They must have used money and influence to hire mercenaries to kill me. I can't take them all down at once and they all seem to have Soul Spirits along with cultivation levels that are above mine] gathered Damian as he held his bow in his left hand and prepared to fight.
There were so many things going through his mind at once and Damian couldn't decide what his next move should be.
It was an ambush that he saw coming, but had never thought would be at the scale that it was with many skilled mercenaries that surpassed his cultivation level.
Despite that, he was still confident and dying or sacrificing anything wasn't an option as Damian thought about his plan of action.
